While not as good as the original, I personally think JPIII ranks closely with JPII. There are key sequences I enjoy and feel were done as well as the other films. While the Kirby's could be particularly annoying, it was nice to catch up with Dr. Grant once again.

As a dino fan,i was upset about a spino killing a t-rex even though that was a relativly small t-rex in comparison to the 2 t rexes in the Lost World, and rexy in the first film..although i thought it was a cool fight still,a real t-rex could have decapitated the spinosaurus head with its bit force and its railroad shaped teeth made for crushing bone

The 3rd movie is basically everything from the two novels they couldn’t fit I. The first 2 movies. The river chase, the aviary, etc
I think they did a good job of tying originally unrelated scenes into a coherent movie.

The raptors in this film look a little different than the originals because new theories about feathers on dinosaurs - particularly the raptor-type species - had become known to the public between the release of the first film in 1993 and this one in 2001. This theory would see full display in the Pixar film The Good Dinosaur (released in 2015) where their Utahraptors were completely covered in feathers much like modern birds.

Was only one years old when the first film came out. when the second film came out while I was watching the trailers I ate some strawberry Twizzlers and had a horrible allergic reaction and had to go to the hospital. needless to say that theater going experience was ruined. So Jurassic Park 3 holds a special place in my heart because I got to see it in the theater when I was a kid. And I didn't even almost die.

I enjoyed this movie a lot!
However, there was some problems behind the scenes, as the director, Joe Johnston, hated the original script, as the plot was going to involve teenagers getting stranded on the island following a plane crash. They encounter a strange hermit living in a treehouse, who turns out yo be none other than Alan Grant, having snuck onto the island to observe and study the dinosaurs in their natural habitat.
Johnston threw away the script, calling it "a bad episode of Friends."
The premise would be used for JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS.
Filming has begun without a finished script.
The scene with the T. Rex getting into a fight with the Spinosaurus had to involve CGI as the Spinosaurus animatronic tore the head off the Rex animatronic, which shocked everyone onset.
They rebuilt the Rex animatronic for closeup shots.

My ranking of the OG trilogy is 1, 2, 3
3 just has waaaay too many plot conveniences for me to take it seriously and the drop in quality of the CGI just was too distracting
Add to that the annoying ass characters, some of which their motivations make 0 sense "no force on heaven on earth can get me back on that island" > proceeds to accept based on a simple promise of money, super weak character motivation, the fact that Grant and Sadler didn't end up, the Spinosaurus adding absolutely nothing to the movie except of "I am just like the T-Rex, except bigger", it didn't do anything in particular that made it stand out except maybe the swimming at the end for those few seconds.
2 is heavily underrated imo. It's not as good as the first one but it still has so much pure fun. The characters are believable (Malcom refusing to go back to the island, only goes to save his girlfriend, and wants to get off the island constantly afterwards), the setpieces are personally for me a lot more fun (I really just don't care for pterodactyls) etc

It was originally planned for there to be a JP4 shortly after this film was released. I can remember seeing posters for both Jurassic Park III and teases for Jurassic Park IV when my family and I visited Universal Studios Florida in the spring of 2001. The mystery of why the Spinosaurus was created but not on the list of dinosaurs InGen produced and the Pteranodons flying off the island at the end were intended to lead into whatever the plot of the 4th film was supposed to be. Unfortunately, this film was not as popular as its predecessors (though I personally still enjoy it as a JP film), taking in roughly half at the box office as The Lost World Made (yet nearly $370 million is nothing to sneeze at either!) while costing nearly $25 million more, so the plans to make JP4 were delayed longer and longer until if finally fell into production hell and disappeared from public awareness.

My least favorite thing about this movie (apart from Amanda Kirby's constant shrieking) is that the Spinosaurus killed the Tyrannosaurus rex, MY #1 FAVORITE CARNIVOROUS DINOSAUR SPECIES
I do love how Charlie is watching the stage show "Barney's Musical Castle" as Ellie's talking to Alan on the satellite phone as he and the others are at the mercy of the Spinosaurus in the river. Yet another dinosaur I grew up with, let alone the literal first one I ever watched in my youth.
Also, I will say that I do love interjecting my own dialogue into this scene:
    Paul: That's a bad idea!!
    Amanda: What's a bad idea?!
    ( Spinosaurus roars LOUDLY )
    Me: That, you loud-mouthed dumbass

I prefer the first and second more myself, but there are things I like about this, The Spinosaurus is a cool new Therapod addition, but I also don't feel like it had to overthrow the T Rex , the whole situation seems very set up, instead of something that would occur naturally, because two large predators like those would have scrapped a bit over a kill. the real Spino ate fish though, but in this universe he doesn't so they would scrap but most likely not to the death. I do like the horror elements too, but feel like The Lost World built more tension, the cliff scene in the trailer, when they're going through the long grass and you see the trails from the raptors overhead and heading towards them, the shadow from the T rex on the side the tent. The couple I found annoying and just kind of didn't care about their romance side quest lol.

