In this video we're also going to look at the broad functionalities of the RP80, and troubleshoot a malfunctioning pedal. DISCLAIMER! In this video I take apart my pedal, but unless you are a professional PLEASE do not attempt this at home. Seek help from the pro's! If you ever take anything apart please make sure you have everything disconnected from power sources and you take special safety precautions into consideration.

PATREON coming soon! Видеоклипы
just found this pedal at a goodwill for 12 $ and it works great, so happy with it! thank you for the demo :)!!!
Omg dude i bought this as a kid in 2004 and never figured it out, just pulled it out after a few year break of guitar all together - so thankful for this video, my 2004 self and current self lol!
I'm learning electric guitar and had this lying around. It was great to learn how to use it. Thank you so much!
You're welcome! They're super fun to play around with. Best of luck learning to play! :)
Yes plz bring me in closer😉Wow watching you take that whole thing apart and put it back together AND make it work? I gotta say I'm seriously satisfied. 10/10 Also the Campfire Tremolo setting #55 was my favorite.
I like that tremelo preset too! Funny thing is now I don't believe I HAD to take it apart but it was interesting seeing its guts 😅
Nice video! I have had many Digitech MEs..255, 355,500..all were great and well built. I also had an earlier gens such as RP100A,RP90 and got this one as well..All of them had issues with either the foot-switch or the expression pedal. So just like your case, it was never a problem with the circuit board(good on u DT). These mechanical problems are all fixable as long as you open the chassis. Sometimes I had to insert a piece of rubber between the foot switch and the the board. Anyway..the RP80 sounds cool and the drum patterns are soo retro 80s and 90s..too funny) sounds like a Boys2Men track sometimes..lol. This is one of the most anti knobs multi effect I have ever seen.
A friend broke the effect and the store buttons of my RP 80. I should try to bring it for repair. Nice demo btw.
Thank you for this tutorial.
Great info! I picked one of these puppies up for $20 used, of course. The expression pedal was dead, after watching this informative video, I was able to recalibrate easy peasy and am now good to go! Thank you for creating this video :)
You're very welcome! Maybe the previous owner left you some gem custom presets - my pedal had two right next to each other that must have been made specifically to play One by Metallica haha
Does the pedal have a loop feature?
@@QuinnM78 No it doesn't, sorry to say.
Its old but its gold!
I have had the rp50 for over 10 years. I have a lot of other multi effects but I always grab this one because it is so easy to use. That being said, it is kind of noisy and the parameters don’t allow much adjustment. Also the highest volume is not very loud. There are much better multi effects available today. Don’t pay more than $30 including shipping for an used RP80.
Thanks for the comprehensive review.
Awesome feedback! I agree i have some qualms about certain cabinet sounds and the volume issue as well. Nothing that's a deal breaker though! Thanks for tuning in!
Yep The RP-80 is highly under rated pedal. Many peeps give up on it because they never learn to program it when its so easy. Its also a simple learning platform for programing high end pedals like Headrush or Boss GT.
excellent points. nailed it. my experience exactly. I'm dealing them online.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. I really like this pedal, it's a lot of fun!
I have had one of these lying around for like, 12 years, but assumed it was just “junk” and “cheap”. I was never impressed with it, but you know what? I haven’t played with in probably 10 years so - I’m gonna plug this baby in again.
I like how you casually just went through it. I remember being just so dumbfounded even after reading the manual. I had the same issue with the expression pedal.
Yeah man it's not bad! There are obviously much higher quality specialized pedals, but for an all around pedal i think it works great
Exact same case! Bought this thing when I was in probably the 10th grade and never could get it to work like it was supposed to (at least with an untalented 10th grader playing it :D) But, did the recalibration from the video and it's working!
Yay! im happy I got you working again!
I didn’t get to the disassembly point b4 finding the bit at the back of the manual explaining how to re-calibrate the Expression Pedal, but it was damn close….😳👍
Moral..? (after first finding it on-line) RTFM..😂
I cloud not use my pedal for about 10 years now... since i saw a video last week and how to fix it. no i used it for the first time ...mindeblowing... allways thought it was a hardware issiue
Awesome! Once it's running properly, it's a pretty versatile little pedal! Happy playing :)
6:00 Pickup/Wah
The Value buttons select the Pick Up or Wah type that is simulated.
OF - Turns the Pickup Simulator / Wah module off.
SH - Gives a single coil pick up the warm tone of a humbucker.
HS - Gives a humbucker the unique sound of a single coil.
Cr - Cry Wah is a traditional sounding Wah.
bo - Boutique Wah is a wider sweeping Wah with a more modern sound.
Fr - Full Range Wah sweeps the entire spectrum of audible frequencies.
Just picked one up for $10...I own the RP70...great pedal
That's a nifty find at that price!
Hi there, I am considering getting either this (actually the Elements XP which is the one they’re offering right now) or the NUX MG300. Any views on which is a better bet? Esp from the pov of the expression pedal.
Just because of the loop function, I'll say the MG300. If mine had a loop I would be super happy, but I have to use a separate loop pedal
@@TrateMusic Great thanks!
My favorite tuning is DGCFAD
Do you happen to know the current draw of the RP80? How much mA?
Hi Rex! This is the most information i could find, from the RP80 manual:
Power Supply: 6 AA Batteries or DigiTech PS200R (9VDC) power supply
Power Consumption: 5 Watts Maximum (w/ PS200R power supply)
Battery Life: >15 hours with continuous useage
@@TrateMusic Appreciate you!
Didn't the Expression pedal only need to be re-calibrated?
Yes. Initially i thought it may have been hardware related but it was just a calibration issue
@@TrateMusic Forgive me for seeming to be facetious...

I've got one of these myself and after a decade plus of ownership, it's finally being put to proper use after being told I needed Reverb, Delay, Compression etc - what I seem to want is irrelevant, apparently :-) Anyway, looking forward to using it properly and this video filled in some huge gaps in my working knowledge of the RP-80 so, thank you very much!
No worries! Haha that's why I like doing this channel. I'm nowhere near a professional with this equipment, so much of my content is trial and error. In a sense, i go and pull stuff apart and mess up and figure out things so that my viewers may not have to themselves 😊
I just downloaded a .Pdf of the manual for the RP-80 and it even tells you how to recalibrate the Expression Pedal! Rather handy, I thought.
Is this thing capable of double octave whammy?
Yes! I recommend copying preset 80 and lowering the attack. It's great for the Fool In The Rain solo!
@@TrateMusic Thanks. Is this preset copying in the video? I jist saw this online and thinking about picking it up. I'd just use it in my pedal chain; I wouldn't hook it up to my computer....not at this time, anyway.
@A Man called Kodiak WILD not in the video but with preset 80 selected, hit store > use the pedals to select 1 thru 40 > hit store again to save
@@TrateMusic Thanks again, brother. I'll see if I can get the pedal, then see about applying this...I might have to come back and request a tutorial short or something 🤣
My expression pedal never worked either!
I just found this pedal in the garbage
Now that's a find! Still functioning?
Here's a spreadsheet that shows my current settings 1-40, the factory presets 41-80 and an explanation of what all of the settings mean (scroll down) docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yt-ABqIJMJH0r_tNIygfeHJgAjCEyvgUtl0kkc6XrVc/edit?usp=sharing
I think the spreadsheet is helpful because you can see exactly how each effect is programmed, and it can help you to understand how to change them.
