Your "First Impressions" are more comprehensive than the majority of in-depth reviews out there. Excellent video and review as always. You even reviewed the hot sauce!!! LOVE IT!
Hey John, I just got the Shogun and couldn’t put it down! It’s a very interesting, fun paddle…great combo of control, power and pop with a very plush feel for finesse shots and soft game. Wow, it really seems to do it all. I’m a strong 4.0+ tournament player and have played with many different paddles over the years. This is a real standout! Would love your thoughts in a full review. Thank you! 🙌🥊
Love this! Thanks for always sharing your honest thoughts! ❤
any chance we see a similar titanium-carbon fiber face on the hybrid shape?
Sir, your paddle vids are legendary!! Thanks!!
Thanks for your sharing. I really like the design of this box.
Thanks for the initial review. I ordered mine last week and I was curious what players thought of it so far.
For those of us bike nerds, the performance of the titanium is not surprising. Carbon fiber bike frames are extremely stiff and have little to no flex (although that can be modulated a bit by adjusting the weave). By contrast, while almost indestructible, titanium is known to have a small amount of flex. This produces the "magic carpet" ride feeling of a titanium bike frame because the flex soaks up bumps and cracks in the road rather than sending the impact and vibration along to the rider. Thus, not surprising that the carbon + titanium paddle face feels more plush than a straight carbon face.
Enjoyed the review and tasting notes!
I got in on the first pre-order goodness, and learning my lesson from buying the Loco early but waiting in agony bc I was too cheap to get 2nd day air, I went all out for the Shogun, and man am I glad I did!❤ Just got finished playing two days in a row, 3 hrs and 4hrs, and I love the spin, pop, and enough power for me to put the ball away at will!
Great review! They do have great packaging. I can’t wait to see what other companies do with the titanium carbon fiber. Nexus Pickleball USA is doing a titanium carbon fiber. Can’t wait to get my hands on that paddle to see how it compares to the Shogun!
Nailed it!
Great review as usual John! 🥊 Do you know if you can use a paddle eraser to clean the face as you would use on carbon fiber?
I got one of the first. Day was was a disaster for me. I could hit a third, dink, or reset for the life of me. Every day since then has gotten better. I'd say you're spot on with it being all court. I do hope it breaks in a bit more and develops a bit more put away power like most of the thermoformed gen 2 paddles I've played with.
Are you still playing with it? If so, how do you like it?
I saw your numbers for the Karachi x Kevlar on the spreadsheet and the pop and power are very high on the scale. I thought the Kevlar version was supposed to be more control focused?
1:47 "The twist weight approximates the size of the sweet spot from side to side and the paddle's ability to withstand twisting and sending those annoying vibrations up your arm when hitting off-center."
I thought this sentence was so enlightening and edifying. Does this imply that players with tennis elbow or wrist/arm/shoulder pain should look for and use paddles with a high twist weight?
Gotta love the sauce review LOL
Do you think the slyce endcap plus some weight at 4-8 could shore up its twist weight issues and make it more well rounded?
Was curious about the red material on the face. Looking at it with the naked eye you can't really tell.
Face conceals ball dust well. Now I only wish it comes in a Loco!
Soooo…. Can I have your demo Shogun after testing? Pretty please?
Since it is titanium weave(stronger and harder), will the grid last longer? Meaning the spin will stay true longer?
I have a Shogun and I believe the spin will last longer. The titanium doesn't necessarily add "grit" to the paddle, the weave pattern acts more like tennis strings. So unless the titanium wires start breaking off the face of the paddle, I don't think it will lose much spin at all.
I keep waiting for bread and butter to make a low swingweight paddle that fits my game. Totally jealous of all you bread and butter folks out there! Love the company vibe. Maybe I’ll buy that Grateful Dead paddle just so I feel I have supported the cause…
Have you tried the Loco? Its swing weight is lower
I have a loco and love it! I think the swing weight is around 114, it’s super fast in the hands
My Shogun shipped without the box! .... is that normal?
this is what all paddles should be...reasonably priced, good performance and not "too big for their britches" kind of company...these 280-300 paddle companies are really full of themselves
I look for the same value but at a reasonable price examples the company called Mark. Great paddles
Even the ones over $225 are overpriced too tbh.
Bizarre comment
There’s no such thing as a $280 paddle company. Joola and Gearbox offer paddles at all price points. No one is forcing you to pay x amount for any paddle. You’re whining over nothing.
@@t-raylowe1289I love it! They are a company that makes a great product and remembers that Pickleball is fun.
PSA - "Oishii" is pronounced phonetically like "Oy-she". Do itashimashite Fam!
This or willinator?
FWIW, chris and will both like this paddle. Will of course has a bias on the TBD, Chris doesnt seem to like it due to the heavy swing weight, but his brother likes it. I have the shogun and i love it. I have no experience with the TBD (yet haha preordered it)
Great looking face and packaging. Not a fan of the grip color. Hoping SOMEONE comes up with a
"LUXX" killer. Soft, plush feel with great spin. Power is not my focus.
All paddles should include hot sauce.