As far as the OG trilogy, I say JP just has too much nostalgia that the other two don't even come close. But JP III definitely is second then Lost World. Ranking the franchise overall:
    1. JP
    2. JW: Fallen Kingdom(if only for Toby Jones and Ted Levine)

If you haven't already watched it, I recommend JW's Camp Cretaceous series (which, despite being more for kids, feels much more like a proper continuation of JP than the JW movies). Also, if you wanna learn about real dinos, I highly recommend Darren Naish's "Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved" (the best adult intro to the whole story of dinos) & "Dinopedia: A Brief Compendium of Dinosaur Lore" (the best adult guide to dinos & their cultural impact since the 1970s).

Definitely underrated film. I am in the minority in thinking that this is better than Lost World. It was short, fun and exciting. Yes, I could have done without the whole divorce problems subplot but this one just entertained me more than Lost World when it comes down to it. Another thing people make fun of is the "talking raptor" scene but it's played as a dream sequence and Grant's been thinking about how raptors talk to each other so it makes sense in that context. We certainly didn't need it, but it's not the big deal that people make it out to be. This may not be the greatest Jurassic Park movie, but it's certainly better than the three most recent entries.

  • @chrislaustin
    @chrislaustin 7 месяцев назад +1

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but this was my favorite of the original 3 films. Don't get me wrong, Spielberg did an amazing job on the first film and it's iconic for a reason. I read the book before seeing the first film, and it was "less than" for that reason as the book was much better. I guess that is something that can't really be avoided when making a movie from a book. And the second film, that was even worse for similar reasons as the book was much better, but they just went off the rails on that one. I actually considered walking out on that one, as I've never done that before, but I came close on that one. And for part 3, there was no book to compare it to(so nothing to fall short on), and while the story was dumb AF, It was straight and to the point, drop everyone in the middle of dinosaur island and watch the chaos ensue. Sometimes less is more.

My ranking is definitely 1, 2, 3. Also Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World: Dominion are definitely worth checking out! I mean they do keep the story going. So you should see how it "ends". Or at least where they're at now, in the Jurassic series.

  • @Marnie_C

The original writer of the books died before the 3rd movie and he never wrote a 3rd book. The 2nd movie does deviate from the book a bit but it still had some ground work. The 3rd entry would be the first without any input. There are claims that the plot of this movie kept being rewritten up until filming with some characters being completely changed after casting so its possible the studio didn't know where they wanted to take it. I do hope you watch the next film though as a lot of the original themes from the first book that weren't adapted in the first film got a second chance.

Spinosaurus became the poster boy for this film because it was a very poorly known dinosaur at the time it came out (the only quality specimen of it had been accidentally destroyed by a daylight bombing raid in World War II). But in the years after the film’s release, more and more paleontological evidence was found about what Spinosaurus was actually like, and the general public saw just how wrong the JP franchise got this dinosaur. The real Spinosaurus was a dinosaur that spent most of its life in the water and mainly ate fish. Because of all this new evidence, the writers of the franchise had to go back and retcon the Spino’s origin story to a dinosaur that was heavily mutated and experimented on by InGen scientists, and as a result of this it developed a severe grudge against humans (they were basically torturing it).
As for the fight with the T-Rex, if this had been a fight between the real versions of those dinosaurs, the Spino would have been DEAD after the very first bite it got from the T-Rex. It also would not have been able to break the Rex’s neck so effortlessly because T-Rex has an UNBELIEVABLY strong neck (some paleontologists have referred to it as a “bull-neck”).

I prefer this over lost world and the other sequels for one reason it went more of the novel route. The river raft scene. The aviary. Ingen genetically engineering new dinos and making hybrids. And more importantly it's different. It's not the same concept a park gone wrong. They were just animals in our century. This is more of a monster flick it just keeps chasing them and being hunted by raptors. So it's different and creative and I enjoyed it for that

The third one has not THAT amount of quality but is still a great script and job, but I HATE that Alan didn't staid with Ellie. In the novels i get it they are like 20 years in difference but the movies had that opportunitie. The jurassic world franchise has way less script effort, still as a dinosaur lover is just i like dinosaurs. And i enjoy seeing them in the big screen. But if i could choose i would stay with the two novels and the movies

A spinosaurus would never be able to beat a tyrannosaurus on land it’s just not possible. To start with it has a very narrow snout something that’s not made for lots of power. The Tyrannosaurus rex has a very thick skull and strong bone structure which it would most likely use to ram the spinosaurus breaking several of its bones. The best chance a spinosaurus would have against the T-Rex is if it was near water and it could drown it because the T-Rex could not swim very well and because of its dense bones it would sink like a rock. Also they really scaled up both dinosaurs in this movie but in real life the T-Rex would be a small bit bigger.

This is a good movie, but Tea Leoni needed to be knocked the F out about 5 times. My favorites are the 2 first movies...J. Park and J. World...then JP 2, JP 3, JW 2 then JW 3. The final movie had good intentions, but was the worst one. I can watch any of these first 3 movies anytime and be entertained.

