Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
I love the foreman he’s always a pleasure to see. Brings back memories of when my boys were young. He’s getting tall too. The foreman is right you need to take a break and enjoy life. I love this swing.
You should team up with a food youtuber to make Zip, Zap, Soup. I don't know what would go in it, but it already sounds yummy.
I built a barn door for my wife’s office and burnt it like this. First time I ever tried that method. I was shocked how good it looked. Great video as usual. And it’s a really cool swing.
Step 1 of this project is have a porch. I will continue the project once that step is done. Also, a couple drink holders on the arms would be ideal. Need a place for the bourbon or iced tea if it ever shows up.
I love your simplistic method of measuring and marking. I am an engineer and have a tendency of falling into analysis-paralysis.
Also your foreman is awesome.
I swear I looked for a porch swing video for 6 months, couldn’t find a good one, and bought one two weeks ago. Along comes this doode
That porch swing is beautiful! Love the burn look.
Thank you!
Nice build, I love the shou sugi ban process and the long torch hooking up to your propane tank is great for it! Keep up the nice work as the goal is to continue to inspire others. 👍🏼
Fantastic project Jason! Thanks for sharing
I fell asleep watching RUclips last night, unlocked my phone and saw you holding the flame thrower and immediately clicked. I don't even know what I'm about to watch, what day of the week it is or anything but let's gooooo
I made one like this. I saw jay bates make a few years ago. Very nice! I love mine.
Love this need two for the front porch just longer. But that’s a easy fix. Thanks
Great job as always. For installing the eye bolts, I've used a ratchet wrench with a long socket as a handle to just spin them in place. Works great.
It looks amazing! Gorgeous design and build!!
Awesome job man you really inspired me to start making my own projects thank you and keep it up
excellent woodworker, sympathetic, cool, funny, thoroughbred genius 👍👍👍Best regards from Cologne, Germany
You are truly a legend, Jason. An epic woodworker and one hell of a teacher! Discovered you a couple of days ago and you have quickly become one of my favourite RUclipsrs!!
I live in one of the most remote corners of the world, 500 miles to the nearest town and 600 miles from the nearest city… so my access to timber is pretty limited, but am going to attempt this project over the weekend with scrap wood… may be a challenge!! 🤣🤣 thanks for the inspiration!
Hey Jason, I love the shou sugi ban process, but you broke my heart by scorching that beautiful Sapele. I recently finished some mid-century modern slatted porch columns for our ranch house and the iridescence of the finished Sapele is stunning in the sunlight.
Thank you for sharing your expertise
The torch that Harbor Freight sells (for like $20) works extremely well for this technique.
Muy buen trabajo felicitaciones 👍👍👍👍
Saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾
I was just looking online for one of these, then all of a sudden the RUclips notification popped up. You must have known I was looking for one 🤣
That exact same thing happened with his clamp cabinet. Spooky haha 💀
Great build and video!Im definitely building the porch swing! Its awesome!
For eye bolts I use a solid ratchet that fits and a long extension. Hold the extension and use the ratchet to spin it.
Sometimes I get lucky and find a socket that fits on the outside the bolt lol
Sho shougi ban takes away your FAVORITE Woodworking task, though!! There as NO sander, in the video, at all!!
Great project. Nice idea sir. Congratulations.👍
That's one cool addition to your home. Congrats.
Love it! The hook trick will work if you use a bigger hook.
While I have enjoyed these for the better part of a year they just got more impressive as I have started my wood working journey. Good grief I can’t even measure correctly. Keep up the good work and I look forward to learning more from you.
Sure do enjoy some Saturday morning Bourbon!
That looks awesome. Look your work.
Nice design. Sho Sugi Ban is mesmerizing. I did my 6' horizontal cedar fence 🔥
The screw hook to closed eyelet trick totally works. Caveat is counter pull back force to prevent your wrists from being broken or hardware ruined-kinda not kidding. Been using that method for more than 10 years
Just saw the porch swinging chair, looks good, great finish too.
I like the voice over.😀
Sweet finish
That was a darn cool project! I can't afford even a quarter of that Sapele, but I think I'm going to give this or the chairs you did the other day a shot in a less-awesome wood. xD
Beautiful design. Half lap joints are great.
