You know… Neil did the whole ending thing in one take! He said he did it twice but it was like one long 14min long take. He wanted to do it all at once. The second time was just little things.. it was basically just one take. lol. He is so awesome! I hope he wins at the video game awards this month =) he put so much emotion into Astarion ❤… the time might not be right.. but he did do it all at once =)
I had no doubt, he could do anything. Thanks for sharing this insight. I'd love to watch "behind the scenes" of him making Astarion, I'm sure this will only enhance the impression of the character. Neil is a gift to the gaming world. He breathed life into so many characters, making them incredibly real. Astarion is another amazing accomplishment and proof of his unreal talent. P.S. my heart goes out to astarion, Neil did an incredible job displaying his emotions and portraying It in such a realistic way, and Larian studios deserves so much credit for all of their characters, really makes you feel for their story
I didn't like Astarion at first, but as I got to know him, I loved him. I did his romance and haven't been able to stop romancing him since. His story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, all at the same time. I romance him with lots of drow and we rule over the other spawn in the Underdark together. This brought so many emotions all over again, Astarion is amazing, and I pity those who kill him and never get to know him. And I'm even happier Neil got a well deserved win at the game awards. I've done Ascended Astarion once, and never again, it strips him of humanity and everything that makes him, well him.
I pretty much agree with everything you said, personally for me his story is the best among all the others - deep, complex and even traumatic, I feel sorry for those who didn't give Astarion a chance and think of him only superficially. Neil did a great job, I can't find the words to describe how talented he is. Thank you for sharing your opinion and taking the time to watch my video 💟
Ascension doesn't affect his soul. He gains new abilities and some of the traits that he had as a mortal high elf, return to him at full strength, after having been suppressed by 180 years of enslavement. The ferals in the cells have not been socialized at all, and not trained to function as vampire spawn without attracting a mob with pitchforks and torches. They are just shells of hunger and hate at that point, blaming the spawn siblings for what the seven were forced to facilitate. When the only one truly responsible was Cazador. I refuse to weaken Astarion to the point that he would even consider prioritizing the bloody ferals over his own well-being.
@@JMOlsen_ Oh how wrong you are, especially since Larian has officially said it's his bad ending as he loses his humanity and everything that made him who he was. There's benefits to him being Ascended sure, but he loses his humanity, he's different. He views Tav as his property.
@@bhaalbaabe He was never human. He was a high elf. Not good aligned in life. Ascension is his favorable outcome. But it is evil-aligned, sure. I am aware that full vampirism amplifies pre-existing tendencies. In his case, he was never polyamorous in life or as a spawn, and is more possessive of his partner after ascension. Especially in the early stages post ascension, when he is adjusting to his new abilities and life-style. I really don't need your lecture. I have excellent familiarity with both d&d alignment system and with BG game series...
@@JMOlsen_ Oh. My. God. You don't have to be a human race to have humanity. Since you wanna be a know it all, find a dictionary. You're not the only one familiar with DnD. And vampires don't have to be inherently evil. You're completely twisting what I'm saying, because you disagree with it. Astarion seeing Tav as a possession has absolutely nothing to do with him not being polyamorous. It has everything to do with an insight check where he believes you're degrading yourself to be with him. Again, Larian has come out and said he lost.his humanity and it's the bad outcome for Astarion. He becomes the abuser. He doesn't break the cycle.
I think if we saw Karlach's 10 years of slavery ...it'd be pretty close... but you're right. Hell. I think if we saw any of their lives in more detail we'd see how fucked up they were all treated. I've been so depressed I locked myself away ... I can't imagine a full year of being in a tower alone like Gale.
Whoa!!! I thought Astarion making Cazador burst, when Astarion ascended was poetic justice, but him stabbing Cazador to death was the icing on the cake, oh the emotions! Brilliantly done! 👏👍
I love him and love the idea of my Durge staying with him romantically... but honestly some part of me thinks 'we should be friends' is the most healthiest for him. The man's had no chance to figure out who he is on his own and he was even denied important Elf rites ... he needs friends so badly.
I don't know about your Durge, but in DnD mortality is basically a skill issue, so you potentially have eternity to make up for all you two missed out on. You can even go old school elf, turn your tryst into a century or so of courting each other and being friends before you do the marriage communnion, then you spend a few decades together and a few apart as your whims and needs dictate. Elven tradition has lots of space because they have so much time. And if your Durge is a non-elf who doesn't gain pseudo-immortality, your relationship is a sort of elven rite of passage for him in itself, the trial marriage
I didn't expect to be crying all over again. I've seen all of this before but the way you've edited these scenes and how you put the audio together.. Absolutely superb.
