Personally l think it is time for a second 3D Donkey Kong game, but also think Nintendo should remake the original DKC games in one pack ! I just finished leaving a super long comment on your earlier video about why I think it does make sense to rerelease DKC Returns on the Switch even if a new game isn’t set to release soonish, but I didn’t sub to your channel until after I posted it so I didn’t see this follow up video. I’m new to the DKC fandom but am a Shenmue fan and OG Sonic fan so I relate with y’all and the franchise neglect or lack of quality new releases even though I’m a recent fan of the Country games and haven’t suffered through the dark ages like you. But I really hope we get a new DKC game soon and am optimistic a DK game is around the corner. I’d rather get another 2D platformer but I’d be excited for a 3D DK game too since I don’t think it would be a collectathon since 3D gaming has advanced a lot since DK64 and the time those were popular (but I’d also personally rather a 3D DK be more on the Mario Odyssey/Bowser’s Fury side of complexity rather than the Mario 3D World/Kirby and the Forgotten Land side). Anyway I loved hearing your thoughts on a new game and on 2D platformers in general. I look forward to catching up on your old videos eventually and would love to hear more about what you think makes the DKC games great 2D platformers and what separates them from the other good games in the genre that just aren’t quite on their level if you haven’t already made videos about that and are interested in talking about that.
Truthfully, I would prefer a new 2D game just because of how good the other ones are, but the thought of a new 3D Odyssey/Bowser's fury style game for Donkey Kong on the switch 2 (which rumors are saying will probably be support 4k graphics) could truly be some amazing. I am definitely thinking about doing videos revisiting the original trilogy, but I don't have anything on paper yet, hopefully that changes. I think it would be cool if Nintendo did something like the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy. A collection of remakes for the for the first three games with updated visuals, a 16:9 ratio, and an updated soundtrack. Not only could it be the definitive way to play those classic games and would introduce a modern audience to those older games. I think it would also be cool if there would be a modern mode for newcomers and a retro mode for veterans of the franchise, similar to the Retro DKC ports and the N Sane Trilogy.

With the release of Banjo Tooie, I am already happy when they release DK64. A new 3D DK would be unbelievable, but knowing Nintendo it is often not happening. Keep praying...
We've been in this kind of frustrating holding pattern for the past 10 years. Nintendo makes sure to have some kind of stop gap for Donkey Kong each year, but there's always some kind of caveat, like it's just a Mario spin-off that happens to feature DK, sometimes not even as a playable character. I get that there's overlap between Mario and DK fans, but these spin-offs might matter to Mario fans, they kind of feel like table scraps for DK fans. I think DK needs to come back in a big way, with a brand new 3D adventure, because anything resembling another 2D Country game is going to get swept under the rug so fast it will be like it never happened.
Ya, honestly as much as I do want to see another 2D game to ensure we don't get this situation again we might need a new huge 3D game. Although a new 2D will almost certainly be excellent, there is just so much more potential for greatness and overall impact with a new 3D game
I had this comment in his last video, but it is applicable here for explaining: A big problem with DK is that Nintendo has no idea what to do with it as it is a heavily western based IP. Rare were western developers, so when they got sold, you can tell Nintendo was at a loss as to where to take DK. They kept using him, but the cast was heavily trimmed and the games were mostly spin-offs. Retro saved/remade the IP, and did really well with it. However, Retro fell into some financial trouble in the late 2010s and clearly had their next project(s) shelved, whatever they were. Now they are strapped to Metroid again, of which, ironically had much the same issues as DK of being unable to find a studio to take it in for years. Apparently Activision/Vicarious Visions was in talks to create a 3D Donkey Kong game, but plans fell through. I don’t think Nintendo is deliberately sabotaging DK, but they themselves don’t know how to work with it, so a either a new studio or Retro has to take the helm. Metroid was similar in this regard, as prior to Retro and Mercury Steam, no one at Nintendo knew how to use the IP. My personal hope is Retro comes back after Prime 4 to complete the trilogy and with K. Rool finally returning.

I really think the 2 games people are most hyped to be announced in 2025 are the next Mario Kart and Odessey 2. I could see DK Odessey happening sometime later, maybe 2027/8?