Half laps... Yeah! especially since the joints are completely open after he burned them🤣🤣. Its fun to watch all these hobby carpenters fuck up their own projects, cause they have seen the latest woodworking trends on YT. Fun and a nice project dont get me wrong here, but why the burning? Its the same thing as with all these slab and epoxy pours. Dont anyone have any ideas of their own?? Regards from a professional cabinet maker.
@@henriks5008 Negative comments are fun for you? Maybe find a new hobby?
@@skiblink LOL😅 When reality gets someone confused and they call it negative. Wake up and smell the coffee mister! Not everyone can like what you make. And...Yeah those lap-joints where destroyed by the burning. If you cant take a professionals advice, maybe YOU should get a new hobby?
@@skiblinkhe's a professional though.
Loved the video, excellent result. Never mind iced tea, you deserve a bourbon 🥃🌞
looks great 👍 good ole screwdriver trick. that's what I always used or a crescent wrench.
Beautiful work!
Awesome job Jason! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 .... Although I've yet to try AG1, I have tried similar products and besides for shaking, I highly recommend using a cordless milk frother.... 😉
Steel wool works really well too instead of the wire brush
Room for all three of you on that beauty!
just found this guy and had to subscribe his voice is chill
Love the swing, I am a wood worker and professional Carpenter and I worked for Callahan Furniture, in Cross Plains, Texas. We built our swings different than yours and we had cup holders, the top and bottom supports were cut at a 18 degree angle. The lap joints were cut on a Radial arm saw with a dad blades with all blades to make up 3/4" in width. And the eye bolts were only 3/4 " diameter. And your eye bolts are over kill, that's why your hook kept coming off. Love everything you build Jason and your channel rocks.
I loved this build if I would build this 1 thing I'll do different is leave the slats natural thing the color of the wood against the chard will be beautiful
Omg this has to be your favorite project......NO SANDING!!😁😁
Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!!
"and I got a six-pack... of beer. Because doing this made me thirsty." This commentary is what made me subscribe. 🤣
Sketch up has a compass tool that will provide angles, then you'd need a compass of your own, they make digital ones, they look like two rulers attached to a pivot point
Can’t wait to see what you are going to use those deluxe panel clamps for!?!
To turn the eye bolts, use a ratcheting wrench backwards (socket as handle, handle through eye).
Jim Gaffigan, if he knew woodwork. The resemblance is uncanny!
ah just in time for grilling season. i will say I prefer my porch swings medium well but I think this will work
Great job
I am supposed to go to bed now but I can't not watch a new Bourbon Moth episode. Guess I'm staying up.
You should try structural torx head screws instead of lag bolts they are a bronze color and not such a big head sticking out with sharp edges.
Charring the wood also prevents rotting as well as making it more water resistant and insect resistant
wow nice good job 👍👍👍👌👌👌
Loved the angle change during your sip of AG1 🤣
The foreman is just like one of my grandkids. Cute kiddo.
Love it man 👊
Beautiful porch swing. You might have to remove the bottom back slat so that you can tie some seat cushions to the back easier.
Dude you rock!
Zip zap zoop needs to be trademarked! Would love to see merch with that on it
Very nice and I like the boy visit you, so sweet 😇thanks.
Legend has it he still never got that ice tea
Totally expected you to come back on the toy swing with ice cream or something at the beginning. Great video as always
Zip zap zzzzzzoop, gotta love the classics looks good. 👌
When the Bourbon Moth Zip Zap Zoop shirt going to be available???? I feel like I needed it yesterday
The heat of charring sets the wood resins, the same principle works for the ladies when they have their nails done and they get theirs set in the UV lamp.
Actually, the proper reading of the Japanese characters for that particular finishing technique is “yaki sugi”. The character for “cook” can be read “sho”, like you said, but in this case it’s just read as “yaki”. The same as “yaki-niku”, which means “cooked meat” (barbecue).
The “sugi” part means “cedar”, and traditionally this technique was used to add extra protection to the wood (cedar) siding of traditional homes.
“Ban” is just a suffix that means “board”.
So in this case you’re doing a “Yaki-Sugi” finishing method. Pretty cool, by the way.
