WHO IS BUNCHARTED?

I'm an American who just moved to Den Haag less than a year ago, so it was really cool to see you guys visit this city! If you ever return again, you should definitely check out the Oranje-Hotel. I just saw it today and it's a fascinating and eye-opening historical museum that's really worthwhile. Also, the Prison Gate museum right near the Binnenhof is a highlight too!
Definitely visit the Gevangenpoort next time. Very interesting history museum located in what used to be the prison in the 16th/17th century. And I can highly recommend eating dinner in De Poentjak. It's one of the older Indonesian restaurants in Den Haag. Mind you, you do have to reserve a table in advance. They can be rather busy, and as it isn't that big of a restaurant, it might be full otherwise. It's also famous in Den Haag for having a lot of politicians as guest as well (it's close to the Binnenhof). Rutte even took Macron there when he came to visit the Netherlands for official business. Apart from that, it's just a really nice restaurant with a good choice of rijsttafels.
I am originally from Amsterdam. Important to report in advance :-) I worked for years in the Palace of Justice (the Court of Justice of The Hague) and I always teased my colleagues from The Hague when I went for a walk during the lunch break. Then I said "I'm just going into the village". The Hague does not have city rights and is therefore formally a village :-)
The Hague may not have been given city rights historically, geographically speaking it meets all the requirements to be called a city😊
Lodewijk Napoleon gave Den Haag city rights in 1806. And after the French period, the rights stayed, considering how much voting rights they got. So maybe not a classic city, that got it's city rights from one the the gewesten, but sort of a city nevertheless.

Guys! Go eat Indonesian food in Den Haag. My favorite places are Soeboer on the Brouwersgracht, or Istana in the Wagenstraat. And lot’s more. Den Haag has over a hundred(!) Indonesian restaurants.❤

When in The Hague visit the market (Herman Costerstraat) ,have a Indonesian ricetable at restaurant Bogor (Chassee straat) and check the Gemeente museum !
American expat in Den Haag here, should you decide to try Mexican in the city again I highly recommend Queru. Amazing tacos, rotating salsas, margaritas and churros. Thanks for highlighting some places I've been wanting to try!

Wat ontzettend leuk dat jullie alsnog Panorama Mesdag hebben bezocht. Ik had exact dezelfde reactie als Alex. Het is een hele aparte ervaring als je midden in de stad in een huis een wenteltrap opgaat en dan opeens op een virtueel strand staat van ruim honderd jaar geleden. Ook na al die jaren is het visuele effect nog steeds indrukwekkend!
I guess my then "American Girl visiting The Netherlands" (who later became my wife of 40+ years) was lucky enough to visit on a day when they had a tour. She had to touch the American chair and was so blown away to actually have been in the building and had the tour. We ended up in Scheveningen where we had deep-fried flounder, herring, mussels, and, of course: Patat!
Next time when in Scheveningen: go to Simonis aan de Haven. There are 4 Simonis restaurants grouped around the harbour, but go specifically to that one. You won't be disappointed. A good spot for kibbeling and much, much more. Other expats have discovered the restaurant already (when I listen to the conversations around me).

I grew up in Scheveningen and must warn against this. Eating at Simonis is extremely dangerous and addictive. Scientific research has proven that Simonis tastes as least 300% to 400% as good as other fish restaurants. Really, this is nothing for Michelle...

My partner and I are in Amsterdam for a couple months (sadly, with only a couple weeks remaining before we are forced to return to the US). Your videos are amazing --- you seem to be doing exactly what we do (i.e., meander, eat, and drink). Thanks for all the excellent tips on everything! We'll be headed to Den Haag tomorrow to (notably) check out some bagels.

Your compliant about Bagels 'n Beans is on-point. Only been there once, and I was so disappointed with the bagels. Next time you go to Den Haag, make sure to visit Dungelman. Their kroket sandwich and 'broodje bal' (meatball roll) are a Den Haag classic.
Leuke video weer... Altijd goed om te zien hoe jullie jezelf op het eten storten, en toch geen gewichtsproblemen krijgen ( komt dat door het vele lopen? ) . Een genoegen om naar te kijken... vooral als Michelle iets moeilijks probeert uit te leggen.

