Hello beauties, I promised a pinned comment and update on the longevity of the Velveteen. On the day of the video and upload, it did not wear well. I feel that this was due to using the cleanser in between each application, so I wanted to give it a fair trial. Since then, I wore Fawn, and it lasted all day. I had a healthy dose of boba tea, and some pizza for dinner. The oiliness from the pizza did slightly remove the colour from the centre of my lip, but even so, it was fine and lasted well, considering. Additionally, my lips didn't crack; they didn't feel dry and it remained comfortably light. I would be interested to see if a bolder shade like Ribbon would last just as well, and I will certainly report back! I will also be doing a compare test to Violette FR and will update you as soon as I've had the chance. With many business meetings, and other events, a bold red/gothic lip is not my lip colour of choice, but as soon as an opportunity presents itself, it will be enthusiastically slapped on my lips 😉. Thoughts on the customer service Selfridges issue: We (loyal fans from the beginning of the brand) may begin to see these kinds of changes as her brand continues to get bigger I’m afraid. She will have less control as she partners with bigger companies who won’t be used to her standards of customer service- which she may have to sacrifice in order to reach a larger (international) audience. Selfridges actually allows some countries access to her products with cheaper shipping than she is able to offer on her own website…with point accumulation/loyalty program etc. So we shall see. I would like to see her stick to her own stores so she can control her business model more…but still a fan and watching from the US to see how she grows. 😊
I completely agree with everything you mentioned! I understand Lisa wanting to grow her company with the support of a big retailer like Selfridges but agree that the standards of customer service may fall. I said the same thing to a friend that I wished LE would just stick to boutiques as it’s a unique shopping experience, and the customer service would be more elevated. Stumbled upon your channel and I have to say, I absolutely admire your transparency and honesty. First things first, Dragon looks STUNNING on you!! Love it. Secondly, this appears to be a safe space and I've been curious whether others share my thoughts about Lisa Eldridge as a brand so I'll put this here. I've been a longtime follower of Lisa Eldridge and really appreciate her makeup philosophy and creative looks. While I've also enjoyed her products like the Face book, velvet lips, eyeshadow palettes and foundation, I must admit I'm a bit disheartened by the higher price point of her recent releases, particularly the cleanser. Ya gurl just ain't got that much spare adult monies for splurging.
What bothers me more is the hype marketing strategies LE team seem to have adopted. I say this with respect to Lisa's physical store launch where her IG story posts encouraged people to step in line early to get a free lippie shade exclusive to the store. I find these strategies encourage impulsive and thoughtless purchasing. It feels like a push to create urgency and a frenzy, rather than fostering a more mindful environment for beauty enthusiasts which I suppose I subconsciously expected of Lisa. It's frustrating to see the beauty industry perpetuating the "fear of missing out" (FOMO) mentality.
Anyway, thanks for providing a platform to openly share these concerns! Subscribed, and looking forward to exploring your content further.
Hello, firstly, I’m so thankful that you stumbled onto my channel! ☺️ Secondly, this is absolutely a safe space. It’s unrealistic to think any brand is perfect or won’t make mistakes. If brands want to grow and differentiate themselves from their competition, they should absolutely be willing to take on feedback.
I completely agree with you about the hype marketing. I’ve witnessed a change in her marketing style in recent times and especially only re-sharing comments or content that sucks up to her. I especially noticed this around her cleanser launch, where people acted like it changed their lives and paid their mortgages. I’m not slating it, but merely an observation.
As for the higher price point, I feel it’s justified if the product is wow, and the whole customer service surrounding the shopping experience is elevated. If not, it’s simply not worth the money.

I've been thinking about Rain and Muse in velveteen, but I've been waiting for reviews before buying. Because as you said, the shades on the website, and photos available pre-launch are not really accurate. Thanks for this video! Still loving the Rain ☺️

Great video! It was super helpful to see the color comparisons with the original Velvets, I would’ve thought they’d be the same but in some cases I feel like some of the Velveteens looked a bit darker and warmer. I’ve also been a fan of Lisa’s for a very long time and I appreciate your honesty, it’s quite unfortunate that you’ve had a couple of bad experiences because I agree one of the best parts of her brand is the amazing online customer service that she usually has. Hopefully they’ll take your feedback into consideration and improve their in-store service & overall service as they continue to grow. I think Rain is such a great colour on you (as expected), and Dragon is my other favourite on you - it looks so good! I think with cool vs warm tone thing, it isn't that a warm colour won't look good on someone with cool undertones (and vice versa), it's just that if it's not the same undertone it might be less harmonious and natural looking for you, so it would be more of a 'Look', a statement, than a colour that is in your palette. I believe Lisa's actually said this in her videos before.
I want to see them in person before buying, so I'll check them out in Selfridges. I think her team said they launch there this Friday so I might go next week. I'm more intrigued by the darker colours as those are the shades I want to be indelible so I don't have to babysit them all night to make sure they aren't all over my face. I'll be trying out Dragon, and even though I will 100% look like a ghostly 20s silent movie actress, Jazz.
How do these compare to the Violette FR Petal Bouche?
And the question I always ask: Can you wear an untinted lip balm over them without breaking down the colour?
Hi Chloe 🙋🏻♀️ As always, I love your in-depth comments! I know what you mean about tones, but it depends because whilst some colours suit the person less, in other cases, it really does clash and doesn’t work at all. Tones aren’t a manual to life 😂 but for sure, people harp on about it for a reason.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts once you visit the store and see the colours in the flesh, so to speak!
Sometimes darker/statement shades can be more work and harder to babysit or maintain, especially if you’re going out to dine! I think you should try them all as you might be surprised. Be sure to go to a window though as the LE counter is hidden away where there’s no natural light.
I tried the balm underneath and on top whilst using it as a stain, and it lasted perfectly all day. I haven’t tried it on top of a full power pout, but I will be sure to try this out soon!

