- This short documentary shows the complete process of making a handmade Fujara flute!
We filmed the whole process of making this musical instrument from being a trunk in the forest to a finished Fujara Flute and then finally the music !
℗©Winne Clement
This footage was shot in 2014, but we only finished this edit today, 10 years later!
The series 'The Birth Of A Flute, making a Kaval' was shot in the same weeks as a side project.
Our main focus was on filming this documentary about fujara flute making but we never found the time to finish it, until now!
So I guess we can call it The Birth Of A Flute Part 3 ~Fujara !
The fujara is a large traditional overtone flute from the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia originally.
After 20 years of learning experience, starting with the tradition and then years of research and experiment, I have developped my own contemporary playing style and personal version of this great instrument!
Would you like me to make one for you?

This changed my life. I must own one of these.
It is one thing to to be able to play and connect to an instrument. To play it in a church with those acoustics and atmosphere is another dimension added to the magic; but to have conceived , planned, lovingly , patiently crafted it as you have done several times before , with feeling , intuition, knowledge , experience , expectations, and result … and finally played and connected to your own creation ( together with nature ) again in a church , thát must be the pinnacle of connecting to and with yourself , few have experienced before ! Wow 👍🪽❤️🪽
The original footage was what inspired me to start experimenting with instrument building and researching instruments from different cultures myself, so this coming out now feels like a kind of life milestone.
So great to hear that inspiration is travelling! We can oly be thankful and happy when it visit's :)
Má krásny zvuk...dobrá robota.

Hi, my name is Patrik, I'm from Slovakia and I really like your work, you're a really excellent expert. Do you have any family in Slovakia? How did you get into producing Fujár?
Thank you, I’m following you dreaming to start building my own flute! The atmosphere, sounds, quietness of your workshop is powerful! Do you make workshops for learning how to create your flutes? 🙏🏽
Super cool man, i always want to go craft a flute or something after watching your vids... then reality bites me in the nuts cause mi flutes making skills sucks. great vid man
repetition makes succes! :)
such a cool documentary. I love that there was no music until the end. It would have only distracted from the process! Is the process pretty much the same for the other types of flutes you make?
Super fascinating. Do you have any resources on how to layout the holes in relation to the length? And how deep goes the hazel plug? I have no idea what this all means in flute terms but I like to craft a Laval just for the funnsies
What's the advantage of burning holes over drilling them? Awesome work!
How do you get your chisel so sharp!? No matter how many times I sharpen mine, it never just glides through as effortlessly as yours does!
What type of wood (or woods) do you use?
Hei Winne, could you tell me the messures from the holes in %? Im trying to build one for myself. Would be very happy about. Your Videos are very inspiring for me. greetings from bavaria germany
and how far is the labium away from the top?
ben benieuwd uw meesterhand aan het werk te zien
Tzijn gewone handen hoor ;) haha
jaja, dat zeggen ze allemaal 😉@@1fujara
Is it possible to make overtone flute out of didgeridoo, if it has increasing diameter? Is it necessary to have a perfectly straight channel?
Hmm depends on what you expect of the sound. In general the physics are not ideal for an overtone flute but never say never :)
As I watch this work of art, I wonder at the original process and if each fujara sounded as unique as its creator. I enjoyed the results nonetheless
What do you mean exactly?
Hi Winne!) You use maple?
What is the name of the wood?
't is zoals op de gebruikte glazen bokalen staat: 'Parfait'
:)
15:51 what kind of substance is this? Thanks
Похоже на шеллак
Can you ship me willow branches or other
Making a flute in the wrong way makes it sound better? humans are turning wood for centuries, is that wrong?
What do you mean 'wrong' that I dont use a lathe to make the block?
@@1fujara I´m asking if using a lathe has something wrong
@@ricardoivan3876 no offcourse not, but I like the natural shaped character of these flutes, the shape is bent , so using a lathe is not possible
On the first minute it was painful to watch you scraping the bark towards your hand mate. Please stay safe
lol non carvers
