  • Here is the scene as it is in my fan edit from 2010. I'm looking for suggestions on how this could be improved for the new version in HD. I'll be adding the background hum from the theatrical footage to all Donner Cut footage, any other suggestions?
    This video was over 6 minutes and included the full depowering scene, unfortunately it was blocked by WB.
    Also, thanks to everyone who's subscribed. Pretty incredible to have almost 500 of you since I didn't even release a video last year, hopefully I can rectify that in the coming months.

    The only thing awkward is around 1 minute when Zod flies towards superman, Lois cutaway, cut back to both standing immobile in front of each other. The rest is such a vast improvement!

      Cheers, the difficulty is getting Zod over to Superman and have them grappling. To use the Lester footage without any of the weird powers needs a solution. That's what I came up with in 2010, I want to do it better this time around.

      Yeah I immediately noticed it, funny how the human eye can notice cuts in a film that don’t tally. It’s so hard though, I tried doing a superman 3 edit cutting out the crap, to do seamless is near impossible, the trick seems to be using alternate footage to minimise the awkward cuts, sound as well.

      @@faneditedbybooshman Just had a think, and I think there's potential to make the Zod flying to Superman bit less jarring. You might be able to repurpose some of the footage from the Metropolis fight (specifically where Zod goes to strike Superman on top of the car), and then cut to his arm being twisted. Removes the awkward stare they give eachother, and shows Superman as being more prepared. The only issue might be the height of Zods arm between the shots, but I just did a test and with quick motion it's isn't too jarring. Maybe zoom in so it looks more like a cut? Not sure, but that's one possible solution. Also, it might be possible to make Superman lasering Non look like he's focusing/straining a bit more to do it. Same with when the three are lasering Superman. Instead of just using the wide shot with their arms up, you could repurpose footage from when Zod's lasering Metropolis and just replace the bg with a matte of the Fortress. Apart from that, the rest of it seems like it can stay the same and works really well! Hope this has been of some help

  • @gyzzofytal

    Hi booshman. I think if you simplified the scene It would be better. For example, the shot with the kick to Ursa should be delete. Also, shot with zod face off Superman would be eliminated and simply leave how Superman catch zod. Of course, i love your fan edit of Superman II.

    Hey Boosh, so glad to see you're still working on this. A few ideas I have if you wanna take a shot at them:
    - Before Superman says "I expect..." add a whoosh sound (and maybe a bit of digital cloud "poof" near his feet to imply he landed a little hard).
    - pitch Stamp's voice down a bit so that his voice in the Donner footage matches the rest.
    - since the shot of them standing eye to eye is so short, what if you did like a slow-mo moment of them them both lifting their arms to attack but then switch to the "strangle hold" shot after another insert/reaction from the others? I need to watch the scene in the theatrical and see if there's a way to make it work.
    There was a fan edited clip I saw a very long time ago where someone kept the disappearing/reappearing kryptonians AND superman. We've probably discussed it before. Not sure if it's still on RUclips but if you're interested in taking a shot at doing that to I can see if I still have the clip on my external hard drives and I'll send it to you.
    Cheers and happy New year!!

    • @simplegarak
      @simplegarak 2 года назад +6

      I always interpreted the disappearing bit as the kryptonians moving at super speed.
      I wonder if tech has advanced enough that you could add into the scene now a brief shift of the figures and motion blur to better convey that idea.

    • @Vinny792
      @Vinny792 Год назад +1

      @@simplegarakTechnology of today is advanced enough to improve underwhelming special effects. Adding motion vibrational colored blurs to the Zod gang and Superman would definitely help better establish in this sequence that they are moving at super speed. The only bit that would still be inconsistent is that during this scene, Non flies toward one of the Superman clones and it collapses from being an ice statue. I feel that's too much to accept the idea of Superman both making a complete ice statue of himself at super speed and creating an afterimage overlayed exactly where the statue stands all at the same time.

    • @simplegarak
      @simplegarak Год назад

      @@Vinny792 Ah was there supposed to be an ice statute there? I always assumed it was a kind of super-speed after image.
      The idea of a super-speed ice carving though amuses me way more. 😆

    • @Vinny792
      @Vinny792 Год назад +1

      @@simplegarak It's seemingly both. If you look at the original scene in slow motion, the after image is overlayed onto what appears to be an ice statue of Superman and is wiped away as Non flies into it and then collapses.

  • @anthonygarcia8749
    @anthonygarcia8749 2 года назад

    I only liked that you had the heat vision come from their eyes for the most part. The heat vision at Non flying towards him rather than the 'S' shield is debatable. But the super speed and holograms should be kept in. It's great and creative and has Supes using his wits and having some tricks up his sleeves to keep his foes off balance and guessing while he gets everything prepared. Zod gets frustrated at these trivial parlor tricks and Non and Ursula threaten to snap Lois in half. That whole part is perfect just the way it is.

    • @faneditedbybooshman
      @faneditedbybooshman  2 года назад

      If you like that stuff, the theatrical cut is always there. Everyone teleporting around the fortress is not for me.

    • @Vinny792
      @Vinny792 Год назад

      @@faneditedbybooshman You could always adjust the vfx with wooshing blurs to make it more clear that Superman and the Zod gang are moving at Superspeed and not teleporting. If you wanted.
      You could also add vibrational blurs to the multiple Superman clones to make the appearance of his super speed afterimages more apparent.

    • @Vinny792
      @Vinny792 Год назад

      The only strange bit that doesn’t consistently add up with the Superman clones is if they’re supposed to be afterimages he creates using his super speed, why does one of them collapse like a statue made of ice?
