This is absolutely fantastic!! I wish you could see what I looked like doing my highlights in the back... big mistake.. even with thirty mirrors, just yeah, I wish I'd watched this video back then, but I've now saved this to my DIY list, for the next time I need to touch up, because, although you mentioned how hard it is, even just to fold the up the foils, I was like "girl, you read my mind." I'm not licensed, but my sister is, and has been doing my hair for years, wanted to teach myself how to do it alone, and I'm so glad I've gone on this DIY journey.. Learning something new, and not having to dependent all the time on someone to help, it's a great feeling.. I love how you think your video is long... I recorded myself doing the "just" the top section, not the sides, just top, and my video is 2 hr and 45 min LOL..
I just did my hair, and I got to the same point!! And said the hell with the foils and just started painting on my sections. The foils is what makes it so hard to do on self!! Whewww
Girl I’m a stylist in the US and lemme tell you.. the struggle was real. I was so lucky to have a friend/client who worked at a local beauty supply… but even now, stock is so low still ! Totally appreciate this process being such a pain in the ass and ya don’t quite realize til ur in way too deep 😂
That's how I am doing my high lights right now, my 16-year-old girl helped me and a little but it takes too long now I have to finish alone thanks for your video it cheered me up again 😃😁
@@leahrodriquez1349 I’m just guessing here… haha.. from what I could tell, I would guess a very light brown or a dirty blonde, but that level will always look darker when it’s at the root, especially with blonde highlights 👱🏽♀️ 😍

So using redken/wella liquid toners with a developing solution of that strength, doesn’t make where your natural hair colour meets the bleached areas a little orangey/brassy? Always worried it would have a little bit of lift !
Redken Shades EQ Solution doesn’t lift. It contains only 2% hydrogen peroxide (7 volume), typically used for glazes and toners = ‘deposit only’ results. Wella T18 is a different thing, because it comes with a stronger developer. It can make pale yellow hair a brighter, ash blonde colour but I wouldn’t use it on bayalage/highlights because 20 volume can make your natural hair orangey/patchy.
@@lillacsizmadia2531 I know this is a couple of years late but Wella do a range of toners other than T18. T18 is something else. Wella toners are usually in their Colour Touch range and are used with 1.9%, 3% or 4%. And just like all toners they only deposit colour, they dont lift. A good example is Colour Touch 10/81 and 1.9%. X
Question : I used to be blonde, 6 months ago I asked my hairdresser for my "natural brunette" color. She didn't dye my hair too dark so I could still deside afterwards (go darker or not). Now my hair is graduate washing out and my mid section and ends are golden, like a ombre. I really need to color soon to refresh. I have decided to go back to blonde and going to attempt highlight myself, since I'm on a budget😅. Can I bleach the midsection again to lift evenly? Or only my outgrowth? Appreciate any tips❤
Wow your hair looks so beautiful! I'm going to try this at home. I only need to do a few scattered foils around the front hairline and top area to fill the patches left behind by the hairdresser who didn't do a very good job on my full head of foils at all. Could I just apply the bleach solution randomly onto some strands of hair or would it be best to still do foils regardless of how few I need?
18:10 I am like how the heck can she see that piece? Im going to have to setup all my mirrors and put in contacts for this affair haha thank you for the video.
great video and beautiful result, thank you! (btw, I'm not a professional, but have been doing this on myself for some time - not easy and time-consuming, I agree)
You folded the previous beached hair on top of the freshly bleached area. A fold should have been made on the previously bleached hair and the another separate fold from there up to the newly bleached hair.
Hello Steph! Thank you for this video! Can I just ask, is this your natural hair? Or do you color the base? My problem with doing highlights on my colored hair is that every time I wash it off in sections, bleach touches my colored locks and makes a total mess out of my base color making it orange😩
Hey Alla, yes this is my natural hair, I do not colour my base I am a natural brown base shade 6. You need to be careful when you apply bleach to the foils so it doesn’t leak out on to the base (slightly thicker consistency of bleach is better for preventing this) Also remove foils quickly and carefully making sure none of the bleach touches your other hair. Your bleached hair must be touching you other hair which you will need to prevent to stop it transferring. I hope this help x

Just did this process today .. whew my arms are burning !! Lol a little goes a long way thow .. great video the struggle is real esp the 2 back foils ..
creasing the bottom of the foil makes uneven banding in lightener-- it's a bad habit. to do your own hair you can use short papers with no need to bend or fold just be sure they are the exact length and simply stack them. You use more and your hair has no bands.
It isn’t a developer necessarily, the redken shades EQ needs to be used with the redken processing solution. I believe it’s realistically about a 7vol developer equivalent but it’s super not recommended to use anything other than the officials processing solution.
Your hair is beautiful ☺️ by the way... when you fold the section up on itself the blonde ends are being bleached too as they are touching the top section 😬😬 I have a home highlighting video including back of my own head. I’m not a professional. Check it out xx

Isn't balayage supposed to grow out gradually and seamlessly...I think this would show a growth line after a few weeks and it looks more like highlights not a balayage. Reason I'm here is because I'm trying to fix my own balayage after my stylist not doing it properly...I mean she did but didn't neutralise my old growth line and the toner doesn't show, it just looks exactly like it did before I had anything done so it was just a very expensive process for looking like the emperor's clothes ..she swears my balayage is there but bo one apart from her can see it 😄
I Personally don’t think so, the balayage colouring technique is used on every section and then the hair is placed in foils as it isn’t free hand bleach I’m using.
