    Did you know the Liverpool vs Manchester rivalry started because Liverpool increased import charges as they were against the slavery in production of cotton. Manchester then built the Manchester shipping canal to circumvent Liverpool.

      i don't "hate" Karl personally; I hate mumblers, so that hate is applied due to the transitive property. A mumbler who cannot annunciate clearly makes a terrible narrator. Speaking clearly is just one more thing that does not seem to matter anymore... It's gone the way of the hyphen and the Oxford comma.

    • @christinebenson518
      @christinebenson518 Год назад +1

      @cynic1864able Год назад +1

      @@christinebenson518 Next time I think I am listening to a mumbler, I will have to ask myself, "maybe, I just don't 'comprehend' his accent?" Being that Karl's is not that strong, at least to me, I don't think that's it. The mumbling just lazy, especially when one is the narrator. Like not dragging one's feet, speaking clearly should be something everyone tries... but effort is tough for most folks. However, the effort you have shown in determining how my mind works, & what it can comprehend, is impressive, and I do appreciate you putting more effort into clear communication than Karl.

    What many don't understand, is that manufactured goods are far cheaper (Not necessarily better) than handmade. True most of the laborers were underpaid, but that's been addressed with minimum wage laws. A pack of 10 pencils can be bought for 50 cents. A hand made pencil would be several dollars at least.

    25:27 reminds me of my first day in Business Associations back in Law School. The professor asked us to come up with the first three words that pop into our minds when we hear the word “corporation”. None of my words were legally relevant but she loved my third word which was “amorality”. Again not legally relevant but a good idea to keep in mind if you ever find yourself in a position to influence public policy.
    And just in case anyone is thinking of crying out “socialist” or “communist”, please note the word I used was “amorality” not “immorality”. My word choice was deliberate.

      The Ticknall Tramway became largely disused by 1913 and the last revenue-earning journey was on 20th May in that year. However, a single wagon was run empty in a return trip once every six months in order to keep the route viable. Ultimately, it was finally abandoned in September 1915 when the local industries fell into disuse, partly because the quarries were becoming worked out and the constraints of the First World War had curtailed much of the local trade. Additionally, the prevailing necessities of war and the need for scrap metal demanded the removal of the redundant rails for melting down.

    Britain from 1800 to 1900.
    20,000 Waterwheels decreased in number.
    Windmills decreased in number.
    Englishman Thomas Newcomen's 1,500 Atmospheric Pumps disappeared.
    Scotsman James Watt's 500 Steam Engines and their descendants increased in number to 10,000,000 !!!
    For every SINGLE Waterwheel in 1800 there were now 500 Steam Engines in 1900 !!!
    That's an increase in Power Capacity and therefore Productive Capacity for the whole country of 500 times in the space of one human's lifetime.
    This WAS the Industrial Revolution and it was all due to only ONE SINGLE Invention, James Watt's Invention of the world's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered Engine.
    Take away James Watt's Steam Power and Engines, you get no Industrial Revolution!
    The Industrial Revolution was the birth of a new and better engine, the Steam Engine, after 3 or more thousand years of Waterwheel Power.
