I'm here because I was looking into the lyrics of Kaval Sviri, then I found your video where you crafted this instrument and now playing it. Incredible.
Amazing, I had a similar route coming here after listening and reading the lyrics of Kaval Sviri and actual buying a Kaval flute. I am a foreigner, so if it works (as the lyrics promises) I will let you know!

The damp moss and misty morning fog,

The smell of fresh resin filled sawdust.
The scraping of dried bark and odors of burnt wood,
The tender crackling of crosscutting woodgrain and gentle filed steel tooling,
Precise tapping, accurate scraping, gentle sanding and the lines, those fine lines.
How does the Universe do it's dance,
How does it make something from nothing, from the void,
From seed, to tree,
From branch to flute,
From the silent breeze and rustle of the trees,
To the precise airflow of mouth and breath,
Millions of constituents needed to make it so,
This the Universe does, with such seeming ease.....

Wow first time i hear Doina with other national specific, i think you put in this melody some influence from your culture, in Romania, Doina have last note in musical phrases a little longer. I'm impressed how you was able to feel and made your version and let us to have a journey together with your emotions.

This is traditional middle east and Asian Turkish flute type. Kaval name is derived from the word 'kav', which means 'hollow object' in pure Turkish. In ancient times, mostly shepherds used it to impress the sheep. Currently, it is one of the indispensable instruments in many Turkish music.
I really loved seeing the making process through to you playing such an exquisite piece of music. At times, I thought it sounded like you were using circular breathing. Thank you for sharing.

Winne Clement i am not to familiar with the measurements. Hole diameter, flute length, wall width, hole position and size. I could figure out probably. What diameter did you drill through the branch to make it a flute pipe? Thank you so much. Very inspiring. 🙂
