- Windows XP and Windows 7 are both considered to be the top versions of Windows ever released. As such, here's a video comparing various system icons including Internet Explorer, Microsoft Paint and more.

Couldn't disagree more. When 7 came out, it made me think the era of beauty was over. And the fade has only accerelated with subsequent releases.
To be honest, I have used both of the Windows versions which felt futuristic and ahead of its time!

Without any doubt, the best OS ever launched by Microsoft. I used Windows XP in my childhood and today, I use Windows 7 whose graphic design is very beautiful. Windows 10 has a good design but It's very minimalist.

My childhood began with Windows 3.0. All very beautiful and useful, and barring the stupid replacement of on-desktop program groups with start menu and introducing rather stupid "My Computer" concept of mixed virtual locations and even setup apps with physical drives, the UI was getting better up to XP. Then came huge turnaround, 7 went scrambled and trying to be minimalist and overdesigned at same time. All subsequent releases being more and more horrible. Not to even mention the horrible bloat since 7 and getting worse.

@@pyxiewynxie It did. Maybe I was a little unclear but I meant that 7 *was* the first one having an amount of bloat to cross my rubycon.. And since kept going worse and worse.
To be honest, even XP had bloat especially with later service packs, but it was still barely tolerable, and was in my personal judgement somewhat offset by the excellent functionality and UI design.
Yeah, Windows 7 was great. You can still get updates for it as well. POSReady 2009 updates work on 7.
Like them both. But Windows 7 is a masterpiece though.

@@TheSimoc i have to disagree, windows xp was overrated and it wasnt good until sp2, windows 7 rtm was a masterpiece and it was an example of how good windows couldve been if windows 8 the mistake wasnt released
@@minelayer26 Well yeah, XP was somewhat too buggy till SP2. But since it, very good, not overrated in my opinion, actually I don't remember anything about its ratings, it was just a masterpiece of Windowses in my experience. In 7 every single change in UI was towards worse, more scrambled and uglier, and horrible amount of added bloat, completely unwarranted with very little actual and even less useful functionality added. There were a few useful added functions though, such as UAC, but they don't account for much. XP was already so bloated that with professional work, resource hogging could rather have been trimmed in subsequent release even with retaining the few added functions they added. Still, agree that 8, 10, 11 are way worse.
@@TheSimoc imo the 7 ui was way ahead of xp and it improved upon vistas ui, adding several features, that kickass transparency, the consistency, and 7 came with the apps that you would actually use, compared to getting candy crush soda saga on windows 10

@@carlosbarreto475 don't forget about the transparent green-to-blue ones from vista, or the even more hyperrealistic icons from some programs
I had a video of it in mind but it was ultimately scrapped because the main icons were too identical

Windows XP is the really game changer... I was used xp 2004 to 2011... Windows vista has some failures but 7 has perfect os, very simple and handy os... no doubt vista is the most beautiful os microsoft ever made. Xp is the best and robust os they ever made

Lets be real here. Both are goated operation systems which brought good memories to a lot of people.

The windows 7 icons look more realistic and 3D style like icons. The windows xp icons look cartoony and 3D basically looking like video game icons. But windows 7 & windows xp were the best windows operating systems ever made. Windows XP came out in 2001 and when it was released, the users were very impressed by the fast & great performance windows XP used. For example, it was very easy to use and the stability was insanely well done. For windows 7 released in October of 2009, when it was released, the original users for windows XP that upgraded to windows vista were very overwhelmed by the also great performance of windows 7 and the features of it were very styled especially aero and fans were happy that this was better than vista because vista was very buggy & glitchy on its launch but windows 7 lacked the buggy features and was insanely the best OPS in windows history. I got to admit these operating systems needed to last longer. I know we miss these two so much and I still have them both on my shelf because they are my babies lol.
Definitely need to last longer! XP was the last good Windows, 7 already bad but better than all its completely intolerable successors. I keep those "babies" not just on shelf, but on active use, because I refuse to use those horrible successors. And those "old" releases work well and I don't by the "insecurity" marketing hoax. The more bloated a software is - which later releases horribly are - the more attack vectors and unknown vulnerabilities they have.
@@TheSimoc windows 7 and xp were the best. Windows 7 wasn’t bad unlike vista, but before people were able to buy windows ), they used the beta of it seeing how good it was. Then they saw vista’s reputation and said “Ykw, I’m not even gonna bother using that. I’m gonna go back to XP and then upgrade to windows 7.” So they were both great operating systems it would be nice if their support lasted longer though.
@@ultra_minamino Yeah, I have no experience about Vista but you're likely right. Heard a lot of its bugginess, which was well fixed in 7. But about features, 7 was imo worse from XP in almost all changes it had. Still usable though, unlike its successors. Should still be supported, but fortunately they work without support ;) I still have both XP (preferred) and 7 (for use in pinch with software not supporting XP anymore), trying to learn Linux and migrate into, I will never have newer Windows as a daily driver, gone too bad.

I feel like a lot of Windows XP's icons would be rather easy to recreate in Adobe Illustrator. They have this simplicity to them that gives me that feeling.
