1000 Mile Remote Solo Camping Trip Got Dangerous...

- Overland camping solo is dangerous but a good plan B in some situations...
This trip was completely unplanned for me.
Another trip fell through and since I already drove all the way up there I made the best of a bad situation. This is one of the advantages of owning an overland build right? I already was loaded with everything I need so let's explore!
IF you decide to follow the trend of solo travel make sure you communicate with your family if and when you have service and if you can swing it, get a GPS device that allows for communication like the Garmin in-reach (not sponsored).
With the right preparation solo travel can be an outstanding way to reconnect with nature and can be an alternative to having to align your schedule with everyone around you.
Do I recommend taking a worn out Land Rover Discovery with over 200k miles deep into the woods by yourself?... no. But I had a great time doing it!
I hope you folks enjoy the video!
Now that we have given the Discovery a range test I think we are about ready for a mild rock test. Next week is the WA BDR which should be a couple hundred miles of off-road then I want to take it to a local off-road park for some rock crawling to see what needs improvement before we hit the Rubicon next year!
Lots of trips planned between now and then so stay tuned!

Everybody has said what I came here to say - you’ve nailed it with this one. Cinematography, your story telling, your editing, pacing of it, presentation - all top notch. You are really upping your game I think. Well done 👏🏻
Thank you!
Not gonna lie, if I won the lottery I am contacting you and throwing all the monies at you for that disco. Man you nailed it with that. I love that land rover ... such a rig!
Lol thank you! I'm honored
Bidding starts at $1M
@@hallamphoto lol
100%
Lol i would throw all the monies at my disco for him to build! Amazing rig can’t agree more
When you watch a dirt lifestyle video like this one. It’s very easy to forget that Nate does all this filming. Different angles. Editing. It’s incredible. You feel like an entire film crew did this. And you feel like you are right there along side him. Amazing work Nate.
Thanks for sharing
The 25 Mile Fire is only 50% contained right now. I'm glad me and the missus got to drive from Entiat up and over the week before the fire started. Always love seeing the local trails on youtube, been up past Beehive many times, such a gorgeous view!
nate, just wow this video is absolutely amazing, i’m honestly blown away we need more of this
Thank you! I'm honored that you enjoyed it 👊
Absolutely loved the video! Love that you start us with a history lesson! And I love your quote about "must be seen..." I often feel that way here in CO too-the camera never really does it justice! Good work in the technical section, with proper experience, and knowing your limits, you can reach some pretty amazing places. There's risk in everything we do, just how we mitigate what we can and accept what we can't that matters. Glad you got some alone time, you put in a ton of work for your family and viewers. I for one, appreciate it!
Thank you very much for the positive comment 🙏 I appreciate it 👊
I’ve done some long solo off-road trips and I’ve been freaked out a bit by thinking about what could happen if something goes wrong.
I told myself I should count my blessings and no longer do them as it’s just a matter of time until something bad happens.
I can absolutely relate. And It's more then just breaking down. 4 legged critters are more likely to attack some one by themselves as well. Lots of risk involved so we need to be prepared
The least visited National Park in the country just became more popular. Can you imagine backpacking from Rainy Pass down to the northern end of Lake Chelan or go north to Woody Pass before Canada , the hidden beauty of the North Cascades. Come November most of N.Cascade Hwy will be closed till April from too much snow.
8:40 I usually fry chopped up bacon and potatoes, onions optional, push them to the side and scramble the eggs, then mix together and add shredded colby/jack cheese.
I've been waiting for a good Discovery Route video
Next weekend I'm doing more WA BDR content 👍
Damn it is so beautiful. Thanks for taking us along..👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for joining 👍
Really glad you didn't provide video for the news, or an AAR/Safety notice. Great video, and totally agree, must be seen.
Great video. Solo trips definitely require more risk assessments. You’re so right about the the views not translating photographs or video. My wife and I visited North Cascades 4 years ago and in my opinion none of our photos from that trip do justice to the grandeur of that landscape.
This is film festival worthy. I will be watching this over and over.
Bomb addition to your trail breakfast: use old bacon fat, helps season the pan and adds great flavor AND cubed spam. Salt for days, sure, but damn it’s good.
