I was given an RP200 by my parents in 1998 for my 14th birthday. No joke, I am still playing it to this day. I have had countless amps, pedals, including other digitech multiFX units........I always come back to this little gem. I even bought another one on ebay a few years ago because I am petrified of my other one crapping out me. I gigged with it, recorded a demo with it in the early 2000's, and received many compliments on the tones over the years. Secret weapon? YES, it is exactly that. I have spent 100's, maybe 1000's of hours trying to dial in tone from more expensive gear into my DAW, only to end up saying, "nuts to this, I'll just go get my RP200". I have used it as a standalone unit, as just an EQ, as just a cab sim, and I've even used it at the end of a pedal chain simply for the filtering/gate. It is solely responsible for me going from beginner nobody to advanced....nobody. At one low point in my life, I had only this pedal, headphones, and a 7 string guitar in my crappy little apartment. Someday it will be enshrined in my tomb.

One thing that many people who review cheap gear only use presets that are ready from the factory, they don't sit down to prepare the sound they want. This isn't one of the best pedals, the RP line isn't the best line of pedals, but I used RP155 for years and toured inside and outside my country and at the end of the concerts a lot of people were surprised when They saw what I was carrying on the floor. Sometimes it's not the pedal that makes the sound but the guitarist behind it. Today the RP155 pedal is my backup pedal and I use it on small gigs. Although I now use the boss GT line.

Incredible processor. Using about 20 years - great. Very solid, natural drums. Good effects. Tube distortion through and tube amp - amazing sound.

I played at church with an RP355 for years. One of my recent favorite cheap tools like this is the Zoom G1xon. I’ve since handed it down to a student for him to learn how to use effects. A lot can be accomplished with inexpensive gear.

I still own one of these RP200s somewhere in the universe of things....... You are absolutely correct it is a hidden gem and could be thought of as a secret weapon if you do it right. It's also a pretty good timing trainer with the built in drum beats, simple as they are. Nice video btw!!

The other guitarist in my band still gigs one of these and has done for years and gets amazing tones out of it whilst I struggle with my SY-1000. I think the key is to just spend time with what you buy rather than keep moving to the next new thing all the time.

I used an RP80 for about 15 years until I upgraded to an HD500x a couple years ago and passed the RP80 down to my daughter. Keep up the awesome work, Jon! 🤘

HD500X is a great board. I found one on the used market, the guy wanted to upgrade to a Helix and sold it to me for a good price. I learned to use it right here. Jon's a good teacher and seems like a cool person.

I agree! I used live this multieffect 20 years ago e still work well! I don't understand people critizise Digitech... In one pedal you have Wah, Whammy, chorus, revers, delay, flanger, phaser and a great noise gate.

    • @obvioustroll3617
      @obvioustroll3617 Год назад

the noise gat is bad ! 🤣 the Wah is so weird and the whammy isn't anything like the real whammy 🤣🤣

I have ownwd a RP200 for years. Great for clean tones reverb chorus delay tremolo. The overdrive and distortion not good but still a great little piece of gear.

I have this pedal and use it on gigs. My favorite sound is "swell". Now that sound is a secret weapon. The reason I'm here is I'm looking to replace it. To be honest, the reason I'm here is to find a reason not to replace it. The distortion sounds are not up to date. Everything else is fine. I also have a Mooer PE 100. Same category. I am torn between budget multi pedals, and using an ipad + software rig. Nice vid!

This was my introduction to multi effects when I was getting back into guitar. Had lots of fun with it until the output jack shorted out on the board and there was a loud hum when hooked to the amp.

make sure you have the right power supply, it's a 9 VAC 1300 mA, and it's been awhile, but i think i had one that was missing the power supply and it was super finicky. i think i remember it acting like you described when i connected a random power supply, but it worked properly with the correct power supply

I have the RP250. I used to gig with it as my main tone through a clean amp. Once I got a decent amp I used it through the fx loop with all the amp modeling turned off and used it strictly effects. I still own mine I use it from time to time to track rhythm tones.

I just bought this on eBay, it's used but looks like brand new. Lights are working, buttons all are working. But it's doesn't sound. I tested all my cables, my guitar, my amp and all is alright. I'm using a power supply with 700 mA more than it should be do you think that's the reason its is not realising sound? Help me mate. Thank you

You said the right thing: keep it for its whammy. Far superior to the pitchshifters of the same era. Almost usable even on chords. Back in the days I switched from an RP300 to a far more expensive Boss GT8, but the plastic digitech was far superior in the whammy area (whammy is their thing as you said). Clean tones are ok, modulations are good. Crunch and anything above sucks. In real terms. It sucks the tone of your guitar and amp. And no, it's not reliable onstage. The switches under the blue plastic pedals burn out easily and soon you'll have to press them twice or more times or from a different angle to switch preset. That messed up with me and my band live a coupe of time.

I learned that if you stack pedals in a certain order you can get amazing sounds. I run my Boss BD-2 Blues Driver with a small amount of gain with the RP200 distortion along with delay pedals at the end of the line sounds very lovely. Like how the Boss DS-1 distortion pedal can make a dirty amp setting sound better. I agree spend time to know the pedal and work your sounds.

I have RP255; I only use the delay, reverb and stuff; the cab sims are trash ! weirdly the preamps aren't too bad if you run it through a cab sim you should try it. even the wah is kinda weird 🤣
