An excellent rendering of this artwork by the Monteverdi choir, British soloists and Monteverdi orchestra conducted by John Eliot Gardiner. A relatively modest number of baroque instruments, a relatively large and splendid choir, that includes the vocal soloists. Excellent sound and video recording from 2016. The structure of the music is transparent and each instrument individually assured. The choir is able to produce solid masses of sound. The baroque trumpets, perfect. This is a rendering that approaches the sounds that must have been heard at the inside of Leipzig Saint Thomas Kirche. Félicitations.

Polish king Has ordered this music but it turned out to be too Protestant. Bach treated this as a chance to jump into fame. He was then in the beginning of his carreer.
I'm not quite sure this is what really happened. Seemingly Bach wrote an early (shorter) version in 1733 and gave a copy to Polish King Augustus III (instead of the king ordering it), in an attempt to get a position there (which he finally got some years later). However the full version was not completed until 1749.

A wonderful performance of a great work. A culmination of years of composing. As a none believer you wont see me waxing lyrical about the wonders of god. Bach was, admittedly, inspired by his religious faith, but above all he was a technical composer of the highest order. To re work earlier works in such a way as to create a masterpiece is beyond comprehension. The B minor mass takes your breath away not because it's religious but because it is genius in action and the technical brilliance spans generations of music
Yet this is written for the Catholic church interestingly. Yes an astonishing work. I was privileged to sing in 1985. We performed 2 nights in a row. Second night, trumpet player fainted. Luckily there was a talented sub in the audience. I still remember the scary entry in the Sanctus.
@@pedroreiser2832 No, it uses the Catholic liturgy, not the Lutheran liturgy. If it were based upon the Protestant liturgy, it wouldn't be called a Mass. Plus, the fact that this Mass is in Latin is proof that it was written for the Catholic Church. Protestant churches have never done their services in Latin.

Absolutely agree, Jorge! By the way, I kindly recommend the appreciation of the work of a living classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music. I feel myself like a sort of non-official ambassador for his music - and, effectively, also one of his few supporters. He is very, very talented. @@richardh.stewart7728 Many thanks for your suggestion. I searched google and youtube and found very few and short instances of Ferdinand compositions. They are of course, excellent works. One would like to see and hear more substantial works, as they look promising.
@@jorgeurzuaurzua4011 I had the opportunity to see manuscripts - and the works are outstanding. Sadly, professional recordings are very expensive, but a few people are helping out. Hopefully, we will very soon be able to appreciate his works with justice.
The best version (for me)...congratulations
Here you have a catholic mass written by a lutheran, conducted by an anglican (just guessing...) and being listened to and enjoyed by an atheist son of a jewish... isn't it marvelous?
La musique de Bach :
Beauté universelle!!!
@@fmiyaramusic2462 Fine. Thank you for straightening.
No, should all be Catholic, the rest of them are confused
Among the greatest of musical works. Scalp tingling! Wonderful performance.
This is a great performance. I'd forgotten how wonderful this piece is.
1. Sir Gardiner 2. Monteverdi Choir 3. Paris Pilharmonic. These three elements make this excellent piece of music complete. Nothing more is needed.
Incorrect.... 3. English Baroque Soloists....
Maravilloso. De las mejores obras de J.S. Bach. !Qué decir del coro, orquesta y director! Es difícil encontrar mejores.
Why would anyone ever listen to any other performance?! (Or watch -- which is at least half the fun when the performers are this relaxed and enjoying themselves this much!)
I agree with you about this magnificent performance. And I also highly recommend the Netherlands Bach Society performance of this work. It’s soo good…I bet you’ll like it too
Grazie Maestro Gardiner!
Give us peace: with these words ends the greatest piece of music I know, and I have asked for it to be played at my funeral.
Magnifique , sublime , c’est un sommet !
Marvelous, well done. 💙👍
Musique divine!

Bach’s music would be nothing without altos and basses….please don’t forget that! Thank God Bach didn’t have to listen to people telling him things like that!
Most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.
I adore the 'Dona Nobis Pacem', played and sung beautifully here. Bach's sublime choral music is safe in Sir John Eliot Gardiner's most capable hands. Bravo!
Bach meraviglioso compositore, Gardiner fantastico esecutore, coro, soli e orchestra spettacolari interpreti...
Fantastic. (Seems a trite word to us for this music and this performance.) thank you for this.
Ineffably sublime!
Magnifico concierto, coro ,orquesta, solistas y el director Gardiner grandioso. Un Gran Bravo para todos 👏👏
Classical music often incorporates imagination and expression of nature. The harmonies meld with the sounds of nature, crafting a musical experience akin to a mystical natural landscape.
Out of this world. Thank you MCO

@@materdeimusicd.buckley2974 It was composed for the protestant church. Bach was a Lutheran.
@@pedroreiser2832 Yes, Bach was a Lutheran, but this is a Catholic Mass.
Paz.
magnifico...proporzioni e volumi perfetti
What a performance!!!! That went straight into my saved list. Exquisite! What musicianship from every performer! Maestro Gardiner is beyond outstanding. What a thing of beauty. Thank-you for posting this for us to hear and see. Bravissimo!!!!
’Osanna’ in its double-choir is without a doubt one of the greatest contrapunctal musical whole ever composed; the music is flowing forward naturally and beautifully despite the complex content. Very beautiful, emotional, poignant performance throughout.
The first movement of the Credo is one of my favorites. A 5 voice fugue for choir with walking bass. THEN 2 sections of violin enter IN STRETTO.
Simplesmente maravilhoso.
The orchestral sound is very dense and rich. Sir Gardiner's leading is always the best. All performers are wonderful.

Thank You Johann Sebastian Bach. aeternal Lux for you. Very touching version.