Jullie zouden naar Omniversum kunnen gaan in Den Haag, een imax bioscoop in een grote koepel. Er is ook een museum bij, het Museon. Het is een beetje gedateerd, maar leuk om eens mee te maken. Echt iets waar we vroeger naartoe gingen op schoolreis.

panorama mesdag is awesome! panoramas used to be really popular across the western world but this one is one of few that still exists and is in its original location. scheveningen was actually a fishing village but in the panorama you can see the trainline that was recently built that connected it to berlin with one one stop in between! roch people from berlin wanted to go to the beach. the painter wanted to record the rapid changes scheveningen went through. also a lot of visual gags :)

Leuke video weer! Jullie zijn al in zoveel plaatsen geweest! Misschien een keer met mooi weer naar het Zuiderzee museum in Enkhuizen gaan! Dat is een openlucht museum en erg mooi en interessant. Je kunt vanaf het treinstation met de boot naar het museum. Enkhuizen is sowieso een mooie plaats. En verder natuurlijk de Hunebedden in Drente en de Deltawerken in Zeeland. Ik heb nog niet al jullie videos gezien dus wellicht zijn jullie er al geweest :)

Just love your video's! Did you guys know this piece of history: Den Haag was originally named 'Die Haghe' (the fenced) that originated when Floris IV (1210-1234) had a hunting lodge built in this wooded region.
Heerlijke koffie en taart kun je krijgen in De Wiener Konditorei. Top apfelstrudel of Sachertorte. We stoppen daar altijd bij een bezoek aan Den Haag 😋
I lived there for about 10 years. Awesom city with a lot going on.
The green shoots on the beef-with-fries was probably garden cress. I can reccomend garden cress on a boterham met kaas. I grow it on a saucer on some wet cottonwool.
Bedankt voor het leuke fimpje. Ik heb als nederlander nog niet allen gezelligen plekjes gezien. Dat kan ook niet natuurlijk want er zijn er zo veel. Maar met jullie tips komen er wel steeds nieuwe ontdekkingen bij. Ik woon in Amersfoort daar zijn jullie ook geweest. Heel veel plezier in het ondekken van Nederland.

Leuke vlog weer! Een andere heerlijke en leuke plek om te bezoeken in Den Haag / Scheveningen is Simonis aan de Haven, waar je heerlijk verse vis kunt eten. Dit na een bezoek aan het Art Deco Kunstmuseum.
En niet te vergeten, toen wij in Nederland woonden, bezochten we ieder jaar de foodfair op de Ambassade van Maleisië in Den Haag, een absolute aanrader.

Maybe something unique you can do in The Hague for the next time is dine inside a moving tram, it's called Hoftrammm.
I did that last weekend and it was fantastic! Great ambiance, excellent service and the food was amazing! You need to book about 3 months in advance.

I would love seeing you guys back in Friesland. Leeuwarden is a beautiful city with the Escher in het Fries museum. From Leeuwarden you can take an Arriva train to Franeker and check out the Royal Eise Eisinga Planetarium which has just been named a World Heritage Site. You can also hop on and off trains to visit other quaint Friesian cities, such as Sneek.
The omniversum is a nice movietheatre to visit in Den Haag. It's Imax films are being projected inside a dome. Always fun to spend an hour there

Panorama Mesdag has a lot of visual trickery going on to make the perspective as real as possible. It's a really fun thing to visit.
If it's Mexican food you crave, go to Chidóz in Rotterdam. They are in the city center near Hema and McDonalds, in the street that ends with the Sisters Graene store. They recently opened and the food is sooooo good. We got lunch there in the office, I had the Macho Nacho platter and it was amazing.

The Royal Kerstmarket is great. I was born there and my familie at mothersite comes from Den Haag. At Rotterdam you have also a great bagels store at Bagel Bakery Rotterdam (Witte de Withstraat) if they are still there

Near the Coolcat clothes store is a nice drogist who sells good shaving equipment. You walked past it at least twice. For the next the Hague dinner I and Spain can recommend Tapisco Tapas Restaurant. They have a certificate by Spain. Another one is Hoftrammm, a dinner on a tram(streetcar).
You might also want to go to the Escher museum and photography museum.
Het automuseum Lauwman en het Kunstmuseum Den Haag is ook echt een aanrader in Den Haag.
De aziatische supermarkt Amazing Oriental is ook leuk om Japans, Indonees, of Chinese ingrediënten te halen.
Zelf gaan we ook graag in de zomer naar het strand Wassenaarse Slag. Dat is leuk ontspannen strand met leuke eetgelegenheid.
Ja, was weer een leuke video om te kijken.
Woon zelf in Wageningen de stad van de bevrijding WW2. Het ligt tussen twee bergen,........ nou ja bergen..........oke heuveltjes dan.