Thank you Nate for having well rounded videos. Your content is Amazing to watch!!
Being from Spokane area, I go on day trips alone. Sometimes you just need a break. Love it! 🤘
Killing it Nate. 👍 Your work gets better and better each time. You can see you put the same love into your videoography as you do your fab work. Thanks man.
This channel is so great. Nate does all the hard wheeling and fabrication bits, but also seems to have a deep appreciation and genuine love of the outdoors. I also love that both sides are showcased in the content as well.
I 100% agree that you can't understand the beauty of Washington's northern mountains on camera or reading about it. Everyone should visit at least twice in their lifetime. You will miss so much on the first visit that you will have to go back. Thanks for taking us along!!!
Side note, you will come to a point in your life where your enjoy doing these things by yourself. Be glad you arent there yet and enjoy your family while you can! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Thank you for the words of wisdom 🙏
I suppose you are right, I will need to solo more one day....
This is so epic Nate! Awesome that you overcame that section. Great work, trip, cinematography, everything 💯💯
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! And glad I didn't roll this pig lol
@@DirtLifestyle 😎
This is my kind of thing. I don't have any friends to go with so I'm always soloing your also in my backyard. I can't wait to get my jeep back together. I ordered brand new custom built axles and I'm doing a ton of other things. It's a gutted body on stands right now. I'm redoing everything after 10 or so years. It's a 92 xj
Nice!
Tpu should record the process and post on RUclips...I know I'd like to watch it and I'm sure many others would too. Good luck and have fun with the rebuild.
Awesome video Nate! I am 69 and have been off roading for 45 years and most of my adventures have been solo. I never had a serious incident but a few close calls and was never stranded due to mechanical failures. I no longer take unnecessary risks feeling my good fortune does not need to be put to the test any longer. When you get older a number of things change and some not for the better. One thing is don't deny yourself some alone time out there you can and will learn some very valuable lessons. ROCK ON!
PS: Ask Brad at Trail Recon what he felt and learned from his recent solo time. I think it inspired him in new ways.
Some good wisdom here, thank you 👍
Love this vid. You have a great eye for scenery and a great “way” of telling the history of where your traveling (without it feeling like I’m learning- LOL)! I appreciate you giving us some time with you on your SOLO trip and glad you took some time !! Fine line/balance ! Thanks again for a great video and the history lesson! Can’t wait to see you in the hills!
Thank you!
Every time I watch your disco and vids, it makes me even more happy/proud I own a Disco II myself. It's been said many times but your Disco is truly the most well built, beastly-lookin' Discos I've ever seen and though I'm still sorting my little quirks/issues out on mine and not yet ready to mod her just yet, I WILL model yours as my inspo on the build. Thank you. Keep inspiring, and keep exploring my friend!
Thanks Nate, appreciate your videos!
Truly a treat thanks for sharing dude👍
Great video and beautiful trip. I agree when you make a solo trip to awesome places, your mind immediately goes to the people you wish were there to see it too.
One of your best wheeling videos Nate, seriously. Well shot, well narrated, beautiful venue, and your editing is getting much better with these each time. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks for taking us along Nate!
Great Video Nate! You had me Clinching on that obstacle... hate that roll over feeling!! Glad you stayed safe!
Nice trip with beautiful scenery!
Really enjoyed watching that suspension go through the terrain since you worked so hard on it.
Very trick approach with the airbags on that pucker factor section.
Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding production, thanks for sharing.
Great video! Enjoyed seeing you tackle the tuff spot, glad all went well!
Your not lying about the washout. I did it in a cclb Ram 3500 (4-linked w/4" lift) with leitner rack and CVT Mt. Denali RTT. Glad you got to experience my neck of the woods. Great videos and thanks for sharing.
Went through that area a few years back when we lived in Seattle. Amazing!! Great video work!!
Awesome angles. Very inspiring. I used to hop freight trains a lot, and one of my most favorite rides was with my ex from Gold Bar to Wenatchee. Such an incredibly stunning stretch along the river. The NorCal Sierra Nevada has been my favorite place to bum around, but the Washington Cascades and Southern Utah are right up there on the list. I should give Washington another go next spring. Loving what you're doing. I, too, currently live out of a 4x4 truck and eat big, eggy, fatboy breakfasts 🤣
Lol nice! Sounds like quite the life if you ask me 👊
I'm from North Carolina and the first time I traveled out west was for an internship working in the North Cascades National Park. I remember areas like Marblemount and Cascade pass as some of the most beautiful land formations in this country!
