Is there a way to make one of the buttons trigger the whammy octave

Been using my HD500x since 2015 for all the gigs since then if until now. It fulfills all my needs acoustically through all genres, is very robust and tough, and still provides me with space to extend my rig. I use it direct to PA and has never failed sonically. It is a great ROI in terms of gear for a working musician. It still works perfectly and relevant for me.

very helpful subbed!! I believe mode 3 will be the one! I need ways to add in multiple effects or take out multiple effects in minimal button presses so it shall work, and also thanks additionally for the great tip of temporary mode 2 technique that goes with mode 3!

HD500X is very good, but you need to know how to EQ out the extreme lows and highs. That's why the cabs sound bad. They need extra EQ.

What do you think about the pod pro rack ?

One huge advantage the Helix has is the 4 FX loops, while the 500X only has one. If you do have certain gear that your modeler cannot replicate, like maybe a Delay or a phaser with a specific sound, you can hook up to 4 pedals via the FX loop. You can also use the FX loop inputs for other instruments. So essentially, you can use two guitars with separate amps and effects on the Helix. A huge plus in my book.

I used the 4 cable method with Marshall JCM900 for quite a while. When I wanted to experiment with different amps sound, I switched to the following: POD's output to Marshall's return + presets using pre-amp models with cab simulation turned off. The cool thing about all those methods is that you can choose whatever fits your needs at the time giving you almost endless possibilities to experiment. Great video, Jon! When I first used HD500X, your videos were what got me through how to use them. I have a helix now and I honestly miss HD500X! Great video!!

The 4th method will be plug in your multieffect output into return jack at your amp and bypass the cab sim inside your multieffect.

Your info was good except when you said to turn off your Amp Model when going into the front of your amp?Why would you do this with a Modeling unit?Yes you would turn off the Cabinet Modeling going into the Clean channel of your amp or Effects Return of a amp but i would not turn off the Amp Modeling unless you just want to use the Effects from your Modeler!

This is a great vid, useful information here, I’ll be working with this pedal all weekend, just got it yesterday!, I remember when the pod 1st came out, I got one asap!, then I jumped ship to the digitech gnx4 for over a decade,(excellent 4 track multi tracker and drum machine built in!). , I used various other pedals and processors until I got the line6 M9.., now I have the Pod HD500X, it seems to sound better, and more real than the others, just like the original pod did in the late 90’s.

I just got one of these yesterday,brand new, open box., the power supply was untouched, but no pilots guide?, huh., anyway, there are tons of sounds I’ll never use., I’m looking to build heavy modern metal tones first, (Jeff Loomis, Kieth Merrow, Pat Obrian, ect..) then down to doom, hard rock , to clean ambient tones.., I have to say it took me a bit to navigate, even with the pilots guide downloaded from line6., I’ve got a lot to figure out here.

I bought my RP 200 at a flea market for $10. , and I have been having WAY MORE than $ 10. worth of fun with it , at home , at jams , and at gigs ! I've been playing out , since 1968 , and most players I've seen get disappointed by ANY piece of gear , are due to their own expectstions .

I'm a beginner guitarist and realized that effects processor works well for me instead of buying individual stompboxes or effect pedal. saved me some money, saved me a headache in figuring out what tone I want and what pedals I need. and your vid really helps a lot on deciding to buy an effects processor thats within my budget. it happens that there's pod hd500x available 2nd hand in the shop and is like good as new. so without a 2nd thought, I got it.

mine works awesome ....i also couple it with the tonex pedal and it is super....the Pod controls the tonex via midi so when i change the pod preset it changes the tonex preset. I also use the 500x with my Diezel amp and a Suhr reactive load and a Flamma IR Cab pedal....works and sounds great....with the 500x stereo fx loop i can also combine the tonex with the amp or run dual amps....

Needing help with connecting my HD500x to PC but not detected in my device driver

I rely heavily on DL patches. too complicated for me lol. I just wished the patches I get the volumes would be right I change from one patch to another and the volume is loud and can’t silence it with the foot pedal

Oh man, this video is great! I switched about a year ago from HD500x to Tonex (combined with a bunch of analog pedals) to have a bit more compact unit, but today I started thinking about finding a new usage for my old POD. I like the idea of using IRs with POD - this might be an easy way to shape a better tones from POD. I haven't watched your videos for a while. I remember your series on POD HD500x were very useful to me back in the days, especially videos where you covered the 4 cable method or how to use POD in the stomp box mode were super useful. I'm gonna watch your more recent videos - I see significant improvement in editing and video production in general since the last videos I watched, and I'm really impressed by that. One thing that many people who review cheap gear only use presets that are ready from the factory, they don't sit down to prepare the sound they want. This isn't one of the best pedals, the RP line isn't the best line of pedals, but I used RP155 for years and toured inside and outside my country and at the end of the concerts a lot of people were surprised when They saw what I was carrying on the floor. Sometimes it's not the pedal that makes the sound but the guitarist behind it. Today the RP155 pedal is my backup pedal and I use it on small gigs. Although I now use the boss GT line.

Simple, you can buy an I r loader for a. Couple hundred, it will act as if an I r loader were built in, line 6 is pretty. Good at filling a need.

A couple of things about this unit that was sure thing that I wanted was the two features that made it easier for me. One they set up the tuner and Manual mode with pushing two buttons together like the Boss ME models. That was a huge relief for me because with the GT-8 and Gt-9 I had use the ctl. pedal they had there to assign them for tuner and Manual mode which now force me to use a separate pedal switch to use for the solo and extra mod patch. With this feature, I can now use less switchers and cables, which is a convenience to me.

Sorry, unless you can get it for free, skip it. A Pod Go is better, or anything from Mooer. This board is from the last days of pre-Yamaha Line 6 and IMO it sounds like it. Can you use it as midi controller ? Sure. But you can also get a new midi controller with a warranty from someone else. I owned this and the HD500 when they were new and is was garbage compared to older Line 6 or even boards by Boss. Cool editing job though.

I have a 500x that has been in the closet for around 5 years I may dig out.

You can find demos recorded using the POD HD Pro X rack unit from the POD HD series on my RUclips channel. In 2024, to continue using this series, all you need is an IR loader, either as software or hardware. If you can provide this, I don't even think you need a new generation device.

Ive got a pod hd pro, and it still sounds great. I run it into a blackstar amped 3 to run a cabinet, or use its speaker emulation. I only use the pod for pre-amps and effects. I find the switching between patches a little slow though, and it cuts out for a second.
