I appreciate the honesty of "mistakes were made." Screwing the first sheet of 3/4" ply to the wall and then glueing the 1/2" sheet to it thereby hiding the first set of screws is something I could see myself doing. Glad I can learn about "things to think about" before jumping into my projects, even if it's not something exactly the same.
Awesome book that gives you step-by-step photos ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt and directions to make every day project. I can see myself making a few of these projects and giving them as housewarming and holiday gifts!
Perhaps you could locate the screws in the 3/4" piece with magnets, then use a hole saw (large enough to offset it & not hit the screw with the central bit) to cut away the 1/2" layer above it, hopefully not needing to do too much prying/chiseling to get the circles out..?
@@matthewsmith8573 Possibly, but I think the glue is hidden because it's more dangerous to drink than bourbon...it's a safety measure in the workshop. 😂
With a green screen it is a good idea to light yourself from the back with a rim light (colored if you want to be fancy) that cuts out the green cast from the back and helps you stand out better when you superimpose yourself on another video. Makes it look all professional and a little less flat.
I would recommend a sharp chisel for removing the excess plug material. It's even faster than the saw and leaves a perfect finish. Heck of a sweet project.
Nice project. If you put a roll of green material at the bottom you can roll out, it would also enable you to include your whole body+feet in your green screen effects when you want it.
You could use magnets to keep the door closed. You could counter sink some earth magnets and then use some of those awesome plugs that you made to cover up the holes and protect the magnets from breaking.
It’s probably been mentioned, but a little trick is to put a strip of painter’s tape on your plugs before you cut them out. That way you don’t spend an hour picking plugs up from the shop floor 😉
Great build. I built my clamp rack out of pallet wood. My only pallet wood project. BTW I saw what you did at 3:05. Flicked the offcut out of the way with your thumb. I did that too until about a week ago. In a moment of inattention I flicked a little too soon and flicked the saw blade. I probably would have been a lot less painful with a SawStop, but it will get well in a month or two. Don't do as I did.
Went to get some clamps at Home Depot and they were all out of stock. Now I know why. Lol. Joking aside…this is a fantastic cabinet and I love the design. I don’t have nearly as many clamps but this cabinet could be organized with so many things. Thank you. Love the green screen also. Brilliant.
I built a small French Cleat clamp rack a few weeks ago and was super proud of it. But this is far and above a way better solution for storage. Nice work as always!
This was one of my favorite episodes. That cabinet is *so* versatile in so many areas of the home, I can’t stand it. While I am in no way qualified to comment, I do have a small suggestion…. In keeping of the theme of it being a secret storage cabinet, might I suggest using magnets along the edge and then installing two very slender finger tabs at some point that you can just kind of click to open. I believe the latch is too revealing of the glorious clamp storage which you created within. Also, LOVE the green screen, can.not. wait to see what you do with it.
I think considering that summer is here, it might be fun for you to build the best of Cornhole Boards ever. It’s a great beginner project and useful. Thanks for great videos.
Nice. I’d did something similar adding two swing doors that were k- mart steel framed peg board displays. Stepped it away from cabinet with 2x4 on hing side. Has worked out great they came with adjustable shelves as well. So now I have a handy clamp racks with short pegs on the inside for most used hand tools along with harbor freight mag strips. Opened up I have full access to my shelves full of hard ware on one and power tools on the other. Even made a small job site type pace with a light and shallow shelves for nail gun nails and my pocket hole and screws. It has saved me endless steps on projects and tickled me very time I use the wood shop area. Great vid brother.
Great build, Jason! I kinda need to build myself a clamp storage too. I like your funny appearances over the main video. The green wall should help with that and not only.
Question about the shelves: I’m sure they’re wedged in there nice and tight, but what’s to keep them from sagging over time? Didn’t see you glue them to the back panels or screw from the back on the front cabinet.
LOVE!! that Nicks handmade boots banner! caught my eye right when I saw it, they are from where I'm located in Spokane Wa! I like to see the local support!
What an awesome storage for clamps! 🤌😍 To prevent it from self-opening you should’ve put several pieces of paper (or paper stickers, or tape…) along the entire height on the left of the cabinet before fastening the piano hinges, it wouldn’t open itself. My father had made a folding door before I made one. Thank him, my one is a bit better now 😏 at least it doesn’t close or open itself.
