I remember when in 2001 I was studying Architecture in Paris. I had brought my alto with me and I was attending a few jam sessions in town. One night I was at this place in the Marais, Les Sept Lezars and I see this young kid, dressed like a skate boarder, that was playing like a champ, flying on his alto. I complimented him and told him he was the best musician in the room that night. His name was Baptiste, he was probably 16 and at 10.30p.m. he had to leave because he had school the day after. That night I kept my alto in the case, there was no way I was playing a note afte he played!!!!.I am glad he has kept up with music and cultivated his talent to become the incredible musician he is today.

For whatever it might be worth... I've had periods where I consistently played my guitar 5 or 6 hours a day and it doesn't take too long before you just instinctually play things that shock you; you can't believe what you just heard because 1) it sounds above what you "normally" sound like and 2) you just did it with little or no conscious thought. It just flows out of you. If you get into a groove ( no pun) of putting in enough time, this sort of thing happens fairly regularly.

I hate subtitles, but loved this interview. :) I am always impressed with cats who can keep a string of notes going forever. I can play a lot of rippin' notes, but my ideas fade pretty quickly, so it's more like bursts of notes. As for time of play, I used to play 16 hours a day when I was in the Air Force Band, but I probably wasn't practicing smart. At 75 I am down to only 1-1.5 hours, but have a goal to get back up to about 5 a day. For anyone who thinks they can do 30 minutes every other day and get better, I'd tell them to watch this interview every day until they get it. Practice Does Work. :)

Merci Jay, pas mal avec l'accent! Enfin Baptiste! Great job on the interview. BTW Swedish Blues used to be the standard name for the chord sequence used in Blues for Alice. The pianist Jimmy Bunn, who was the pianist on Bird's Loverman sessions wrote the original set of blues changes. He covers for Bird when he misses an intro! He dropped out of sight unfortunately after being sentenced for drug offences and formed a core part of the San Quentin jazz band for years.