Great video, great plan. As a suggestion, recommend trying springs on your swing chain. Adds another level to your porch swing sitting....LOL
Nice project mate.. been thinking about doing one of these with the Shou Sugi Ban for a couple years still not done it though lol 😂🤦🏻
Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴
Love your videos and the Forman is cute as a button. I don’t know if this is the first time I noticed, but the cadence of the way you talked this video, reminds me of a girl I work with who at the end of each sentence sounds like she is asking a question. Uhg Still ordering the plans to this swing tho. 😍
I thought all the "shop whiskey" bottles in your clamp storage was a joke, but they was actually supposed to be there 🤣🤣 you are awesome 👍👍
Jason, love your videos. I’m recently retired and my wife and I will be building a new home next spring. I’m new to woodworking but plan a woodworking shop in the new home. My question is regarding the necessary electrical voltage I need for the shop. Keep in mind. I don’t plan on doing this for anything more than a hobby so it will need to be as elaborate as your shop.
Thanks for the input and keep up the great videos.
I saw a tool tip where they used a 3/8” socket wrench with a deep socket. You put the wrench through the eyebolt and use the deep socket to turn it. I enjoy your videos. 🤷🏽 No more running?
Looks nice! I might have burnt the frame, and left the slats natural for a contrast… that wood has a nice color to it. But either way, cool build!
Your bolt cutters are on the wall above a drill press. Now if only I could find my own tools lol
You can count on Foreman to always be droppin’ some dope moves.
I can’t pronounce the Japanese word either. Let’s just call it “slightly crispy burnt wood” or maybe “wood cooked medium rare”, shall we? Regardless, great video as usual and cool to see something a bit new.
Also, the foreman is the best! Always glad to see this guy.
P.S I seen a guy use a ratchet with a deep well socket or an extension to drive an eye bolt. You put the handle through the hole and the socket becomes your handle. If the eye is small you can just put a large 6 point socket over it. (if you have them large enough)
You should totally try making your own barrel, charring it and aging some moonshine into whiskey.
Maybe a button for Iced Tea on the armrest would help? Nice build porch swings with stainless hardware aren't cheap though. I like your sense of humor it brings a lot to the videos. Plus you tend to do an awesome job and be great at making it easy enough for someone to duplicate. You may be the Bob Ross of Carpenters!( But Funny too!)
2:27 I found your bolt cutters. Top left of your pegboard. Nice swing btw. Enjoyed the video as always.
Shou Sugi Ban has been huge on my store. I've done a lot of tea light holders out of construction grade lumber and finished them this way and they have been one of my fastest selling items. People just love the look. I normally do a wax finish on top to pop the grain. Love the vid!
0:30 oh reaaaaally? gonna come over to my place all the way in Europe just to help me build my patio furniture, huh?
joking xD
I've always wanted a porch swing, so I was happy to see this video in my feed!
HA HA .... My project would be cleaning my shop! I am in Oregon... so it would be a day trip!!
A hug is never wrong
Love the foreman! Would love to see foreman projects collaborations
Excellent flossing from the Foreman.
Would love to have you come to my shop, but I live in the UK.
Nice I made one years ago out of jatoba. Finished natural, but made it long enough so I could stretch out, (I’m 6’3”). Love it. Talk about a hard wood though. Burned up a couple of drill bits on pilot holes and broke a few SS screws. I finished it with tung oil (the real stuff) and redo the finish every couple of years as it is in the shade mostly. You don’t want to hear all this $h1t, sorry. Nice work.
one thing i would say is with how far out those eye bolts stick out that's going to apply a lot of torque and that wood might fail pretty quickly with that as it splits it, im not sure if you have another option to screw those in further at this point or not but could be an issue in the future.
Burnt 20mm earlobe stretch plugs w bourbon moth logo. You know you want to.
build Idea : Double bench with a cooler in the middle made from 2x4's and pallet wood and instead of screws you use Dowels
Yes, pallet wood. With a river table feature on the top of the cooler. I’m sure that will be his next project… 🤣
GV! Now a panel saw
I bet he narrates himself as he's working from our point of view too lol.
Good stuff bubba I can't wait to make this my full time work
