Very cool I just ordered a 288 kit from farmertech. Seen the cranks and rods have become much harder. I’m excited to port it. Got a 36” bar coming. I’ve got a lot of cutting to do
I lost the clip putting the case together somehow. That being said, this saw has new Nachi crank bearings, OEM seals and gaskets. This saw is going to be for sale soon.
I just bought one like new 288 made in Brazil, but some of the parts aren't exactly like the original Swedish made chainsaw was, I have couple and I checked them out.
I have a 288xp on the bench that I am going to restore. I am torn on which "jug" to go with: Hyway ($90), Meteor ($129), OEM ($200). This won't be my main go to saw, I just enjoy restoring them and I'll never get my money back when I eventually have to sell it. Thanks for the video and nice job as always.
Here's another option, there's an OEM cylinder for sale on ebay. It's used and has no piston but I think it could be bought for about $75ish (bidding is at $45 with shipping with a day and a half left). Add a Meteor piston for 40ish and that's a good value.
Let's say you buy a roll of 3/8 .050 chain for say $350. There's 1640 drive links. That's 0.213 per drive link. A 20" chain (72drive links) would be $15.37 per loop. That being said, if you can justify the cost of the spinner and breaker ($150-200 for a good set) as an initial cost and have a long term plan or you use a bunch of chain, it totally makes sense.
Just got my vintage one today Richard
Hooray, 288! Mine is all springs or mostly, nice n smoove. Current favorite saw.

Husqvarna has a factory in Brazil still producing some of the classic saws, like the 55, 272 and 288 among others.
The 395's delivered to the States for the last two years have been Brazilian made. Wish they would send some up 272's and 288's up here!

I love the torque of a 288
Nice
What a time capsule of an iconic saw!
Thanks!

@@richardflagg3084 Thanks for the heads up, I'll go take a look on Ebay.
@@w6qd Did you get it? Sold for $54 including shipping. If you did, that was a killer deal!
@@richardflagg3084 no, I didn't win the bidding :^( Since I couldn't see the cylinder on person, I want willing to go big.
@@w6qd I understand. The pictures were fair at best.
The carb box baffel / carb box seal is different on no XP compared to non XP 288 .
Looks and sounds like you did a great job on saw . How much savings is it to buy chain on the100 foot rolls and is it easy to put links together?

It is nice to have a dedicated table for cutting chain. I'll do a video on it in the next day or two and show y'all how I do it. How's that?
@@richardflagg3084 That would be great thank you