Thank you so much for stopping by my bakery! Someone stopped by yesterday and told us about you/this video. Really glad you enjoyed the bagels, which we boil/bake in-house daily. We also make our own cream cheese in-house. Hope to see you soon for another bagel :) It looks like you had a great trip to the Hague. For Mexican, I really like Kua and Queru, which are owned by Mexican chefs. The Haagse Broeder Brewery is great although I like Free Beer Co. for their beer selection to takeaway. Haagse Markt is also very much an experience for the next time. Hope that you make it back soon as the Hague is a beautiful city in summer especially when there is the nieuwe haring. I have lived here in the Hague for 6+ years and absolutely love it here!

Thanks! I am from NYC, so I just missed them and started baking my own at home. Friends kept encouraging me before I redid a lot of my recipes to make them better as I did not feel like the taste/texture was right. I also had to figure out how to make everything with ingredients here. Here I am 3 years later doing this full-time; it is still a mystery to me how this all panned out so okay. Not really what I intended to do with my Master's degree and B2 Dutch 😂 @@buncharted

Den Haag heeft altijd een aanzienlijk aantal inwoners gehad met een afkomst uit Nederlands Indië/Indonesië. Ik weet niet hoe het heden ten dage is, maar het Indisch eten was altijd fantastisch. Misschien een ideetje voor de toekomst ;o). Ik weet niet of mijn Nederlands goed genoeg is om mee te oefenen, but this is what you get :o).

Nice video again! If you are into small towns, try Doesburg and Thorn. Especially Thorn is very nice to walk through, known for its historical white houses. It's not that far from Roermond and near the Belgian border.

Ik ben bang dat jullie over twee jaar heel Nederland hebben gezien en de koffers pakken om terug naar de VS te keren.
De meeste grote steden hebben jullie nu wel gehad.

@@bunchartedga naar Brabant. De verschillende steden hebben allemaal iets anders te bieden. Historisch gezien is den Bosch het meest indrukwekkende. Mijn eigen stad is tilburg. 😅
Een paar tips van plaatsen die jullie nog moeten bezoeken (denk ik) zijn Woudrichem (en slot loevenstein) wellicht kunnen jullie met de trein naar Gorichem vanuit Dordrecht en dan op de fiets (en dan met de veerpond naar de andere kant).
En jullie moeten denk ik nog een keer naar Utrecht komen dan naar "dom under"(met romeinse invloeden) en daarna een mooie wandeling vanuit utrecht langs de krommerijn naar het pannenkoekenhuis (theehuis) in Rhijnauwen maken. Als je na de pannenkoeken nog tijd hebt steek over bij de bushalte en loop vandaar naar het "fort bij vechten' (waterlinie museum) en daarachter heb je nog een replica van een romeinse wachttoren en de layout van een romeins fort. In Utrecht kan je dan bijvoorbeeld eten bij Ramen Tepan (naast ramen hebben ze ook sizzling hot dishes). But whatever you/go cannot wait to see it...and you wanted it in dutch this time 😉
The Hague has a lot of very interesting museums. Het Mauritshuis (a lot of great paintings from the Dutch golden century and before). Het Louwman museum (a large car museum). Het kunstmuseum. De gevangenpoort. Or you could go to Madurodam - a miniature city.

Hoi Alex en Michelle, leuk dat jullie in de mooiste stad van het land zijn geweest weer! Bij een volgende bezoek zou ik Hop & Stork aanbevelen voor koffie en of chocolade, restaurant De Basiliek voor een mooi diner (wel iets meer fancy dan jullie meestal lijken te doen, maar super goed) en er zijn een paar super coole cocktailbars voor in de avond: Ultramarijn en/of Dorian Speakeasy.
Verder leuk om te bezoeken zijn het Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Museum Beelden aan Zee, Meijendel (nature preserve in the dunes) en het Louwman Museum.