This is so helpful since we have similar skin tones and I find that we aren't always represented as those of us who are fair and olive leaning. I am with you the swatches on different skin tones ahead of the sale would be amazing. I always wait to make my purchase because of that. Blush looks so gorgeous on you - I want to get muse as I think that would be my best shade and perhaps rain its so pretty!

I think I’ll try fawn, I love the lipstick and know it’s so easy to wear. Historically I avoid liquid mattes but I trust your opinion, im excited for this launch 👌🏽

I was so waiting for you to upload a video about the Velveteen! Your videos are the most detailed, honest, elegant and valuable. If I were Lisa - I would want you on my team ASAP! I'm sure the problems you described wouldn't exist if you were part of her team. You have a deep understanding not only of makeup, but also customer service, marketing and business understanding. Personally, I did not order anything because I live in Israel and specifically the shipping from Lisa's website is very expensive, so since I purchased Affair almost two years ago, I have not made another purchase from her. Ribbon looks fabulous on you. That’s your red. Brings out the natural pink flush in your cheeks. Beautiful. If you compared screen shots with dragon you’ll see the difference. Obviously you can still wear dragon if you change the the blush and wear warm shirt etc. But the the cool red is so good with your crisp white/cool shirt!

@majbritchristensen9211 On the day I filmed the video, not well. I think it might be all the removing and re-trying on and perhaps the cleanser in between applications. I have since worn it another day and it lasted pretty well, until I ate an oily pizza but that’s inevitable 😄♥️

I think affair looked fantastic on you - it looked cooler tone brown-ish to me - or neutral brownish at best - maybe it’s the lighting or maybe it pulled cooler on your skin tone - but on video it looked great - I literally thought right before you said that cool tones look good on you, I thought “oo, that looks coolish light brown and looks really good on her” - I have issues with warm browns on my lips, but any subtle shift can make a big difference between “that looks nice” or “that looks meh” - so I’m up in the air about getting that color for myself

Hey! I think Dragon actually really suit your complexion! Even though you have visible pink tone, i think i can see a hint of yellow? Especially on your neck? Maybe it’s just me.
And what you said about the service thing, it’s so understandable yet so frustrating! I’ve been following her online for almost a decade too. I was literally a child and learned makeup from her. Even though i’ve never bought any of her products (still a broke uni student on the other side of the world), i guess it’s to be expected with the expansion of the brand. But your frustration is totally justified. So don’t feel guilty about that.

All those shades look great on you! I wish she had done morning instead of dragon. I love how brightning morning is. Anyway, I got rain right away but my sister stole it xD so I had to re buy it with ribbon and affair! I love Affair gloss as a top up over darker colours. It goes so well with reds to hydrate them.

@@theeditbydh got it today and I am more than impressed. I got many of Lisa’s Lipsticks but unfortunately most of the colors do not suit me very well (I am so pale with a bit of redness in my skin, a 4 in her foundation). However Rain stands out. It’s not too warm but also not too cold, not too pinky not to brown. It’s summery and fresh and doesn’t clash with the redness in my skin - or my hair 😂
Amazing video! I can totally relate you regarding giving feedback to businesses that we respect and support. It takes time and effort on our part to make that feedback happen, and it would've been great if the LE customer service team could've responded more promptly and with more sincerity. You're clearly such a loyal fan of the brand and I trust your judgement regarding this new launch! I thought you looked lovely in all of them! Affair and Dragon looked great too, especially Affair. I can’t decide which shades I’m going to try. I’m an older dame so I’m a little more concerned about my lip lines. 💄💄💄💄
Hi Tricia, thank you so much for your compliment! Do you mean the lip lines on your lips or around your mouth? If so, I don’t think you need to worry because on your lips, the colour sort of blurs. As for around the mouth, the colour doesn’t ‘bleed’ outside of the lip contours (if you know what I mean). The Nars one I mentioned I used to wear, used to bleed terribly into my lip lines (as I have very dry skin), and it was a headache but this one doesn’t do that. Love you video! Thank you, it really helps me decide on the shades. Love your final thoughts and comments at the end of the video too. I suffer from dry and cracked lips in the past, then I changed my toothpaste to a foamless one. It’s usually a “natural” toothpaste with no SLS or fluoride. My lips have never cracked since, and my teeth and gums have been healthy every year at my dental check. Commercial toothpaste is very harsh.
Hello! Oooh that’s so interesting, thanks for sharing! I will definitely look into that because it’s the first time I’ve heard of this. Hello, I was meant to do a wear test update after the video but in honesty, it didn’t wear well that day. I think it was due to the constant removing and re-trying on. Plus, maybe it had something to do with using the cleanser in between each application 🤔 Anyway, since then, I’ve worn it again and it lasted well but less so when obviously eating oily food like pizza. I will do a more substantial update on this soon. Thank you for watching and commenting! ♥️♥️♥️

