    Excellent job ladies! However, I would have refused to sign anything - iPad or forms - describing what I was NOT buying. I would only sign for what I WAS buying.

    I went in to see a 21500 used car. The dealer offered 750 a month for 60 months before even running my credit. I kept asking about otd, but they had the numbers ready by the time I was done with the drive
    Car dealerships should be illegal

    Take your time reading the paperwork, don't let anyone rush you.
    Get copies of everything you sign.
    Be prepared to walk out if any nonsense add-ons are added in.
    Make them explain everything in detail, even if you already know the answer.
    Do you're research before heading to the dealership.
    Print out everything you need beforehand so you have it ready.
    Bring a real calculator with you to run the numbers, not from your phone.

    If it's legal in your state, have an audio recorder running while you are at the dealership. Don't let something this expensive be dependent upon "he said, she said". There are 39 states where you can legally audio record an in-person or phone conversation without notifying the other parties (Michigan is among them).

    That finance character's leaving in the fee for the LoJack despite the customer's insistence that it wasn't wanted reminds me of the fictional shady car salesman Jerry Lundegaard in the movie Fargo when he snuck in the charge for the Tru-Coat even though he had led that unfortunate couple to believe that it would not be included as an add-on with the car purchase. That was a great job by Jackie and Cathy sticking it to that unscrupulous dealership, and a hearty thanks is owed to them for sharing their story. Undoubtedly, it will serve an excellent tutorial for many vehicle buyers to learn from and follow.

    Great story and video, but eventually I had to stop watching -- that horrid music bed was far too obnoxious and distracting. Why is this necessary? This is a great story, easily carried by the spoken word itself. No trash background noise needed.

    Quick question! Did you follow up with a complaint to the FTC on that dealership? If they did that to you, most certainly they have done it to many others. Would that not warrant an investigation by the FTC!! I am so glad that you had a positive outcome, awesome job!! And a big shout out to The Homework Guy channel. I have been a follower for a couple of years now!

    I'm a senior and when I retired I gave my vehicle to my granddaughter who was attending college who by the way just graduated and she's not even 21 yet.
    I thought I could get along without a vehicle but decided I needed one.
    I found one listed for 4990.
    I was approved for financing & on the application I put I was going to do a thousand down. When I spoke to the woman over there she stated the lender wants 1800 down I said okay no problem. I told her I didn't renew my driver's license that I'd have to go do that but I wanted to come down and look at the vehicle. She told me that would be another $300 on top of it because of that.
    Then she told me my payments would be $280 a month. I said my God what is the bottom line then she said there is none I said forget it and I hung up. I did a review on them and stated they are crooks and they took it down.
    The vehicle listed was approximately 1500 under the actual retail price of it.
    Is there anything more I can do? I was thinking about having a friend call up there and seeing what they tell them as far as the price goes. Please advise

    That was awesome! My daughter just bought a new 2024 suv with a total down payment of 7,000 and we do not see where the down payment shrunk the final price. She signed a bunch of papers one being that nothing extra was added 🤷‍♀️. So she signed all these papers and only has one where she can get her plates. I was like where’s the contract? Well I feel they took advantage and added things she knows nothing about.

      There's little doubt they stole her deposit. Have you got the guts to go back there and make them eat their illegal stunt?

      @@KevinHunter I do I hope she does. Her cash down payment was 2,000 plus a 5,000 gmc friends and family discount. Only the 2,000 was applied which was shown on one of the forms but not the 5,000 gmc credit. I should’ve clarified that in my comment. Even with the 2,000 that was eaten up somehow to where it looks like she didn’t put anything down. From my calculation her final price would be around 21-22,000. The suv was 26,000 +. The final price with financing is 25,000+. So it looks like nothing was applied to it.

    I'm surprised it was a Toyota dealership but then again, I'd write a letter to the CEO of Toyota Corp. in Japan!! You'd be surprised how corporate deals with shady dealerships at Toyota!!!!

    That was bada$$. Great work, ladies! WTH is up with Toyota dealers these days? I saw a terrible deal on a new Corolla with a $5,995 ADM and $2,995 for a “mandatory” Pro Pack, which is upholstery protection and GPS recovery service. OTD=$39,500. Fortunately, the buyer (not me!) up and left.

    I've been watching a lot of your videos lately. Thanks for all the valuable content!
    All the videos of yours that I've seen assume there's only one buyer, but my experience has been that my wife and I go car shopping together. We're both interacting with the salesmen at the same time, so it changes the dynamic somewhat. I'm the kind of person that prepares ahead for things as much as possible (clearly, since I watch your channel!) but my wife not so much - she has an idea of what type of car she wants, but that's as far as she goes. I ask her to let me do the talking, which ends up annoying her. She eventually answers salesmen questions or makes a comment, but not the way that I would which ends up annoying me. Maybe you've already covered the "2 buyer" dynamic in a video?
    I heard that salesman in this situation tend to ignore the woman. That hasn't really been my experience though.

    For every Jackie and Cathy, there are so many people who only care about monthly payments. Hopefully people wake up and push back on car dealers more. If only car dealers could be fair, reasonable, and still run successful businesses. This story is so inspiring, and shows that consumers CAN push back and still have rights under the law. I sense a local THG chapter in Michigan in the near future.

    My wife bought a new Ford from San Tan Ford in Gilbert AZ. In 2015
    We were offered an extended warranty which we declined. The finance person then gave us the warranty for free. He lied and hid the warranty for which we were charged. We went back and had this warranty charge reimbursed. After this another customer told me he got a Free extended warranty. I warned him to read the contract carefully.

    I work for a dealership, we don't use door guards, add ons etc, we just have a doc fee. Thats it.

    Kevin, Elizabeth, love what you do- but TV stations to state legislatures have been making attempts on those clowns since they sold wagons and tried to overprice the buggy whips. Don't let me stop you- not even the financials of 2008 and the closure of several hundred dealerships have to date encouraged the largest part of them to reform. This Toyota Dealer may be in for even ruder shocks if the rumors I seen of Toyota deciding to take their US marketing back come to fruition; Toyota's sales operate very differently in Japan, are very client oriented, none of this "fleece 'em while you got 'em" crap. There are a few very profitable American dealerships doing this as a client relationship already, but there are too many of the old style blackguards still out there- criminal penalties and sanctions will be needed before many of them recant or at at least relent. My answer has always been to walk out with the promise that I will pass along my poor experience at least several thousand times' it has yet to bankrupt any of them, but it does make me feel my time there was not entirely wasted,