Mate, great vid, production quality deluxe 👌👌👌 Thank-you. Looking forward to the next
Your cinematic quality is right up there with “Living The Van Life”. Hope you do more vids like this!
Bad ass man! It’s nice to see such a great off-road channel representing the puyallup/graham area! 🤘🤘
Another great video Nate! Your videos are always informative and entertaining but when you make one like this the production quality is probably the best I've seen on RUclips. I'd say it easily rivals most of what I see done by professionals on TV. It's obvious that you put a lot of work into them. You are a very talented guy!
The effort that goes into your videos is unbelievable! Nice job!
I love camping with friends and a solo adventure too. I clocked about 5,000 miles in June and half of it was solo. Cannot wait to do it again one day. Awesome video
Nice! Thank you!
Nate,
Once again you have blown me away with your videography skills!!! Great content as always!
Wow, quite impressive Nate. So many different aspects of what so many of us yearn for were covered in such a short but quite beautiful video. And yes, I wished I were there. Wow
What an intro! Makes me want to load up the truck and head 2,400+ miles to come explore the PNW again! Thanks for the great content! Love your channel and your positive message you share with the off-roading community.
Thank you!
I'm glad you are digging the videos 👊
A fools errand. Pretty accurate statement. Just beautiful and awe inspiring. The Disco is looking and driving sweet! Great job…
8:56 "plans for the day" stop every hour to drop a deuce because I just ate half a dozen eggs and two potatoes by myself lol! Excellent work Nate! Thanks for sharing the beautiful scenery!
Absolutely great video love seeing your videos can't wait until my area cools off enough to go wheeling again
Yay!
I'm a solo guy myself but I totally understand your desire to share your adventure. Some things ya just can't convey.
You deserve a spot on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives! Your food is as amazing as the rigs you build.
One of the raddest solo overland vids I’ve seen in a while. Hope you decide to do more of these, here and there, when you can.
Great video. Been awhile since I was in the North Cascades, beautiful part of America. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic adventure and video! Excellent job.
Put together incredibly well.
Content was great as usual.. but wow what a beautifully put together video. Nice job!👍🏻
Love Land Rover Discovery2. Have one and enjoining it. So beautiful nature places. Thank you
The places you’ve “taken me” are amazing. I may never get to them in person, but I can live vicariously on a weekly basis…
Thank you
Hands down the best overlanding video on the tube. I opened my store 15 minutes late.
This is some of your best work, brother. Amazing film and epic narration. I drove this sketchy stretch past Wenatchee, a few years ago. Video footage doesn't come close to showcasing how wild and that drop off is, along with the nasty ruts and angles, on the trail. I've been attempting to describe this to people since, and until now, I can give them a better look into it. Being alone doing this is brave of you and I admire your courage to live and explore. Got my heart racing when I crossed that section of the trail. The campsites after it, are well worth the effort and excitement.
I have yet to finish watching, had to pause and write this.
Stay safe 🤙🏽
Thank you for the kind words!
I'm glad you know the area! Lol it can't be undersold how bad that portion of the trail leans you into the canyon...
Thanks for watching 👊
Howdy. Great video and shots of lake Diablo. People forget that Diablo lake is also a national park and has Canadian water access at the north end.
What trail system was this sketchy angled drop off in? DM me if you’d like to keep it quiet. Thanks my 4runner appreciates it. 😉
@@DirtLifestyle we call that the Beehive Reservoir Washout and it's actually gotten better over the last three summers. Was initially impassable then motos figured out a single track through, then quads, SxSs, then the bigger rigs. My friend did that in his full size Dodge last summer. Super fun "obstacle" on an otherwise mellow cruise with awesome views. Cheers
Agreed have to see it in person amazing scenery.
This is one of my favorite videos you've ever made, great work man. The scenery is stunning!
Thanks!
