- Welcome to my new series AMSTERDAM VS THE NETHERLANDS. In this episode, we are putting Amsterdam to the test against Den Haag. Which city is the best city?!?! I have invited a special guest who is a Den Haag resident, Hedwig. She will be trying to convince us in believing that Den Haag is better than Amsterdam!

The main difference is that The Hague is more white collar than Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a wonderfull city for one day, while The Hague is a city to live in.
Nightlife is probably better and more diverse in Amsterdam. But The Hague is more pleasurable when it comes to environment. Lots of parks, forrests, sand dunes and the coastline. Also the city with the largest Asian community in the Netherlands, due to its ties with the former colony Dutch East Indies, currently known as Insonesia. And more options for expats also when it's about international schools.
Live in the hague, absolutely the best city in NL
I think the hauge is "better" than amsterdam because there's a bit less tourism like you can actually use the streets to bike instead of trying to avoid all the stoned tourists

I was born in the Hague, grew up in the surroundings and came back to live there 10 years ago, mainly because of my social network being mainly in this area. I really love other Dutch cities as well (I actually think Haarlem en Nijmegen are the prettiest ones with the best vibes 💜), but what I think the upsides from the Hague that aren't already mentioned in the video: - the housing here: you can get a house way more easily and more money-worth (I work in Utrecht and love it there too, but as a spec Ed teacher I wouldn't be able to afford a apartment in a nice neighbourhood there by myself, in the Hague I can!)- daily life isn't heavily influenced by tourists: they are there, but they don't "own" the city like you sometimes feel in Amsterdam - Art! Amsterdam and Rotterdam have a lot of art as well, but the Hague has a lot more theaters and museums than a lot of other cities in the NL. There are for instance 8 theaters for professional productions, on a population of half a million people, Two big museums (Kunstmuseum and Mauritshuis) with world famous collections (such as Vermeer and Mondriaan) and two big art-companies: NDT: a world famous dance company, and Nationale theater: a big theater company in the NL.
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
The hague has:
-the best dim sum restaurants of Western Europe ask any dutch/asian person
- 11 km of coast/beach. Scheveningen ( in this clip) is just two km. The beach of Wassenaar to Kijkduin. All much prettier than Scheveningen
- (if you’re into seafood) the best quality fish in the NL
- the best art deco architecture! Rent a bike and take a bike ride through the city an be amazed.
- the forrest which is between the city and the beach
- a prettier skyline!
I can go on and on.....
But what stands out the most...people in the hague are more down to earth. Maybe its because the hague is close to the beach that there is more of a laid back, genuine vibe. That I know for sure Amsterdam lacks 😉

I live in the South of the Netherlands. Been to Amsterdam 2 or 3 times. Felt really big to me bc my town only has 40K people while Amsterdam has 900.000 or smth like that.
I've been to The Hague too on a school trip to the Binnenhof & Tweede Kamer and it felt so much cosier and less busy. Very relaxed, beautiful buildings etc.
I like Amsterdam for a day. I'd spend a weekend in The Hague if I could (after quarantine)
I Love this series! The Den Haag has Mauritshuis which its not as big as the rijksmuseum it still has the feel of a palace inside!
Love the hague as well...have been many times as my aunt lives there...but yes it feels different from amsterdam...and love the beach...and they have awesome Indonesian restaurants.
I think Amsterdam has more of a small town feeling than Den Haag....I live close to Den Haag and love shopping there, but Amsterdam is just amazing.

We don't want tourist in the Hague go to Amsterdam
The Hague is at least 2 cities. One is inhabited by 'Hagenaren' and another one is inhabited by 'Hagenezen'. Amsterdam is very obnoxious about making all people there into some blend, Den Haag is just fine with all kinds of groups of people living together. People visiting might call some people snobbish because they dress to impress or aso because they dress to relax but those are just fast impressions of people that don't know the place. In The Hague you can go from being the only white guy in an Asian party to being the only white guy in an African party in a 500 meters walk. People complaining that there's nothing to do just have poor people skills because there are dozens of great parties there every day of the year.
Hai Joey, here is the Hague calling! We also have canals and the Hague was and still the is music center of the Netherlands..and did i mention our raw humor on the streets ? and we have Harry Jekkers and Haagse Harrie who is our mascotte, And like you have Jantje Beton,we have also a Jantje white a vedder on his hat and on his arm a basket (so i think you like ours more ;) ) i live near the beach btw ,and in 10 mins by bus or tram i am in the city center. I was born in the Schilderswijk and back then it felt like a small town. I live in Zoetermeer now, but when I go to the Hague it feels more like a big city nowadays. And ofcourse The Hague is the best. Think of the song from Harry jekker "Oh oh Den Haag".

