  • Here's a great way to take orange peels you'd normally throw out and turn them into a delicious citrusy spread. I call it orange rind grind or orange peel caviar. Add it to smoothies, batters, yogurts, doughs, ice cream, oatmeal, pie fillings -- anything you want to rev up with the flavor of a fresh orange.

I add the rind of a whole orange as I eat the orange, and add one cup sugar and one cup water to cover the orange peels. I usually do this over a week of eating oranges. And make sure to add more of the sugar-water solution any time I need to cover the oranges. You want the orange peels covered by the liquid. As for adding a whole orange sure, why not, but it does make more of a slurry and cloudier mixture with the orange juice and "innards" included. Good luck!