Another great vid. A couple of quick queries/suggestions. 1. Did you think about having storage on the interior of the pivoting section instead of a green screen to maximise storage? 2. Did you consider keeping all your tools in a pile on the workshop floor? Its a technique that i pioneered and have been testing for some time now. Slainte'
You might need to upgrade the hinges if you're storing on both sides of the moving panel rather than just the outside. You've also doubled the amount of inconvenient storage i.e. the stuff you have to open the door before grabbing.
Genius idea on the shelf brackets and the angle iron. The cabinet isn't bad either :). These things from Rockler are a fortune. It's nice to learn things while you're being entertained. Nice job!
Found your channel today! AWESOME!!! You had me at Bourbon and Home Depot! Employed 17 years with them. Only question I have is where is the Angels Envy Bourbon? If you haven’t had it that will most likely be the only piece of great advice I could offer! Thanks for your amazing talented videos! ❤️
When I need to hang some clamps, I just buy a clamp and clamp it to a couple clamps then just clamp the whole thing onto one big clamp, which clamps onto a shelf or something. this saves money.
I wish I just had the lumber to be able to build half the bad ass stuff you do,well tools also. I have alot of tools but nothing like you have.this is one of my favorite channels to watch. Keep on being a badass!!!
Next time when securing shelves is to clamp your square right to the bottom of your shelf location. That way you have something to hold the shelf in place while you screw it. Great video, really enjoying your content!
Yeah, my Dream Clamp Storage begins with dreaming of clamps I don’t have! I went online to find Camps Galore and was disappointed to discover nobody has yet opened a clamps-only retailer. Incredible.
5:10 "So I decided to plop another piece of half-inch ply on top of my three-quarter-inch ply to bring the full thickness out to about $350". That's how I feel every time I think about any project these days. It's depressing.
I made a triple thick version of this but much smaller and hung on a wall for smaller tools and small parts, etc. I used leftover cedar boards and the sagging was ridiculous after. I like how you used maple and the castor on the floor. I hope you do more space saving shop storage projects in the future.
I showed this to my wife and she said, "Why would you want a big cabinet like that? You don't have many clamps". I said, "I know." Then, it hit her...I wanted to build one to buy more clamps. She gave me that look that told me I was just fantasizing and there would be no way she'd let me buy enough clamps to fill a cabinet like that, so no need to build it. Now, I'm sad. Thanks a lot, Jason...LOL
I made a similar mistake in my temporary shop - screwed 1/2” ply to the wall to mount French cleats which I glued and nailed. Covered enough of the screws that it lives there permanently now even after I moved to my full time shop… live and learn…
Great Vid! Love the green screen idea. I've been considering building a bar cabinet for a little while with a mini fridge for beer and chasers (have 60-70 spirits bottles in my kitchen cabinets right now). I've always been worried about the piano hinge not being strong enough to hold the door with many bottles in it: so I loved your caster wheel idea, just thought it wasnt really good looking, and then you hid it! Nice touch, will definitely use this for my build. Love the content!
Here's an idea if you ever need to remove it, find the screws below with a strong magnet, carefully drill there to expose the screws, remove said screws. Done.
Nice! But you should really keep the booze out of sunlight, unless you drink those open bottles in few weeks or don't care to lose the flavors. Swap them with glue perhaps?
If one day you want to remove the glue plywood.. just follow your studs marks and used a magnetic 🧲 to locate the screws and drill the 1/2 plywood and remove the screws from the 3/4 plywood.. good job 👏
Great build. I have a few observations. * You can tell how non-level the floor is right there. It looks totally cool. I figure I saved $6,000 on replacing it. Oh, yeah, my pending project in NE is to add 26' of depth to my 2car garage with RV door on left, to give me room for the RV and a decent wood shop. Wanna hang some trusses??
Hmm I think you need more clamps, and another clamp storage unit. 🤔 this is such an awesome piece! On my list to replicate now.... for my growing clamp collection.

I like how every project is becoming just a place for the bourbon to go
Better than moths :)
The latch was a lost opportunity for some magnets, for the "hidden" storage to stay even more hidden.
yep, and its quite possible to remake into that. and with strong enough magnets even make them hidden too
I like how the bourbon is showing and the wood glue is hidden. With my friends you’d want to hide the bourbon. 😂
I thought that was odd -- but realized shelf depth may have been the deciding factor.
@@matthewsmith8573 Possibly, but I think the glue is hidden because it's more dangerous to drink than bourbon...it's a safety measure in the workshop. 😂
