Mozart wrote the Soprano part in this mass for his new wife Constanze Weber, and she sang it at the 1783 premier of the piece in Salzburg. Yes, Mozart was married to a singer. That likely helped him write his later operas.
Interesante información, gracias! 😮😊❤
Of the few really great composers who ever lived, none is as lovable as Mozart. The sheer beauty of much of his music is extraordinary, and this is just one example of it.
Danke Sir Ellirot Gardiner.
Vraiment bravo!!!
Wow, Miah Persson is outstanding. Her voice lifts above the choir and orchestra without dominating, and she allows it to blend in when appropriate and rise over at the most important points. There is a subtlety and personality to her singing that I have rarely heard. Just gorgeous.
I just came back to listen to this for the first time in a while, saw this comment, got all excited and was about to reply to say how much I agreed with it...then realised it was me 😳
I agree with both of “you”. Mia is otherworldly
BTW, I’ve done this too😮
I've always loved this performance for that reason more than any other!
It is crime for Google to insert junk food ads in this video...
This is the most hauntingly exquisite piece of music ever written. How triumph and defeat can be expressed simultaneously is beyond my human ability to absorb...
Perfect performance! Can imagine what a grand labour it was to present such a masterpiece. Bravissimo Maestro Conductor, and many many thanks to all performers.
1:34 - you won't hear much better spot-on pitching from a soprano section than that!
Watching this in lockdown I find myself suddenly asaulted by emotion and moved to the verge of tears...
Greatest mass, in my opinion, This is probably the best rendition of this mass I've listened to.
I'd give Bach's mass in B minor, mass in G minor and Handel's messiah a try. These are some of the masses I believe you might prefer over this great mass.
@@WaldoTW and Beethoven's D Major :)
@@WaldoTW Vesperae Solemnes de confessore, composed by Mozart, is better than them all.
@@supernivemdealbabor Yes, definitely, Equilbey's. And Equilbey herself! You may say charisma if you like but isn't really the word, It's really a kind of humane genius that cares so skilfully for everyone involved.
Excellent conductor in Edward Gardiner. Outstanding performance. Leslie Wood
🎵 "Classical music is a voyage into the sublime, where every crescendo and diminuendo is a brushstroke on the canvas of the human experience. It's a timeless dialogue between the composer and the listener, a conversation that transcends epochs and speaks to the very essence of our shared humanity." 🎹🌌
Mozart touches nerves inside.
Eccellente.
This mass, as much as than any other, centrally showcases the soprano as soloist. "Et Incarnatus Est" must be one of the hardest things for a lyric soprano to sing well.
He wrote it for his wife Constanze, who was a soprano. She sang that role in the premiere of the (unfinished) Mass in Salzburg.
The choir is outstanding!
Monteverdi Choir are amazing
Thanks to John Elliot Gardiner

Greatest performance of the mass ever.
agree totally.
Laurence Equilbey did a pretty nice one also.
The trouble is that there are numerous recordings in which some segments of the work are done greatly while others not so.
No composer understood the vocals and all the musical instruments like Wolfgang Mozart. Mozart never been a perfect man, but his music is the perfect as God of music.
No composer on this planet understood, felt guidance of God, beter than Mozart. This music was dictated to Mozart by God himself. No humans, including Mahler, Wagner, Bruckner, were so close to God as Mozart was
Bach is the GOAT::@@SuperArkleo
@@SuperArkleo I'm sorry, I like your interpretation, but there are several excellent Mozart songs, however nothing compares to Bach. Mozart had everything in his hands (not everything), whereas Bach only had the basics up to .Today Bach is one of the most advanced relics of the piano. Musical offerings, 6-voice fugues, Bach was absurdly brilliant, but he doesn't have much recognition because no one sees that he didn't have nothing in he époc.
@p384 Surely, Beethoven knowing about this divine work by Mozart, had created his own "Missa Solemnis" which , indeed, is the hallmark of all religious music ever written.Incidentallly, I heared both with J.E.Gardiner conducting. Gardiner is magisian in the class by itself.
@@dervogelmann1125Bach was underappreciated in his own time, and he still is today, no doubt... But, it's funny how "Bach's greatest hits" ("Jesu joy of man's desiring", "Wachet Auf", "Christmas Oratorio", etc) are all derived from older Lutheran hymns, which in turn were derived from Gregorian chant... There is nothing new under the sun. Everything is derivative... Except Mozart. (As the character of HRE Joseph II in the movie 'Amadeus' put it; "you've shown us something quite new"!)
I love it from the bottom of my heart ❤️ Mozart would be probably proud, great performance 😇🌹🙏
Every time I play it my cats coming around with pleasure ❤️😻😇
It is tndeed a great Mass:: Mozart,s best and the performance was exceptional under JE Gardiner and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the Monteverdi choir with wonderful soloist singers.