I’m so sorry that the launch wasn’t handled well. That’s really a shame. And that you had to chase after them to even reply to your feedback I find shocking given how good their customer service usually is. I’m afraid they are spreading themselves too thin. I hope this isn’t a trend that will continue. It’s not Lisa herself, obviously, but it does reflect poorly on her company and thus on her.

Thanks for this video, I know it was a ton of work, thank you for going to the trouble and expense 🙂 I love liquid lipstick and have found a drugstore brand a few years back that is super comfortable and of course lasts ALL day so that is my everyday go to! I was excited about Lisa’s collection but only ended up liking Dragon and velvet ribbon…to me the other colors were not only all way warmer than their counterparts, but somehow similar looking…is that just me? I will probably get dragon though. And I do adore Lisa 🙂❤⭐
Hello, thanks so much for acknowledging the work that goes into filming and editing 😅😘 I know what you mean about the similarities. However, there is enough of a difference to warrant a purchase. For example, I prefer the Velveteen Ribbon to the Velvet Ribbon. Although the difference is subtle, it complements my skin tone more. Hello, I would only recommend them if you’re into liquid lipsticks. I know people have a love/hate relationship with liquid lips. If you enjoy them, then yes, I would recommend them as they’re one of the most comfortable liquid lips I’ve tried, and the colours are slightly different to the Velvet lipsticks, even with the same names. If you dislike liquid lips, LE could directly apply them to your lips, and you’d still hate them 😂 I hope that helps, and thanks for watching! ♥️♥️♥️

Sooooooooo strange you said this about the Selfridges experience. I went to her pop up at Manchester. If you wanted to meet her at the Manchester pop-up, you had to book a ticket because her pop-up was irritatingly outside of the shop.
I went with my mum and we queued, which was fine, but we had to wait longer because a gang of influencers came out from the shop to take photos of the pop-up stall and they spent a lot of time doing a lot of posing and holding honest customers up. They were swanning around with their PR bags. Which turned most of those waiting in the queue into Karens 😂
When we got to the counter, my mum and I got so much help from her lovely assistants (even managed to find my Uber pale mum a foundation shade that matched).
As we were leaving, we saw Lisa and my mum went up to her to ask her about her cats and her tv series, I think she would have happily spoken for hours to us but we did get some dirty looks from onlookers because we spoke to her without getting a ticket 😂
I think you’re right, I wonder if it was Selfridges that added chaos to the shopping experience if that makes sense? I have no complaints about her retail team. It just sadly, seemed a bit convoluted and disorganised.
Side note, I think a lot of the colours you said didn’t suit you, looked lovely on you. Not sure if I will try her Velveteen range though, as somebody who has eczema on her lips, liquid lipsticks, regardless of how many hydrating ingredients are within the formula, will never flatter me.

I know what you mean, I don’t have eczema on my lips but I do have eczema. It usually means a lot of dryness and texture around my mouth. Liquid lips will always be matte no matter what ingredients they put in it but it’s more hydrating than most liquid lips on the market. I hope that helps! ♥️♥️♥️
So, please, how does it wear? I'm not a fan of liquid lipstics, but with some bolder colors, if it wears great, it might be worth considering.
By the way, for cool skinned people should be cooler colors best. I can't say Your coloring on my screen (I remember You were 7 in LE foundation, I'm 6, so I use You as comparison of darknes of the lipstics for me 😊) but what can I say, You need brighter colors, not muted. Than You for this video! ❤

I had the same problem with the box being open when arrived.It seems like the glue strap doesnt adhere properly to the cardboard.V.strange.

you seem to be a cool winter/bright winter person in color analysis. So, deep, bright, or light pastel colors will suit you. As long as it's a true chroma. That's why Lisa's Velvet Dragon looks good on you, in spite that it's a warm red. Also, Velvet Affair may be dark in tone but it still is muted and grey. It is not a true chroma, so that's why the color does not convince you.

Hi Karen, yes, it didn’t wear well on the day of the video. I think it’s down to the constant use of cleanser in between and reapplying etc. I’ve since worn Fawn all day and it lasted but I think I will try a bolder colour next time like Ribbon for example! Thanks so much for watching! ♥️♥️♥️

Hello again 🙋🏻♀️ That’s strange as it should have lasted several hours at the very least. Did you apply a lip balm or something oily underneath? Or on top? Did you eat something after first applying it? If not, the colour shouldn’t budge. Also, after first applying, try to leave it to dry fully before doing anything else. ♥️♥️♥️
