How YouTube continues to spit in the face of small creators

- I've had this video in the back of my mind for a little while now and is something I feel necessary enough to share with all of you. I know a lot of you are much newer to this channel, so a lot of this stuff pertains to things an events that many of you are probably hearing about for the first time. The channel as well as myself in general have changed quite a bit in the last 7-8 years, but this has always been something that has never sat right with me all these years later. Sure, I will probably achieve monetization by the end of the year, but that doesn't make whats been going on right either. I would like to say I hope things change, but lets be real they won't.
Like I said at the beginning of the video, I do truly appreciate and cherish each and everyone of you for the constant support I have gotten here for the last year and a half. I've been very busy with just life stuff for a little bit, but I should have a more freed up schedule come the end of September. I think a lot of this is also coming up now because I do what to do bigger and grander videos over here, but I don't think I have all the resources available to me at this point to pursue them. Whatever the case maybe I'm sure we will all make it, just more or less wanted to vent about shit from almost a decade ago.

If you hate RUclips's censorship and their more corporate anti creator polices recently, consider following me on rumble where I do dual releases on videos for both platforms:

Quite often, a lot of these big business decisions have already been cooking in the background, and companies just wait for a convenient event to go through with them. I’m not familiar with what was happening on RUclips around the time of this Paul video, but it sounds like a complete overhaul to monetization would have been in the works already.
I’ve sometimes had ads run on my own videos as well, and I’m not a part of any partner program. It’s bewildering.
Anyway, good luck with the continued success of your channel. I see that you hit your 1k subs now, and I’ll join for your climb to 2000. 🥳
A lot of this goes back to the infamous suicide forest video from Logan Paul. Although I do agree there may have been some plans beforehand since we had just gone through the adpocalypse, however even looking back on it, it still seemed to be a very reactionary move by RUclips. And I get the bewilderment of having ads run on your channel while receiving no money from it, it's definitely discouraging at times. But thank you for the support and kind words, and I'm glad to have you alongside me on this journey!

I get where you are coming from and I’d be frustrated too. On the other hand, it is a private company not a public utility and they use ad revenue to expand and improve the platform (higher bandwidth, more storage, new services like live-streaming, etc) in addition to covering all the costs of doing business (server investment or service costs, web and app development, legal services, etc) while keeping the platform free to use. But in favor of your point- they seem to be adding other revenue sources like these new Twitch-style “channel support” options or their outrageously priced subscription options beyond their ad revenue. I wish RUclips didn’t dominate the video sharing and hosting market to the point of being an effective monopoly. Real competition would make profit sharing rates more favorable for content creators (they don’t have to share any profits, but it is mutually beneficial and keeps their platform dominant). YT/Google/Alphabet is so big that they can buy and shut down or absorb new competition. I’m hopeful that the long over due antitrust action might start to undo that damage, but I’m not holding my breath. And that is just the problems created by their total market dominance for content creators like you who want to pursue video production as a side hustle or primary income- not mention the fact that the shifting media landscape has caused many to expect RUclips (and other social media platforms) to be a platform for public discourse, journalism/news, and education and YT’s censorship policies and profit sharing terms of service have made their monopoly increasingly problematic. Some think US or EU regulation could solve that, but I doubt it will happen and it might make the problems worse. Maybe someday we will get another non-profit like Wikipedia or the Internet Archive social media- or a not-for-profit that runs ads or something so content creators could still make money, or a legitimate YT competitor could take off- but until then we are all stuck with their obnoxious TOS since they pay to make the service available and right now happen to profit like crazy, but that isn’t guaranteed to always be true. Thanks for this video even though it is not typical of what you upload- I’ve been thinking about making videos for a while and this one specifically has inspired me to just start doing it rather than just thinking about doing it because I’m subconsciously worrying too much about getting it right from the start and “making it big” rather than enjoying the act of making something and sharing it.
Ya it's definitely defeating and does have a lot of moving parts. I am hopeful that some competition or at least some more good will actors start to make headways soon, although I would argue that based on their section 230 protections that they are technically considered a public utility. Honestly it's stuff like this that makes me miss how things were pre-adpocalypse.
Also in terms of you wanting to make content, I struggled with the same issue for years, I always talked myself up into doing it but never amounted to anything. It wasn't until I put my foot down and said fuck it I'm doing this. As long as you enjoy doing it you'll do fine, not every video is gonna skyrocket, that takes some time (trust me I know 😂) but you will be able to look back and say hey I made that. Hopefully you end up getting that drive to finally start making things. And also thank you for your very rich comment, I enjoy seeing people having an intelligent discussion about the things I make!