Misschien Tilburg nog een keertje, maar dan niet tijdens de Tilburgse Kermis? 😊 En in Eindhoven heb je een restaurantje El Pastor, 3x raden wat ze daar onder andere serveren...inderdaad de Taco El Pastor, overheerlijk. Maar ook de Birria Taco met consomé ZO lekkerrrr.
YES THE BEST CITY FINELY
Een absolute aanrader in Den Haag is het Louwman Museum, een van de grootste particuliere autoverzamelingen ter wereld in een museum van wereldklasse. De getoonde auto's stammen van de allereerste 'paardenloze koetsen' tot ongeveer de jaren '90. Er is ook een grote hoeveelheid automobilia en auto-gerelateerde schilderkunst te zien. Je hoeft echt geen autogek te zijn om daar een paar uur door te kunnen brengen! :)

Weer een leuke video! Voor mij persoonlijk is een bezoek aan Den Haag niet compleet zonder een bezoekje aan 'the American Book Center' aan de Lange Poten...
leuke video, familie van mijn moeder woonde daar dus we kwamen er best vaak, in fact i will be there Saturday. We gaan vaak naar Bram Ladage good fries , maar daar zijn jullie al geweest. Tip : de dennenweg , high end shopping street and close to the escher museum

I live in Vlodrop. Province Limburg. I was borne in Maasbracht, the 3 de graethest binnenhaven of Europe. Around Maasbracht You can found very nice places, also for ery good food. Roermond, 12 km from Maasbracht you have a very big shopping outlet, with also lekkere dingen. ❤🎉😊
Jullie zijn volgens mij nog niet in Arnhem geweest. Met vlak daarbij Oosterbeek met het Airborne museum over de slag om Arnhem in 1944
I can recommend going to the restaurant by Ami in the Hague. They have an interesting colourfull decoration inside and the food is very different and delicious. Then I would also say you can go to the museum beelden aan zee. Its in Scheveningen and has great statues in and outside the building. Good luck and hope to see you soon in my hometown The Hague. 😊
we walked by it a bunch when filming this video - it looked very interesting!
In The Hague you will also find the best spare ribs in the Netherlands and beyond. Taveerne de Resident at the Dennenweg has been serving them since the seventies and I bring their marinade home with me to Hilversum every time I visit The Hague where I was born. These ribs don’t “fall off the bone” but need some work which is as it should be.

I think you should do a towns tour along the river IJssel. Kampen, Zwolle, Hattem, Deventer, Zutphen, Bronkhorst, Doesburg.
Or along the eleven Frisian cities.
A tour of villages and small towns in de Achterhoek en Twente regions is also really nice.
Rent (or buy) a campervan with a bicycle rack so you can easily explore the towns and surroundings by bicycle.

Het is fijn dat de vier grootste steden van ons land zo verschillend zijn, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag en Utrecht bieden elk hun unieke karakter aan de bezoekers. Wellicht leuk om ook de kleinere historische stadjes te bezoeken; Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Medemblik, Zierikzee, Goes, Zutphen, Kampen, Venlo, Roermond, Sneek, Dokkum, etc. Als het weer beter wordt is de kust met de stranden aan te bevelen alsmede de Waddeneilanden 😊

- Forteiland Pampus (en dan direct een bezoekje aan de mooie plek Muiden en het Muiderslot.
- Zutphen
- Hoorn
- Breda
- Sneek
- Vlissingen
- Leiden (or did you go there already?)
- in summer, go and experience Friesland from a sail boat (hit me up)
- not the Netherlands, but closeby: Brugge in Belgium.
Besides cities, towns and villages you should save up some National Parks and more rural areas. De Veluwe, de Biesbosch, Ijsselmeer, Soester duinen, Oosvaardersplassen, De Alde Feanen, De Weerribben (where Giethoorn is), etcetera.
we've been to leiden! and we've been to the veluwe (in our second camper van video) and the biesbosch (in our "what we eat in a day" video). but... there's still a lot of those places that we still need to visit.
hopefully this year when it warms up! :)
Brugge in belgium is okay but Gent is really packed with restaurants (so perhaps you can combine the 2)

Going out for food in The Hague, and not going to an Indonesian restaurant, or at least a toko - that's a crime worthy of the Court of International Justice! The Hague is historically Indo town, and you're really missing out. I'd suggest another video to make up for this... :)
Nice video, thank you so much for the insights! I am confused at the end regarding De Haagsche Broeder Brouwerij. It seems to me that they are selling vandestreek beer, and it would be important to acknowledge the brewery because they are in Utrecht...!

i drink that playground IPA from van de streek in a lot of our videos and i’ve mentioned it so many times before that i stopped bringing it up 😂 but i love it, it’s delicious! and we do need to stop by their brewery at some point as well
