@@closertotheheart As far as I'm aware, it could qualify next year... but each country can only submit one film and its momentum will likely be gone (there's a reason so many Oscar-nominated films are released at the end of the year).
More kaiju Oscars trivia we couldn’t squeeze into a one-minute video: • King Kong has been much more successful at the Academy Awards than Godzilla. They didn’t have a prize for special effects back in 1933, but the King Kong remakes in 1976 and 2005 both prevailed in that category, while Kong: Skull Island was nominated. ‘76 also received nominations for cinematography and sound, and ‘05 won in sound mixing and sound editing. • During the opening of the 80th Academy Awards (2008), Peter Jackson’s King Kong delivered a flying kick to the TriStar Godzilla’s face. You can watch that here: ruclips.net/video/k8hELJLBbDA/видео.html • Brad Pitt revealed that The War of the Gargantuas was the film that made him want to become an actor at the 84th Academy Awards (2012). • Japan has its own Academy Awards, which Shin Godzilla dominated in 2017. Godzilla Minus One may fare even better, having picked up 12 nominations to Shin's 10. Godzilla as an awards darling, who would’ve thought? • The 90th Academy Awards (2018) paid tribute to original Godzilla suit actor Haruo Nakajima in its In Memorium section. • Juliette Binoche (Sandra Brody in Godzilla [2014]) is the only Oscar-winning actor to appear in a Godzilla film. Other Oscar-winning or Oscar-nominated actors with kaiju connections include Nick Adams, Demián Bichir, Jeff Bridges, Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, Brian Donlevy, Vera Farmiga, Robert Forster, Naomie Harris, Anne Hathaway, Sally Hawkins, Brian Tyree Henry, Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Jenkins, Rinko Kikuchi, Jessica Lange, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, David Strathairn, Russ Tamblyn, Ken Watanabe, and Naomie Watts.
The fun part is the budget wasn’t even 15 million or 10 million as people suspected, as the director said he wishes he had that big of a budget, so it was much less
I don't care if he won it or not. A nomination alone is a huge achievement, and it wasn't even an American Godzilla film, it was a Japanese Godzilla film. That makes the nomination even better.
"Kong: Skull Island" should be considered Godzilla's first oscar nominated film as cave paintings of him, Rodan, Mothra, ans King Ghidorah were ahown at the end of the film even though it's a film mainly about a big ape
@@sauces7465 well yeah but still other movies were better at the time so really godzilla minus one combined the good cgi of the monsterverse and the great story of the original gojira so thats how it won an oscar .
Finally someone who sees upsides. “IT GOT SNUBBED BY CRAP HOLLYWOOD BOOOOOOOO” It got nominated. Sure, an Oscar would’ve been amazing, but a nomination is great enough.
I honestly hope it wins. The movie was great, even though I had to read with the pace of the voices bc I don't speak Japanese. Godzilla minus one deserves it.
1) much like Jamie Lee Curtis last year i wonder how he's never been nominated before 2) i am so goddamn sick of hearing people whine about Flash's movie
Kamiki Ryunosuke also deserve praises on his acting too. This movie is just good despite the low budget, especially compared to the current movies Hollywood makes *cough* The Marvels *cough* where they are expensive to make, had terrible writing, and of course, promoting agendas.
GODZILA MINUS ONE WON THE AWARD!!!!!
WE WON!
Should’ve been nominated for best picture.
Yea tbh
@@DYXAnims69didn't expect to see you here

Godzilla got the best gift of all!!
Should be nominated for Best Foreign Language Film--story, not effects, carried this one, though of course the Big G is always a joy
That category's a weird one - each country's submission has to be in by October 2, so Minus One couldn't have qualified this year.
@@michaelcallari That's so dumb. I'm guessing it means it won't qualify for next year either. I'd like to think it would have been an easy win. :/

Didn’t Adrien Brody win Best Actor in The Pianist? (Oh wait you’re talking Godzilla movies only)
I had to look up that Brad Pitt fact to make sure it wasn’t a joke, that’s wild

This MASTERPIECE should have taken all the Oscars!

Japanese Godzilla is nominated for special effects. I never knew that I'd live to see it.
congratulations takashi Yamazaki and group of GODZILLA MINUS ONE😍😍🥰🥰
fortnite cutscenes look better than the flash i think
True, they actually try to make stuff look good.

Godzilla minus won the oscar today mar 10th

The AMPPAS should consider doing a Godzilla tribute during the Oscars. This year marks his 70th anniversary.
Nice to know the Oscars can still nominate ART ❤
The first Godzilla movie to ever get an Oscar reward.
He looks sharp in that suit
We need all Godzilla's from 1954 OG to the Legendary Big G. all for Minus One.

Godzilla Minus one Wins!!!!
Well from now on, no matter what?
It will be known as "Academy award nominated Godzilla Minus one!"
To be fair, Yamazaki said he and the studio did what they could to accommodate the VFXs workers as much as they could.
Let's go!
ALL HAIL GODZILLA BABY!!!!!
The fact that godzilla is 69 years old but hasnt been no inated till jow is wild
yeah especially with the monsterverse the cgi in those movies is crazy

Well, it might still win that Oscar. But anyone who thought a Best Picture nomination was on the table was not being realistic, yeah.
Hollywood is failing so
It will come back for them
They only did that because Godzilla humiliated them 😂
Hollywood is dying anyway

We finally did it 🥲
Godzilla needs to win cuz a 15 below million budget is crazy and it’s made by Japanese people

You know who else won an Oscar?
''TAKASHI YAMAZAKI WAS ABLE TO MAKE MINUS ONE IN 15 MILLION DOLLARS WITH 30+ STAFFS''
I like how nobody is mentioning that its 2 billion yen, which is still a crapton in japan
Since you made a video of the heisei Godzilla why don’t you make a video about the Showa Godzilla
1) much like Jamie Lee Curtis last year i wonder how he's never been nominated before
2) i am so goddamn sick of hearing people whine about Flash's movie
Good insight
Hail Gojira!

Make a Kaiju Profile of Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla
Always Sunset on Third Street (2007)
Godzilla The Ride (2021)
Godzilla Minus One (2023)
GODZILLA MINUS WON!
Why 😕
vis effects is a joke nomination. try best pic.
I blame DEI Hollywood hires inept writer's, directors all based on the color of your skin or who you sleep with rather than hiring good story tellers
Kamiki Ryunosuke also deserve praises on his acting too. This movie is just good despite the low budget, especially compared to the current movies Hollywood makes *cough* The Marvels *cough* where they are expensive to make, had terrible writing, and of course, promoting agendas.
Oh knock it off the flash looked good
But Godzilla looked better
No, just no. It looks like it was made on sfm
