The movie Platoon was my first exposure to this extraordinary work, it also took me back to Viet Nam and strangely reminded me of the mood swings following a major firefight. Barber, Both somber with hints of joy. restrained subdued tones that build into moments of great tension followed by release..The music is soothing, serene and uplifting.
Love it. If you do not like this, or appreciate it would be a better choice in word. Go dig a hole, in a rainy country. Then live in said hole until you appreciate this. Music now means nothing, once upon a time music meant something. This itself has been in several movies and games and has not lost its meaning.
gorgeous work of art and music. Samuel Barber is a God! I'm only 14 and I can understand the beautiful story through his music. Music like this only makes me believe in God and heaven even more than I already do!
despair not, my friend. From the ruins of an ancient sickness, (now coming to full fruition) a new way is rising... if we have the courage to face it. The fact that such music can still move you to tears means all is not lost.
Barber was a closeted gay man, at a period in US history when being openly gay meant being a despised pariah, subject to being fired from one's job, eviction from one's home, and an outcast from society, not to mention being tortured and murdered by anyone who took it into their head to do so, with the tacit (and sometimes not so tacit) approval of law enforcement and the judicial system. Barber was blessed with a lifelong romantic relationship with the composer Gian-Carlo Menotti, but due to the aforementioned dangers, the couple were never able to celebrate their love openly. I have often wondered if the Adagio for strings were Barber's expression of his sadness at the injustice of his situation.
Perhaps part but this song is not a rage against injustice it reaches to all sadness not just not his own. Yes the sadness of his life but not the harms of his life, yes the sadness of not being able to be open but not the anger against that. And thus the song transcends the issues that just affected his life. Just like when played in Platoon the song deals with the death not the tragedy of the war.
1ls376 the human being is a very deep creature, made up of specific feelings and thoughts to create a conscious and social being. These feelings vary from sadness, happiness, anger, etc.. we’re genetically programmed to feel these things and when something gives us so much of one of these, it becomes very beautiful and articulate, that it becomes something more than that feeling. It becomes you and therefore you chase it because it is truly beautiful.
This work makes us all torn, lost and full of hope and crying. MAN stop yor destruction NON PLEASE FOR MY DISABLED DAUGHTER-ROSE WHO SUFRES FROM THE WORLDS PLOUTION. STOP NOW SO SHEE CAN HAVE A FEW YEARS OF LIFE, PLEASE
Samuel Barber is what they call a one-piece-composer. His Adagio for strings is that one piece. It is pleasant, quite conventional and has a streak of sentimentality. There are commentators who put him on the same level with Mahler or Richard Strauss. Utter nonsense!
This song is the physical manifestation of “I won... But at what cost?...”
For me it is interpreted differently.
I see it as the almost sad peace that comes after forgiving yourself and letting go.
Being able to move on as you stare behind you realizing how much you missed because of your choices.
Regardless you are happy, the choices you made allowed you a good life after it all.
Won.......won what? It's the season's life, same as U/me
LEO's...... undifferentiated
Did NOT miss a thing!......just another phase in/of life!
To everything there is a season......a time to cry, a time to laugh...etc but if U reached thus far, it's true GRACE!

This song always takes me back to the platoon.
im torn between very peaceful, or very sad, but very beautiful
I'd go with the very sad, I heard his struggle wirth coming to terms with his sexuality is what inspired it.
Edward Crowden I was going to reference homeworld as evidence of the sadness, you make me feel like a horrible person
@@edwardhyd3 Certainly that and the seeds of the Depression that would consume him later in life. Many say the happy period of his life when he wrote this happy with his lover was a frantic effort on his part to put off This description of his true self.
Fighting back the feels... its not working... here come the tears :/
Thank you Warren. Your music-video moves into the realm of art. Your timing of the flowers in the 6-7 minute range is breath-taking. Thank you. I have watched this many times and continue to see new things, new timing transitions, new life each time. Just lovely. Thank you for your work in soothing a soul. Diana

Me gusta todo tipo de musica, pero no tenia oido para la selestial, hoy llegue al CIELO infinitas gracias, por estos inmensos instantes
Barber,
Both somber with hints of joy. restrained subdued tones that build into moments of great tension followed by release..The music is soothing, serene and uplifting.
Isto é fantástico, maravilhoso ....
Love it. If you do not like this, or appreciate it would be a better choice in word. Go dig a hole, in a rainy country. Then live in said hole until you appreciate this. Music now means nothing, once upon a time music meant something. This itself has been in several movies and games and has not lost its meaning.
My heart hears this song continually as I read the papers, watch the news, see our great nation fall...and I weep as an old, old man...of 53...
What a master piece of Samuel Barber. I loved this even before 11/09 which made this known.
gorgeous work of art and music. Samuel Barber is a God! I'm only 14 and I can understand the beautiful story through his music. Music like this only makes me believe in God and heaven even more than I already do!
The most beautiful music on earth!
legit chills every time i hear this.
Siempre lloro al escucharlo, creo que llega muy muy adentro de mi corazón ¡hermoso!
The most beautiful thing to come out of America.
despair not, my friend. From the ruins of an ancient sickness, (now coming to full fruition) a new way is rising... if we have the courage to face it.
The fact that such music can still move you to tears means all is not lost.
Favorite piece of Orchestral music
Thank you Johnny and Michael Thiess... this is the best gift you ever gave me.
This masterpiece is a panacea healing every mental sick
This very moving piece is such a compliment to that scene in the movie Platoon. It's haunting
and so memorible I can't hear enough.
That's a good question , thank you .
If this piece of music makes me sad, why do I keep listening?
Welcome to self-inflicted sadness.
It becomes you and therefore you chase it because it is truly beautiful.
this music is full of feeling stirs the emotions very expressive
It's beautiful. Even though it's sad, one cannot help but listen to this masterpiece.
Une des plus belles musiques du monde ! à chaque fois transportée quand je l'écoute, je pars, je vole...et votre vidéo est superbe ! merci
I love this Music !
It send me to the Angels...
