My teacher studied with Hirschorn, and when I first studied the 1st Concerto, he told me to look online for when Hirschorn absolutely brought down the house at the Queen Elizabeth Competition with his performance of the Sauret Cadenza in the 60s. I’ll never forget the majesty, the effortlessness of that performance!!! Amazing🤩
Fantastic! What an interesting exploration of Paganini's own expansion of the violin. I first heard Kreisler's version nearly 60 years ago on the radio and later acquired a recording that included a delightful interview with Ormandy. What a fantastic tribute to all. What
The Kreisler performance, while technically impressive, seems to have strayed a bit from the composer's original vision 😂 It maybe the audio but man the Kubelik performance was off tune especially the first quarter. Moments of brilliance and then an off note. But still, a huge thanks for sharing these gems with us! It’s so interesting to hear from both composer and their performance.
I know that is one more cadanze of Paganini's concert. It's so hard that even Kogan and Oistrakh rejected play it. This cadenze was wroted by sovetic violinist Gartovich. No one could play its - only Gertovich himself could. Thank you for the opportunity to hear the inimitable soulfulness of Kreisler's playing and the amazing playing of Kogan. They are both so different and unique
It’s such a fascinating juxtaposition the lovely sweet sound of Menuhin with the aggressive difficulty of the Suaret! I always love Menuhin’s “sighing” articulation, it makes me think of such tenderness and honesty with his playing. Also! I’ll be sure to email you again when I’m more free over winter break from college! I’d love to talk more!
@@violaisreallycool Thanks for the RUclips reply though! I'm glad to see that we're checking out the same vids! Menuhin was my idol growing up, and then alongside him I found younger people like Julian Rachlin, Maxim Vengerov, and Janine Jansen. For viola - the great Yuri Bashmet was/is my greatest violist inspiration alongside Menuhin, then came along Maxim Rysanov. :) In regards to the Sauret cadenza - although I like smooth and flowing, I actually don't mind if it's a bit rough. I like the idea that the soloist "breaks free" from Paganini's much-beloved cantabile style, and then the soloist just goes for it in the cadenza as a blend of "song" and technical prowess :) Have a nice time over the winter break Phetorics!
Wow. When you break it down - Kreisler's is the easiest! I haven't seen much of it. I usually teach my students Sauret or Wilhejm (with some cuts if necessary!) I like Sauret's the best!
Интересно, кто-нибудь отважится исполнить эту пятёрку комплектом на бис после окончания последней ноты этого феноменального Концерта?😃 Наверняка есть люди, кому и это по силам. Думаю, у Хилари Хан неплохо бы получилось😊

Kubelik’s tone and cadenza are beautiful! A very special composition

Спасибо вам за тёплые слова. В самом деле не всем дано услышать и окунуться в этот удивительный мир музыки.

Wow, very interesting! Do you happen to know anything about its whereabouts or any special features of it?
Thank you so much!!
Incredible Kreisler!
Glad you liked it!
9:59 - Sauret's (very difficult) cadenza was a piece of Menuhin at the time! Very lovely recording and we're lucky to have it! :)

That's actually not Paganini's writing, it is the Ševčík cadenza
