Spoilers for Astarion's romance and The Dark Urge origin.
To be honest I was a little intimidated by the Durge. I don't like being mean in videogames so I put it off. Then I heard this song and knew it would be perfect for Astarion and the Durge because they have an almost shared trauma. So I put on my big girl pants and started playing it just to make this video. As it turned out by the time I got to Act 2, I was actually having a lot of fun with it. A good aligned Durge trying to redeem themselves and decline Bhaal with a non ascended Astarion just made for a nice ending.
Also I wanted to put more clips in. I know I'm missing some good dialogue but I just didn't have room. Maybe next time.
Anyway Astarion's romance is SO good and I adore the ship. I'm so glad that I managed to vid them. A silent protag made it hard at times but I'm pretty happy with this. Hope you like it! 💕

Okay as much as I love the Astarion and Tav romance, there is something deeper with him and Durge romance. I think because, they both see themselves more as 'monsters' and killers. They are both dealing with inherent darkness and being controlled by something/someone else. His dialogue romancing with Durge is so naturally romantic. This vid proves it. 😭 I romanced him as Tav, but now I will do a playthrough as Durge...
Ooh yes I think so too! I did the Astarion/Tav first. I liked it but ended up with the preference for Durge. They see themselves in each other a lot. He's also very supportive and worries about Durge more than himself. Which is a big deal for his character really. You can also see/feel the development between the two of them.
There's also more great dialogue that I simply couldn't fit in this video. Hope you enjoy the Durge run! 😊

Aww, so cute! I recently find out that it was one writer working on Astarion and Durge, and she wanted all characters having special interactions with Durge. But since there was budget and time constraint, she had the opportunity to sneak some extra lines only to Astarions scripts. This is why his romance with Durge feels better and more complete, than with any other character. Sinergy, baby. They made for each other by the creator!

Astarion is the only companion who can truly understand the struggles the Dark Urge is going through, as they have so many parallels: Both suffer from an incessant urge (the hunger for blood, the craving for murder), both are regarded as monsters (vampire spawn, Bhaalspawn), both were "created" and can't remember the life they had before.

Beautiful!! There is a really lovely line in Act 2, the night after he ties you up, where he says, ‘just as the lick of poison is removed from my words of love, yours bring the promise of death. Tragic pair, eh?’ That’s the only one I feel is maybe missing from this amazing tribute. Thank you ❤
Thank you! 💕 I definitely couldn't add that in I'm afraid. I didn't get that dialogue in my playthrough anyway.
EDIT : I've found out. You either need to pick some specific choices during the urge scene, OR/AND you need to be in an official relationship with Astarion before the urge scene procs. It will give you 4 dialogue choices to choose from the next morning instead of the 3 I got in my original playthrough !
((I didn't get it in my playthrough either. So basically you need to resist the urge to kill Astarion during the 1st night, then trigger the next night, then talk to him inside of the camp ?
He just gives me his usual lines when I do this :( ))
@@Actaea_ yes, if you get his confession scene before the dark urge scene he will say this line, and another about smut peddlers writing about them as a pair, in the last conversation option after he ties you up. You have to get him to confess before you meet Isobel though, which means booking it to Moonrise Towers first.
@@grymmoire I had no idea you could do that? I figured the curse got in the way of that. Anyway, I might give it a try next time!
@@mrseucliffex as long as you have the fairy lamp (or her magic) you can go to Moonrise just fine before getting Isobel’s blessing. She’ll even make a remark that her magic isn’t needed if you find the fairy first.

i dont know much about making games but i know one thing,making a fun game is easy,but making a game that can make you feel something on the level of a amaxing anime or book thats really challenging.
You captured this romance so beautifully. The brokenness of both of them, the longing to find family without even knowing that’s what they needed. Until they found it in each other. My heart aches and bursts with the beauty you’ve represented in this relationship and I am so grateful. Keep up the wonderful work!

Thank you! 💕 Oh yes. One of the writers wrote both Astarion and The Dark Urge so there's extra goodies for his romance. They wanted to add more for the others but ran out of time I think? Hopefully the other romances get the same treatment in updates.

