The hi-back is good for smoke jumpers because it accepts a bigger air filter generally. So when fighting fires with no time and place to service a saw, it will take longer for the filter to get clogged with sawdust, dirt and smoke.
Very nice handles you sent our friend Killinger, he was really excited with them. Hope your recovery continues to get you stronger each day. Blessings my friend 🙏
Buckin, I have been a follower since the beginning of your channel and just wanted to let you know, it has been great to see you back on the stump, something that has been largely missing. I just turned 81 years old and have been involved in logging, sawmill operating and farming over my lifetime. Please include as much on the stump content as possible, I well realize that is not always possible, like your recent bout with a shoulder problem. After all my years falling and logging, I enjoy your work on the stump at or near the top! Keep plugging and show yourself on the stump when possible, It is great to see how you handle the saws, evaluate each tree and put the log on the ground. Nick, North West Farmer (Oregon)
I find alot of those 'pipes' to be too open. 2strokes need a chamber in the exhaust for scavenging. Look at the drag saws exhaust for example. Of course there's the fact that we are in the business of tree work and filling our truck and trailer for winter and need reliability. The new saws like the 592xp stainless mufflers are brilliant. Stay safe fellas
Good video great info short and sweet keep them videos coming got hurt 4months ago at work had surgery and your videos really help me get by thanks for all you do everyone have a great rest of the week be kind over n out

Hey buckin. Lovely weather you got there fella. Back here in wales we've just had the wettest weather for over 40 years😢 You and your family have a lovely easter😊
Cool. I saw a vid on that same throttle issue and never checked my 288 to see if it’s got the same thing going on. Thanks for the reminder. I’m going to have a look right now. Love you Buckin!!!💪
I think they leave slack because they have Cushy handles so if u dog in and it was already full throttle it would try and break the linkage. !! So they made em with play so when u pull on the dogs they’ll go full throttle. Simple
Depending on the model of carb, some have throttle plates that move beyond “full throttle” when you wack the lever to full stop position. The only way you can tell if you are at full throttle is to take the carb and intake block off and mock it up and visually observe the throttle plate when you move it to full throttle position. This one is a Tilly so it may be fine. I just built one with a Walbro and it had to be modified a bit.
Amen Buckin. Working trees and lumber is good for us and we can keep it a positive thing, thank you for being THE messenger of kindness! Love you friends, I won’t be around as much for a couple months so I wish you all safety, productivity and love.
Man BBR keeps his wood pile nice, dry and ahead of schedule. I got behind the past couple years and thankfully had some dead trees fall down for me in early spring so I could quick cut them up and burn them for heat! :)
Nice comparison of 2 very nice running strong work saws. I know what your saying about running a power saw, I always feel better while and after I cut some wood. Very satisfying!
Dang you remind me of me Buck Skin but your smarter and better logger I'm hobby your full blown ported polished professional my man magnificent experience
Pretty cool video work on the double screen..wow...where did you learn that.. Both appear to be great saws...porting no doubt makes a diff Maybe a really good test would be to do rips with an akaskan in say an 8 foot section of the same saw log...rip chain etc...center cuts...same amount of wood...make sense?
Hey Buckin’, great video. I’ve had that problem with 281/288 with more recent OEM throttle arms and carbs on saws I’ve built (posted my solution on my channel in the 288 rebuild playlist)…..something changed, or perhaps there was an original design flaw. Anyway, my solution to that was a little more hoaky. Like your solution far better. Exactly what did you put on the carb throttle to solve the problem (grommet or bushing of some type?)….any specs on the piece you put on it? Would appreciate any info on that. I’d like to try it. I’ve always loved the way a 281/288 XP sounds when idling.
Menurut saya setiap mesin itu tidak sama masalah nya. Apalagi mesin2 yang sudah tinggi jam kerjanya. Jadi tidak semua sembuh dengan penyetelan karburator saja 👍
I’ve had my ol low top for 12 yr or so and ps hardest workin saw I got…on Alaskan mill right now and you know the process runnin 1 there….wfo till the brake melts off..rip it off and keep cuttin…
I completely respect that you have decades of experience with saws, but have you ever thought of using a tachometer? I would assume that you're making these tuning videos for inexperienced tuners (like me) and just going by sounds seems like a good way to blow up a saw.... just a thought....
It's kinda pointless using a tach on a ported or piped saw. They dont run the same rpm as stock so you dont know where to set em rpm wise. I dial mine in by ear cutting large wood then tach em to see where they're at then I can use the tach to tune for weather changes after that.
@Buckin' Billy Ray Smith ? So if I watched it, which I obviously did, then it was for me? 😉 Personally, appreciated the comment above because it explained what I didn't understand. That was helpful. Anyways, love your videos and I'll keep watching and picking up any little tid bits that I can. 😀
I just got my first power saw and I gotta admit I know nothing about how to tune it so it’ll run properly. It’s nothing crazy or big. It’s just a Husqvarna 120 mk2 with the 14” bar. I have learned to sharpen it with a round file from watching Billy’s videos and I think I do a decent job but I need to get this thing running right. Ive got a big pine just over 100’ tall and thick enough that the 14” bar only cuts about half way throw the tree. I gotta get it cut up so I can start moving it before my wife blows a gasket lol
Hey Buckin! I have a request if that's ok. Please if your able, I've been hoping to see your awesome P38 on the channel. fingers crossed! Much love to ya buddy!

Glad it helped They probably did machine work, which lowered the cylinder, dropping the carb linkage.
That would do it. Mines stock and was fine but something to keep in mind. I’d like to wake it up one day. Kinda funny, mine is painted black too
That was a fun video.
I've had that same issue with the throttle on a couple saws I've built.
Must of lowered the cylinder eh

Put a piece of hose line over the throttle arm

entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia
a motosserra roncava machado velho tinia
e naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
