  • Dusting off this olde relic from the late 90's to see if it sounds any good in today's tone time!
    be aware this may result some nostalgic toneage in those sensitive to certain tones haha!
    So sit back and let each preset I will somewhat carefully demo remind you of that 90's tone!

      Sweet score. Not bad for the price. Yup, that person definitely didn't know what it was. I picked up a dod octoplus years back, and the lady at the swapmeet thought it was a remote for an older TV lol. I think I paid $20. Lol

    I still have my RP80 from long ago. It’s basically the same thing but with a wah controller. I used mine when traveling in hotel rooms using headphones. The thing most people don’t realize is that these had a built in cabinet sim that helps a lot with the harshness. You activate it by holding down the Drums button when turning on. I don’t know for sure if the RP50 has that.

    Thanks for the video, I had this back in the 90s as a kid and didn't know what I was doing. The guy at the guitar store made a sick metal preset and I lost it and forever tried to recreate it lol. I wonder why my Mom got it for me it was probably expensive haha. Shoulda just went with a Metal Zone or something.

    YES! I use it on my acoustic guitar it sounds better than a big expensive pedal board. Of course I use virtually NONE of the presets. Just compile a completely new mix using effects like the chorus /delay/reverb/compression to name a few. I have 40 complete recipes of effects that get a lot of love from people at church. Some of these sounds have an awesome sustain that is warm and works well with mellow rhythm guitar. Not bad for a complete effects system for less than $25 used. Sounds amazing.

    I own the RP55 it was one of my first pedals. The sound quality of most of the effects is awful but it is a very fun pedal. I don’t know if the RP50 has drum loops but the RP55 has drum loops and I enjoy jamming to the loops with the crappy distortion all the way up. The chorus effect is actually pretty good on that pedal in my opinion. Definitely my favorite out of all the effects.

    I use this pedal when I don't want to take my full pedal board to practice lol. I made a couple of presets that have similar settings to what I switch around on my pedal board. It's convenient although definitely not as good of a sound as my pedal board. I am yet to get experimental with it, but the built in presets are fun to play with in my room. I'm glad my brother gifted it to me.

    The amps back in the day only went up to ten, not twelve. As a matter of fact, the idiom, "these go to eleven" comes from a 1984 scene, This Is Spinal Tap, where guitarist Nigel Tufnel demonstrates an amplifier whose volume knobs are marked from zero to eleven, instead of the usual zero to ten.

    • @JohnnyGuitaristOfficial
      @JohnnyGuitaristOfficial  2 года назад +2

      Definitely, I remember hearing about that. The 12 was just an "exaggerated" claim.

    Nice and usable modulations. Totally misleading crunch and distortions. The pitchshifter on RP line was very good, better than the much more expensive boss gt8 of the same era for instance. Remember the Whammy is a digitech thing. So I kept my RP300 (sort of yours with added pedal) to use it as a whammy in case I need it. But I wish I never met this crap in the 90's. It totally misguided my taste in distortion and crunch tone. Worst thing maybe is that in front of a valve amp this completely ruins the tubes tones, both clean and drive.

    • @JohnnyGuitaristOfficial
      @JohnnyGuitaristOfficial  2 года назад

      Very true, the pitch shifter was pretty cool to noodle around with. That has to be one of the highlights next to the funky drum patterns. I wanted to save up for that one (RP300) growning up but never got around to it. I agree...some of the distortion tone weren't what I expected ..... comparing it to the POD 2.0 by line 6, now that has some decent Distortion tone. You know....I was given this thing back in the day from a drummer friend in trade for a nylon guitar strap and a Capo. What's funny is after all these years...as soon i stopped recording, the pedal finally gave out and refused to turn on. At least the pedal gave me some footage before retiring completely 😂😩
