Best version ever. Conducted sublime, performed sublime and best of all recorded like a true boss. Have heard so many versions where the choir sounded thin and vague. This just sounds like pilars of true holiness. Really does great honor to the piece.
Eduardo Poblete de Chile, la obra maestra del gran J.S. Bach, y esta versión del maestro Gardiner es sin lugar a dudas la mejor grabación, con instrumentos originales, el tempi la interpretación y el coro fabuloso.
Heard this live in its entirety in Seattle a few weeks ago. This place has wonderful musical performances -- almost enough to offset the horrible winters. LOL
@PhysicalsimForever That makes sense. Personally, I'm a sucker for "authentic" interpretations. I have Gardiner's recordings of the Beethoven symphonies, and he explains on a CD accompanying the set how the use of a smaller ensemble (such as what Beethoven would have used) allows things that a larger ensemble wouldn't. But there's no single right way to perform a piece, and I definitely appreciate the benefits of having a larger ensemble.
this is the first version i brought of the b minor.....very good especially the crucifixus ....can any one load the full version....i no longer have it :-(
@PhysicalsimForever Tempi weren't as extreme in the Baroque era--the slows weren't as slow and the fasts weren't as fast. Also, since Baroque music is based on dance, nothing should be too slow. That's my opinion, at least.
The best ever is Karl Richter's: he is the last great Bach interpreter: the English know nothing about Baroque art in Europe, a stunning magnificent movement that was made to stun, in music, literature and buildings. Moreover it was their Churchill that destroyed the most beautiful baroque city in the world with Rome, the unhappy Dresden, lost forever.
This featuring of this Messe is not too bad for the price paid to, and the number of the actors.. The best ones are from Michel Corboz , Ernst Jochum and Karajan . All the others are a bit pretentious and vain . Those poor conductors pretending re write the masterpiece .

Everyone has their favourite and this is mine. The Monteverdi Choir are supreme!

@1banders My point is that Baroque music shouldn't be too slow.
@1banders Honestly, I'm not that familiar with the differences between the various dances, but my best guess for this movement is allemande.
It's not too slow, it's very good tempo for Kyrie. J. S. Bach wrote it for this tempo.

Unai Urigoiti-Irizabalbarrena has posted it in full.

Well maybe the Germans shouldn't have bombed hell out of England first.
