Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble and Choir, Leader: Thomas Hengelbrock
Johann Sebastian Bach: Messe in h-moll - Kyrie
Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble und Chor, Leitung: Thomas Hengelbrock
That opening! I've heard this mass a thousand times and it still gives me chills.
+M Barnes Believe it or not, the opening took Bach more ore less from another composer.
Saw this in concert with Hengelbrock and BNE years ago. Truly amazing. And the choir sung it all from memory (they must be getting older). I think some people don't find Hengelbrock edgy enough, but I love it.
Bravo, for your music knowledge, both of you!
Johann Bach honestly was the most talented music composer bach then
Most talented bach then, and most talented of all time according to me. This master piece says everything....
今夜 NHKホールで ヘンゲルブロック指揮+バルタザルノイマン合唱団でバッハの「マニフィカト」を聴いた。
その素晴らしさ この映像の通りだった。
The wonderful music of this kind remembers me when I worked in the seventies at WNYC FM New York Music Library with Lawrence Poppo and Webb Bennet. These times will never come back...
I have been waiting for many years and hope for a DVD release for the whole performance. It is 2020 now, and there is still no progress.
Fortunately, this Kyrie is always there.
This is usually the case when period instruments are used which are tuned a semi-tone lower then modern pitch.
I see no reason why this expression of opinion should be received so negatively. I hardly watch the video, so I can't tell if he's flailing his arms too much, but the comment seemed sincerely in favor of the music.
True i dumped religion it more or less failed me. or maybe i it. But either way listening to Bach. Before i was even notified about religion. Always envisioned him as some kinda God. Or that his music elevated him to such a level. Now being older and with more knowledge i just find it very odd that i thought of him as a God before i truly knew what it was about
see Wiki article on "Concert_pitch"
Interesting in that article: "Many modern ensembles which specialize in the performance of Baroque music have agreed on a standard of A = 415 Hz" (has a strange citation but is true according to my experience in Germany), but on the other hand "the organs played by Johann Sebastian Bach in Hamburg, Leipzig and Weimar were pitched at A = 480 Hz" (no citation, don't know); who knows - maybe it's just a strong soprano lobby? lol
I've listened to the vast list of the Mass by the most prestigious maestros. This version is by far the best. The tempi, the intensity, and the lack of "famous" lead singers turns it into
the best choice. My daughter cried when she was 4 years old listening to this glorious sound. I know it's the intent of Bach and she really felt it
Please can you upload the rest of this concert ?
Well done, we'd like to here the finish and the rest of the "Kyrie" (it has three parts).
Ça c'est de la musique "absolue".
fantastic musis a full christians..
Music should be listen not watched.
Singing is great! Decoding is not so good...
@mahelander I agree completely. Balthasar-Neumann-Orchester und Chor are outstanding ensembles. Please note, that JSB had probably only 16 - 20 singers to perform his masterpieces. So the choir is not too small.
ehhh voices rock, instruments rocks, music is a forever never ending thing of beauty...having sung in a professional recorded and televised choir... i slip... I still don't see the hype ...or value of the conductor outside the practise hall LOL lol yah I said it and if you find this offensive or negative explain your feelings and thoughts instead of voting down..... marcelatlarge
Your statement here could only suggest that at that point in time a rendition with Helmuth Riling and his Stuttgart ensemble did not exist on RUclips! ;-D
I have seen the performance two days ago in Brussels with Philippe Herreweghe. Very professional ensemble.
This is a wonderful performance. I just find the conductor to be a bit distracting. But marvelous singing and playing.
This is the passion Bach was after. This conductor is brilliant; as are the orchestra and choir.
mahelander - indeed one of the BEST performance (and recording) of
Bach's B minor Mass Kyrie on RUclips! - so accurate, crystal clear,
full of expression, astounding !!!
Wonderful.
Hello. Thank you for posting this video. Can you tell me where I can have access to the whole video.
I saw the B-N-E a few years ago doing this. Absolutely astounding. And the choir sang the whole thing without scores.
@muurtalo the instruments are pitched slightly lower as its a period ensemble.
A beautiful performance, but the conductor is a bit too animated.
I love the directors facial expressions!
If Musician/Actors performed this Mass in B minor with tremendous expression at full blast (like the director), what a performance it would be.
The conductor's job is NOT to mouth the words. The singers' jobs are to sing and the conductor is to conduct the performance. Mouthing the words is not cool.
موسیقی باخ همیشه افسونگر بوده
E' il kirie dalla messa in si minore di Bach.
I love the way it is conducted.
it's not in B, this one is in B flat
It's not in B minor...
Wonderful selection of music
@mahelander second best!
this conductor is awesome!
Amazing Quality!!!
superb
Волшебно!!!!!
Can't think of anything worse than watching musicians grinning their way through a work like this. This isn't André Rieu. This is a proper interpretation of music, as it would be at the time of Bach.
What should they do? Go all garish and theatrical and dress up like an extra in a period drama like André Rieu and his "musicians"? No thank you.