    Movie finds a way.
I didn't hate everything in this movie. It's fun. I think it simply didn't measure up to what we wanted, for these movies to get progressively better in every way with each one.
Jurassic World movies are sequels to Jurassic Park. It's all in the same universe and canon, and they're as good as the Jurassic Park movies in their own way, so yep, continue on into Jurassic World. With the disclaimer, I don't feel like any of the movies after Jurassic Park 1 are 100% completely worthy sequels. I'm not saying the first one was without flaws either, just that none of the sequels in sum total of their parts were better, and they could have been. One exception, Jurassic World Dominion, the most recent entry, was absolutely terrible, despite the inclusion of the original cast.

The Jurassic World movies are so awful... they managed to make everything so ridiculously over the top you just can't enjoy it at all. The first and third one in particular are so crazy, with Transformers like fights between the dinosaurs and people/ dinosaurs almost headnodding to eachother while lightning flashes and that kind of nonsense. It's like watching a cartoon.

Probably mid tier. It's definitely not the original, even the second was better, but I like it for having Grant again, new dinosaurs like the Spino and Pterosaurs... But then again Jurassic World is above it slightly so 🤷🏻‍♂️

In my opinion the Jurassic PARK Franchise has no single bad movie, though this movie is definetly the weakest of the Original Trilogy it's still miles above than the absolute Garbagefire that is the Jurassic World Franchise

I overall, really hate this movie... because you can see there could have been fun solid action film in there.... but it turned out so cheesy and has so many problems. We even walked out of the theatre before the credits rolled. At least The Lost World took itself way more serious (minus 1 or 2 moments). The script is terrible in this third movie.
The opening credits just tells you how this movie is gonna feel... cheesy, it has no class. It opens with horror movie credits 😂. They did have some good set pieces I gotta say and the movie was colourful... but it still really feels like a very expensive saturday/sunday made for tv movie.
    Loved:
    The Pteranodon Aviary sequence
    Grant
    New big bad... Spinosaurus
    Hated:
Openingscene needed a little glimpse of a dinosaur... it feels really cheap now.
The annoying couple in basically every scene.
Jungle boy, throws gass bombs, collects rex pee... it's so silly. It really is like fan fic.
The constant fade in and outs.
    No subplot, worldbuilding at all.
    Talking Raptor in plane.... why?
Ill placed humor (the dino poop scene... that music... god make it stop).
Scrapped Pteranodon attack at the end at the beach... (The Lost World production also scrapped a Pterandon attack sequence at the village)
Stealing 2 eggs wouldn't make the Velociraptors abandon their nests to attack the people on the outer rim of the island. The raptors had tons of eggs, they can't count.
Barney & Charlie scenes interrupting the suspenceful river sequence.
    Movie has no real climax.
This movie is so childish with some good setpieces/action sequences. You can totally see they threw the script out and penned one just before/ during filming.

I wish they had stopped making these at the first one. There was absolutely no need for any sequels to this movie. JP1 was perfect after it was on its own.

I disagree. I have been entertained by the entire franchise. Yes, some are certainly better than others, and yes, the first one is the best one. But I and many other people enjoy the others.

I remember seeing this in theaters for my bday. JP is and will always be my favorite film franchise of all time, but walking out of that theater at 13 years old thinking "oh, something you love can sometimes suck," was a first for me. Definitely one of the worst of the franchise, not saying they're all great but at least the others had some redeeming moments more so than this one did.
There was an article a couple years back(?), i forget the publication, but it basically broke down why JP3 was doomed to fail in an increasingly connected filmverse hollywood that was getting started around the same time, it (JP3) was one of the last one off adventure moves *set* in a franchise. Idk i probably paraphrased it wrong but I found it interesting. But to answer your question, I think it'd fall between 'mid-tier' and 'totally awful' lol

The second movie was, by far worse than the third one... and the 4th film in the franchise almost takes first place. It's pretty good.

    • @XanArt21
      @XanArt21 3 месяца назад

The 4th movie is so terrible, ugly, empty. So much greenscreen, cgi, banality... it's almost like watching some weird dinosaur Pixar movie. The other 2 world movies are even worse story wise but to say JW 2015 is almost nr 1 is beyond ridiculous.
The Lost World at least feels in tune with the first.

Not popular opinion: Jurassic Park 3 was way better than the first film. People only like the first film because of nostalgia and Jeff Goldblum. Though after rewarching it myself, the CGI was terrible, there wasn't many dinosaurs and the park wasn't as interesting as I remember it was.
Jurassic Park 3 had more dinos, better CGI and a new alpha dino that wasn't the overused Rex. Don't care what anyone says, I'll always favor the third film instead of the first.

So this was supposed to be a movie loaded with overshadowing for a 4th movie that ended up stuck in development hell for years idk why they finally did release Jurassic world but allegedly there was supposed to be a Jurassic park 4 that would then be followed up bye the reboot but I guess producers said no we have to dumb the movies down first and boy they sure did from what I understand for most of the years the problem was finding a good script / story