Wow. Thanks for sharing!!!!! Great information
Thanks for watching 🙌
Wau, very beautiful video! I almost could’t breathe when you were crawling up the narrow path !! 😥😊🙏🏼🙏🏼
Solid video. Really great job editing it together!
Great video. Even on film the scenery looks absolutely amazing 👍
Absolutely beautiful video, God has blessed you with a plethora of talents that allow us to enjoy your videos as much as you enjoy doing them. Without a doubt, very inspiring and motivating. Kudos all the way from Honduras🙌
Thanx Nate. The North Cascades is always a real treat. When the hi way was closed due to fire it made for a long trip to Okanogan.
damn, man! this one was SO well done. the music, the shots, the voice overing... just awesome!
Stellar job narrating, filming, scoring - dude, impressed.
As always, great video! I will have to say you and I have different definitions of "budget"... lol. Keep up the great work!!
Great video! You are the man!
Fantastic job on the LandRover!! It really is impressive to look at.
Amazing cinematography, addictive to watch! 🙌🏽
What a fantastic production!
As you were talking about how leany the trail was, I was thinking "Air down the driver's side, pump up the passenger side" just before you said that's what you did! Awesome vid, bud!
This is one of your best videos. Really liked the history at the beginning. I enjoyed this a ton and this inspires me to find somewhere in my state (West Virginia) where I haven't been.
Excellent photography, excellent driving and excellent narration. You nailed it dude! Good on ya.
Thank you!
Sweet footage!! The air shots were perfect
I love your work, but you have a special talent for videography.
This is absolutely unreal!!
Appreciate what you do from here in the sunny GoldCoast Australia 🤙🏻
Great video, Nate. We will be in Wa. next month and I was really wanting to explore the North Cascades, looks amazing. We won't have time on this trip. Thanks for sharing. Now I really want to go there some time.
If you're bored next year(22) in Oct, I am working on a trip to Moab and taking the Rimrocker trail to Co. and trying to hit Black Bear and the other mountain trails. So far I have "maybe" from people I have asked, so I'm thinking it may just be the wife and I.
The Disco turned out great.
This video is simply amazing, you did an awesome job capturing everything. The opening shots were stitched together very well, what’s the opening music?
Yep!!! What everyone else has said. Great work!!!! Keep being awesome
Amazing video brotha!
Oh ya!! The best sign of a good camping trip, is the food that you eat. From all indications this trip was epic. Ribeye with onions and mushrooms, eggs and potatoes( just the way I like them), doesn’t get much better.
Awesome Vid. The Olympics are my back yard, but that area of the North Cascades holds a special place in my heart and never gets old. My grandfather bought property on the Cascade river outside Marble mount. Been going to that area since I was a kid. Tons of beautiful scenery going through the north pass. Lived in Washington my whole life and still have plenty to explore.
Watching this on my new iPad was NEXT LEVEL!!! Incredible views. And I’m sure it’s better in person, but you did an amazing job capturing it!!
Thank you!
Awesome video Nate!
Great video Nate !!
That was great Nate.
Nice country and your camera work complimented it perfectly.
Can't wait till lockdown is over and I can hit the tracks too.
I love all of your videos, but I think this one was something special, award winning quality 😎
Thanks!
Best video I've watched in a long long long time ...awesome job doing it all.i enjoyed it crazy adventure but I guess that's the dream !
My dad, brother, and I just started a '57 Willy's CJ5 project. Can't wait to get it done and do trips like this
Awesome video. Will have to make it out to that side of the country some day.
The washout above Beehive Reservoir is no joke! I was pulling a trailer when I came through the other direction so the off camber section was downhill for me. Great vid, I enjoyed it!
Nath good to see you get a bit of alone time and I’m sure you missed not having your family with you.
Beautiful part of the world and you do a great job filming it.
Love your channel keep up the good work.
Cheers
Andrew
Super jealous. Glad to see someone being able to enjoy life.
Another area added to my list. Epic film, thank you for your obvious effort! 👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you for watching!
Great video! Great adventure!
Nicely done!
Wow for a one man band the video production is insane, nice narration angles drones and background tracks, subbed looking forward to binge watching the channel, The rig looks pretty sick too👌
Thank you! It's alot of work lol. Welcome to the channel 🙌
