Lisa Eldridge: An artist who has studied the history of her craft so carefully that she can use all of that knowledge to hone her craft today. Is that why her looks can look gorgeously modern and yet timeless at the same time?? What a rare gem she is!! Just spendid.
Please say you will have more episodes!! I watched them when they came out a few years ago and they were so great! I love, love history and makeup, so the history of makeup is extra cool! ❤
Makeup history is a subject that has for far too long been overlooked as “unimportant” or “superficial” simply because it was associated with women, but Lisa’s series really proves what a significant role it played in the social, cultural and even political history of the last 1000+ years. Bravo Lisa! Looking forward to more!
Wayne Goss has a white foundation. I used it as Halloween makeup last year and wore it all over my face. It was wonderful! No lead poisoning and it made my skin so conditioned by the end of the day. I absolutely love this documentary series you did. So interesting. And your book is the perfect companion.
I loved this series and excited to watch it again! I'm 31 years old and finally have gathered the courage to go back to college to do makeup artistry, you've inspired me for years now! Xx
As a chemist & historical costumer, specifically georgian times, I have replicated many recipe's on make up I have found. One on make up particularly states to focus on the undertone & mix a hint of pigment in, so look lively. & the reproduction of that recipe was the most breath taking foundation formula, color & look I have ever seen. I could not believe my eyes. It was naturally silky, slightly peachy/rose & reflected light as if you wore a lovely, LOVELY natural highlighter. The texture was comfortable & light, it was not very expensive to make. Was a bit drying though. And awfully deadly. But LORD that make up was astonishing. A university in the US has recreated the same recipe & when I did, I nearly cried, it was so beautiful.
Love this series! Lisa's curiosity and excitement is contagious. Are there any makeup historians making videos about the aesthetics of cultures outside of Europe?
Besides the incomparable Lisa, you might like Erin Parsons Makeup. She’s equally obsessed with makeup history and collecting historical and vintage bits and bobs, and she does some fun videos where she makes ancient makeup out of original ingredients. I think she’s done videos about the Egyptians, the Babylonians and Neanderthals? Lisa is the GOAT, of course, but Erin is a master as well. The two are my favorite historical beauty personalities.
Wow! I didn’t know I needed this series but I do ! The efforts and research put into it ! Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us I’m very thankful
I was so excited when I saw this video! I have your book displayed on my bookshelf because you were the first person to get me interested in the history of cosmetics. It is so fascinating, and I agree that it tells just as much about history and culture as art, architecture, cuisine, etc, I hope you make more! ❤
In just 10 minutes, I think this is the best documentary I've ever seen. Loved loved loved it! Fascinating, immersive and educational. Watching this really made my day ❤👏
I’ve always appreciated your love for history of makeup and have seen how it influences your current choices as well. You makeup skills are a testament to your in depth knowledge of the subject. Looking forward to the remaining episodes 🩶
So interesting that Erin Parson’s work in studying lead makeup uncovered to a totally different look that seems to debunk the white paint theory (not all all opaque, actually quite sheer and blurring).
I’m so happy you uploaded this, I love your makeup history videos sooo much!! And WOW, congratulations!! This is a whole new level, incredibly cool. So many fascinating facts. Thank you for sharing 🙌🏼♥️
So glad you made this. I have been waiting for someone to do a piece (or even better a series!) on the history of makeup. It is so interesting how it ties lifestyle and technology over time. It ties it all together (somewhat like ceramics has done for me too). Thank you!!
This was so fascinating! I have been studying The Elizabethan Era forwards. Just read all I could find on Christopher Marlowe his mysterious death & his ties to Elizabeth I and The School of Night! I have always been fascinated with Hollywood Makeup Artists & Designers of the Studio Era! I hope this isn't the end & only episode #1 I have a collection of vintage makeup & am looking forward to TCM / Julians auction " From Princess Di" to Audrey Hepburn's pink Givenchy dress, to items fromp Bogart & Bacall!
You are so talented! Also appreciate that you not only are a makeup artist but teach about how makeup was made in different eras and how it was used which is very educational to this generation as we don’t know much about what the historical era used or how their cosmetics effected their skin ❤ I love watching your videos
This is fantastic! I hope there are more, I love this history. And Lisa is a wonderful presenter. I love that she is a master and can have the lead paint made up, and then recreate its qualities for the same effect 💛
History has so many lessons. I love this series, thank you. The white made me think of mineral sunscreen. Though there are tinted sunscreens, many of us still wear a zinc based sunscreen, I'm planning my fall/winter complexion now. Maybe there is a way to make mineral sunscreen modern and beautiful, I like it's texture and zinc is good for the skin. We'll see. Thanks Lisa!
Love this video! Found it fascinating! Not only is Lisa a talented makeup artist but she takes the time to really understand the science and history of makeup! She’s the best. I could watch a full documentary 👍
So excited about this video! I have your book but would love more visuals and explanation of the history, purpose, and evolution of makeup. I can’t wait for the next in the series! 🙌❤️🙌
Fascinating! I appreciate your curiosity, Lisa. I’ve always wondered what made so many continue wearing this. I don’t think it would be worth it at all but there is no doubt that it was popular. I love the end of Dangerous Liaisons when Glen Close is wiping off her makeup and you see her suffering skin. Not the only thing about that character that was sufferable but it illustrated the catch 22 perfectly. Once you started wearing it frequently you couldn’t stop.
So interesting... thank you for a fabulous video 😍. Look forward to the rest of the series. Oh, and I'm very envious of your vintage make-up collection!!!
Not only very interesting information, but also it's a treat for the eyes, beautifully filmed and edited! Looking forward to watch more! I must admit, that I'm lucky not to have that toxic lead make up at the reach of my hand, because I'm too curious for my own good and would like to test at least a tiny bit of it xD
Lisa: congratulations✨ Very interesting video, your investigations completely eye openers 🤓 They help to reflect upon what we expose to in order to look good and fit in, what is still toxic in our lives and, nevertheless, we still practice or use it. Food for thought. You always radiant and your clothing so classy 🌷 More of this, please! 🌻

I just spent 2 hours binging English Heritage videos on the past Queens' makeup looks, and then Lisa releases this. She just gets her audience