The Hague has more than Amsterdam, though not inhabitants. The Hague (with suburbs) has two amusement parks, Drievliet and Madurodam. TH has 6 palaces and the Peace Palace. TH has embassies and ministries, so a lot of diplomats, heads of state, and political persons visit TH from all over the world. A has only tourists. TH has a lot of noble and stately homes. TH has beaches, dunes, promenade, pier and a fishery harbor. The only downside I can think of are the civil servants working in the many ministries. They hardly live in The Hague, so after six it’s deserted in the city center. Nightlife is for the inhabitants only, or maybe that’s a plus?? And I like the horses and carriages with new arriving diplomats with marching band in front of them when they go to the King in the palace to announce their coming by bringing/giving their credentials (geloofsbrieven) to the king. And of course Prinsjesdag, the most important day of the political year and it’s in TH and not in A. That gives grandeur and stature that A doesn’t have.

It's all depends what you're looking for. If you want to party🎉🍸 go to Amsterdam. If you want to eat 🍲🍤 (indisch /asian food and snacks) go to Den Haag. I like👍 to party but I love💖 to eat 😙

I prefer Amsterdam. The Hague is nice, but the city breathes more snobbish attitude than Amsterdam. Even the security guard can look-down at you as if you are a subject. Scheveningen is overrated and rundown, it needs a serious upgrade. It use to have better days. I find also the nightlife in The Hague the worse of the 4 big cities in The Netherlands. Boring central! Most people in The Hague go out to clubs in Amsterdam or Rotterdam.
Nice video. Having lived and worked in Amsterdam, now living in The Hague I totally agree with everything Hedwig is saying. Do I visit Amsterdam for a day or two. Sure. Do I want to live there again. No.
I'm not originally from The Hague. So I'm called a 'Hagenaar' and not a 'Hagenees' but that doesn't matter at all. There's diversity all around but no dividance. Serious. It's a way better town.

If you want to know why Amsterdam is not close to the beach. It's because of city placement, historically big harbour cities are not placed at the coast but a bit more inland to protect them from storms and raids. For example Oslo, London Hamburg, Antwerp. Amsterdam grew so big when the Dutch were dominating the grain trade in the Oost zee (Baltic sea).
I don't like them both I hate city's the idea too walk around like New York not me it's too busy for my taste

The Hague is fine but entirely too snobbish for my taste and when it comes down to it, it's a boring town with a boring population and I, a born and raised Amsterdammer, would rather live in Rotterdam than in The Hague. At least Rotterdam, like Amsterdam, has some life in it, stuff happening! I see people in the comments talking about the beach as a big draw to The Hague but from The Hague CS to the beach it's going to be close to half an hour to get there and guess what? Amsterdam CS to the beach takes you half an hour total - hardly a huge trip, I'd say. The only thing the rest of the country can beat Amsterdam in (and by a landslide too) is housing, Amsterdam is terrible in that department (too little of it and what's there is too expensive) but other than that, there's no real competition.
Point is, you're making an Amsterdam VS The Netherlands series for a reason. Not a The Hague VS The Netherlands or any other town VS The Netherlands. Amsterdam is what the rest of the country strives for. Amsterdam is where everything comes together and like any other place it has its flaws, but all in all it's an absolutely great city, the sort of city that starts running through your veins, that becomes the creed you live by, the kind of city that becomes the family you always return to. To me there's no comparison. Amsterdam is a way of life. Amsterdam is a motto. Amsterdam is a part of the identity of all who let the city into their soul. And none have ever regretted it.

Lol, Haagse Harry? Too snobbish? And no other city wants to be like Amsterdam. If the rest of the Netherlands would stop funneling money over to Amsterdam it would be broke in a week. We tolerate (and fund) Amsterdam because is keeps all the weirdos out of the rest of the Netherlands.