@@Ljeka I agree of course! They can relate to each other too. It just makes sense for Astarion to be with the Durge. But I also have favourite romances in games that didn't have as much content as the others. So I know the feeling. And thank you!! 😊✨️

Redemption Durge and Redemption Astarion feel like the true canon romance
I'm not sure if canon is the right word here because it's BG3. Everyone has their own playthroughs that are very different and unique to them. Canon should really only apply to the lore, maybe. However, I think redeeming both of them gives you a more rewarding experience, for sure.
@@mrseucliffex I'm speaking lore wise, Redemption Durge feels like the main character, and I say that especially because Durge ties into the story much more.
Both that, and their interactions with Astarion just give a lot more content and flavor
@scathagaming Well, yeah, that's cause the Durge is technically an origin playthrough. Tav is for role players.
If it was your choice to pair them, can you really call that canon? As much as I love Astarion/Durge, I don't consider it anymore canon than the other romances with Durge.
I just don't like the term when it comes to a game as varied as BG3 is. Everyone's playthroughs are so unique, after all! 💁♀️

My Durge has a few mods on. Look at my mods list in the description for the link. You can get a similar outfit by finishing Shadowhearts quest in Act 3 though. As for Astarion he's wearing an armour I bought in Act 3. I think it's from a Dragonborn merchant in Rivington. I can't remember the name of it right now though.

It's Astarion's origin scene where he has a nightmare in Act 1. Same night he tries to bite Tav in the custom playthrough. It's just his pov. It's a very interesting scene that explains why he was desperate for humanoid blood.

Ooh, okay. It's totally up to you! I tried Tav first and then went Durge on my 2nd playthrough. It made my 2nd playthrough more interesting and surprising 😊.

@dottieniu7930 You get the most out of the game from playing it more than once, so yes, I highly recommend more than one playthrough. Durge has more content than Tav also. It just depends if you want to do both runs.

Am I crazy for falling for someone who doesn't exist?
So is that a guarantee that you're going to encounter the dark urge and every single playthrough? I'm just asking for a heads up...... Because I honestly I don't want to hurt him. Not my sweet little vamp. Yes over the past few weeks I've became very attached to him. (Plus it doesn't help that he's similar to another character that I that I romanced) well at least in terms of backstory, as well as other little similarities so of course I got attached. ❤ I can't help myself.
The Dark Urge is an origin story that you choose in the character creator. You can be just a normal adventurer and not worry about the urges at all. Dark Urge origin has more content with Astarion though because there's a common writer and they snuck in a few extra goodies from what I've read.
As the Durge you won't ever have to hurt Astarion as long as you win the dice rolls. Save the game before rolling the dice and you'll be fine. Hurting Astarion only came up because I was good and resisted the urge. You can embrace it too but I don't like being mean lol. He takes it all in stride though and handles it so wonderfully. I like his character more from doing the Dark Urge run.
If I had to guess could the other romance be Fenris from Dragon Age?

When does astarion say "you give me something to care for and thats worth the peril?
It's a durge specific dialogue. In Act 2, the urge goes for Isobel, but if you don't kill her and resist the urge, it'll turn onto your closest companion, and in my case, it's Astarion. If durge resists again and he survives, he says this when you talk to him about being worried about him the next day.

@crystalshards5917 No, because the urge was fulfilled. The scene only occurs if the urge turns to Astarion. You get a lot more content from his romance when doing a resist run, to be honest.

Just ask him about the relationship after the romance scene triggers. You won't miss it.

@crystalshards5917 Oh no, it's fine! Happy to help. I was talking about act 2, which is considered his actual romance start. You won't miss it because the option to ask him what he thinks about the relationship always shows up after the romance triggers. You can get the scene any time really until act 3 after you finish his quest, and he'll say something different.

So was I at first! But I was enjoying it by the time I got to act 2. His romance is better with the durge in my opinion. There's more content. 😌✨️

@@RoxanSmit Sound's like plan! But you don't have to be evil (if you don't want to) The Durge can be good aligned and the game even encourages it. It's just up to you if you want to embrace the urge or fight it. I played as a good aligned Durge fighting it the whole way. Sort of a redemption story. I had fun with it. Astarion is wonderfully supportive of Durge too.
Now i kinda wanna dorp my first playthrough and start as a durge. But nope ..nope i will force myself to first finsih this one. Where i am a good Paladin and will convince the vamp that it's worth to do good...even though he can be quite stubborn sometimes.
By the way forgot to say great edit! Hope you make more! Fangs is awesome too. Have been listening to these 2 on repeat for hours.
@@RoxanSmit Well the great thing about the game is it's replay ability. You can try the Durge next time! I tried Tav first too. I think that's the way the devs wanted people to play it actually?