And what a conductor .. singing along with the Chorus .. smiling at instrumental soloists .. such an approach really makes you want to perform your best for him.
Also great boxer 😂
@@corradogiachetta2154for a while he will be unemployed therefore
Ann Hallenberg has a superbly controlled technique. A masterful musician, she sings with a gorgeous sound that modulates beautifully from far bottom to high top.
Mozart liked vocal voices for him it was the best unstrument probably his wife constanza sang the soprano voice An example of his love for wind instruments played by his friends flute. oboe and basoon is expressed in the aria benedictus
Interesting how the trombones are interspersed among the choir rather than with the body of the orchestra.
Only superlatives for this performance. Outstanding!! Chorus, soloist, and of course John Eliot Gardiner.
Maestro Gardner Superb choir, soloists and musicians played by God, Perfection.
The reason I’ve not committed suicide.🌹
Alvin--I'm certain that people love and need your presence. And I agree, this is a sustaining work.
Alvin Gonzalez one reason anyway for me.
Comment concevoir la vie sans Mozart ?
Gracias a Dios, Mozart mediante!
Listen to more Mozart, Bach,Beethoven,Handel and Vivaldi...their marvellous music paint the air around, and think of every hardship and tough situation that you have faced as a fight you won, a hit that left you stronger...enjoy life in every cup of coffee and in every aria...there is still alot of beauty out there in the world you must see))
OMG this is the best rendition of this amazing work. so grateful to all that participated in that amazing performance. thank you!
how do you feel when you take part into such piece ? it must be indescribable
Sentimento, canto, preghiera. Questo è Mozart!
the Monteverdi Choir is in one word glorious!
I would enjoy watching this performance with the camera on Gardiner the entire time. I love his expressiveness!!
With all the beauty in the choir?and the show of Mia Persson hahaha
i had that experience in London at the Barbican then he was performing Great Mass in C minor. Gardiner is superb. This sounds even more fantastic live.

The latin mass is the highest expression of devotion and beauty. The prayed mass is in itself beautiful, the solemn high mass is moving. This mass with orchestra is sublime. Glory be to God for the gift of the mass and the Catholic church. St Joseph, pray for us. Our lady of Guadalupe, cover us with your mantle and pray for us that we may be worthy of reaching the promises of Christ our Lord. Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning it is now and ever shall be, world without end. AMEN. Viva Cristo Rey!

This reflects and represents the very heights of Western civilization, which is why it is also the target of such withering attacks and censorship by omission.
I remember listening to this as a young kid on the cd player, and always looking forward to the intonation of the gloria and the fantastic continuation.
I don't like to cut a masterpiece but for the "Et incarnatus est" this is: 36:19
Thank you so very much to put this video again on RUclips! One of my fav concertos!
Mass not a concerto
Sublime!!! Voci eccelse!
A very fine performance of "Et incarnatus est". What a pleasure to see a beautiful young woman singing in such a relaxed manner. Her dress (which is also beautiful), her exposed shoulders, and her jewelry all might reveal the tensions and entanglements of a lesser artist, but this soprano seemed completely relaxed in throat and shoulders throughout. And the sound was beautiful and consistent throughout.
Also I've long been a fan of Ann Hallenberg, and deeply regret not seeing her live in any of her rare US performances.
I don't know this tenor, but I shall look him up, because i like him.
And everyone knows Peter Mattei as a very fine singer indeed.
Not just a job for her but an absolute joy.
aBSOLUTELY GLORIOUSLY WONDERFUL! especially notable are the soprano's who are just superb! And the bass & tenor are fittingly excellent! All four are fabulously accompanied by the choral singers & no less by the orchestra. Thoroughly enoyable - gets a standing ovation from me! 👌🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love Ann Hallenberg so much!!!
Best performance ever. I heard the recordings conducted by karajan, Bernstein, but this is just perfect in every aspect, the tempos, different sound planes of the choir and the orchestra, the dynamics. A joyful performance.
I agree. Great conductor, JEG is a fabulous Choirmaster. The solists are at the top.
7:35 that sounds really "Monteverdi Style" (or even Haendel's Halleluia!). Couldn't imagine Mozart behind this ! One of the best rendition I have ever heard btw.
Man, the soprano in 'Benedictus', esp, in 'in nomine' is just out of this world! That crystal-clear (with with some weight) top note crowning the quarteto is something to hear several times in row, so sublime it is! And it is also nice to see that she's smiling for her (actually their) great job - as the maestro is also happy to make clear. :)
This is so deep -is it human ? In 2019 one could doubt if this was made of a terrestrial being. Where does this music comes from -if not somewhere which is not very present in this materialistic world. But it is there -it is a fact -And we CAN here it! Conclusion : We have such a lang way yet to go......
if you say this about the video above, look and listen to this : ruclips.net/video/4R8TK0gxPxY/видео.html
We can, if we admire and worship before this music, Mozart points out to us our possible reserves and the huge potential that many spiritual people have.
An absolute masterpiece - beautifully performed

I was absolutely blown away by the Qui Tollis. Best performance I’ve ever heard, and excellent all around.
