"you're barring hella shit" thanks mario riff is no problem now
I honestly think their self titled album is a classic. It has so much character and remains fluid the entire time. It's a beauty.
Agreed, I’ve seen them live being a big polyphia fan, but never liked their sound very much. The self titled album completely opened my eyes, can’t wait to see them as a fan for the first time
I think it's cus they got bass bro back
@@BJ.Cardoso Esiah apparently didn't play on some of the songs, it was the bassist that recorded the homey album too. Anthony Crawford.
Esiah is a god though
@@JuanEsquivel-ex8nv yeah, too bad he only decided to join the band after they got big. It only feels like the real chon now because all the bros are together
100% I've always loved chon, but the self titled is a new level imo. One of my favorite albums all time now
Chon is a gift
CHON’s writing is so amazing. Even back to Mario’s early riffs, they have this incredible voice that brings me back to the warm breeze and sunshine of socal.
I can’t praise them enough for their songwriting, let alone their stand out ability to perform. I’ve seen them multiple times, every time was so clean it blew my mind. And they are very chill guys. Really thankful for chon
The first time I ever heard Mario he was in a band called To Each His Own and his riffs and solos really stood out, even then. I discovered Chon early on when they released their demo around 2008. Crazy that it basically started as a side project and now they're incredibly influential.
Here's a young Mario shredding, haha

My buddies band played a few stops of a southwestern tour of the United States, and when they came through I saw them and my friends play, and my buddy said they were super chill
ericks harmonies are always so interesting
Sooo emotional
@@victorbitencourt9481 for real. It sounds depressingly romantic
It's great to see the homies thrive. I'll never forget NBC playing Chon during the Olympics.
Christopher Vaca can you link me a vid so I can see it
I remember that shit lmaoo
@@hyena4564 pls, me t2
bruv, send the link asap
wait what.. when? we need links!
2:07 "you're barring hella shit" had me dead
"barring hella shit" is my new catchphrase for when anything gets hard
What a duo I hope that stay friends and make music for decades to come
0:40 Mario, this is not slow for us, humans.
Hey this is Mario and Erick from Chon putting delay pedals out of business for over 10 years.
Mario's Part 0:41
Erik's Part 1:19
For anyone trying to learn :)
Great stuff. Would be awesome if there was more to the 'riff rundown' than "okay now I'm gonna play it slow." Would love to see how they wrote and arrived at the riff, why they chose to harmonize the two parts that way, etc.
From what I can see, in the second chord I think one is playing Am and the other is playing F, those are basically interchangeable chords because Fmaj7 is Am/F. I think they’re doing this in every chord.
I have a math test in few hour, thanks for this vid, really chilled meout
Preparing for math tests with math rock, perfect.
It’s one the first albums I have actually considered buying on vinyl. Absolutely amazing album.
Is that Eric's signature model? Love it!
Yepp
!!!2:09!!! Mario: “You’re barring hella shit!” 😂🤣 honestly the most next level dudes I’ve ever seen!
Chon is so underrated!!
Damn when he said « definitely stretch your hand », I wasn’t expecting it to hurt that much 😂
Big love for these two
thanks for this lads. Now do this for every song
I love the contrast between the two parts: one is sweet and the other is sour and together they are like these sour gummy worms
Bro. That's an amazing analogy
So good.
Love this band.plz write more sick riffs like this!
YEEESS SO SICKK!!!
Those bar chords are giving me arthritis
Oh nice
Thanks for this gift, chon
That hybrid picking is crazy.
I gotta barre hella shit? Oh damn
This tapping thing … it’s insane
“You’re barring hella shit” lmao
Everyone: POLYPHIA! POLYPHIA! POLYPHIA!
ME: I mean.. yes. For sure . But.....CHON ♡♡♡♡♡
Polyphia are Chon for casuals
Christmas vibesss
:,)
Does that mean another rig rundown is coming??! Their rig has changed a lot since the last one, lots of new pedals and the signature guitars
A must do vid. Would like to see the changes made
kings
Oh, I saw it slow and now I can play it perfectly? I don't think if they played one note a minute it would make a difference.
Not to imply that it's easy, but I was able to learn by picking out the notes one at a time at .75 speed. I've been playing guitar for a while though. Just keep at it, you'll get it! :)
there's a tab book for the entire new album on sheat happens
"youre barring hella shit" LOL
Pros being pros
Am I the only one who thinks the riff sounds better slow?
"We are barring hella shit"
Was hoping for a tab....!
If you pay attention Mario taps upwards and Erick downwards. I prefer Mario’s technique for myself :)
Artificial Planet this comment blew my mind. I’ve been tapping downwards the whole time and found multi-finger tapping a chore but tapping upwards really helps!
@@ScrambleBandOfficial Honestly sometimes (not always as you can see) that's the difference between the begginer and the experienced tapper, the majority of guitarists start doing it downwards but that's because nobody teaches tapping upwards as the "proper" or most effective technique. Just look at Christian Muenzner tapping and see how clean his technique looks. The reason I think it's the proper way is because you're doing the same motion as a pull off legato on your left hand but with your picking hand instead (hope my explanation was clear). Anyway, that doesn't mean that tapping downwards is wrong, I just think that it's more natural to do it upwards, and once you start doing it that way, it makes everything easier.
I totally get it! Your fingers naturally clasp closed with more dexterity than when flung open. I honestly can't get over how much easier it is! Thanks ever so much, what a random youtube comment can do!!!!!
I think the most common method is doing both. when you tap with one finger going down is easier, but when you use two you have to go up to remain in the same position. I see them do it both ways constantly and I learned the difference by watching them and learning their riffs.
No idea how to play it, but sick video
Can you imagine being able to play awesome blues guitar solos, in any key, over the entire fretboard, at the drop of a hat? Because let me tell you, it's as easy as ABC
I heard a commercial like that.
Tabs!! 🤍
I'm noticing a similarity between them and polyphia, not only riff wise, but also with sig guitars
so damn pretty
Can anyone tell me if the harmonies are an octave up or is Erick playing the third harmonie of Mario's parts?
I don’t know if they’re playing 3rds all the time (one would have to transcribe it note by note), but in the second chord I think one is playing Am and the other is playing F, those are a third a part.
sounds like thirds, Just learn both parts and figure it out.
@@FullMetalDMZ on the third chord Erick is playing Bbmaj7 and Mario is playing Gsus9
definitely hurts the hand holy shit
4 strings bar with the pinky? i guess i will need some .07 gauge to play chon
i wish ericks part was a little louder on the track
S I C K
This music reminds me of Wes Anderson.
They are not playing this live unfortunately :(
this riff might be the first riff i actually cannot even start to get right
easy
Barrin’ hella shit
Complicated for the sake of complication…blahhhhhhhhh
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Thinking like that is why you don’t know music theory
Not even.
It’s definitely very melodic.
Some complex chords but they’re “extended chords” tho.
