(Baldur's Gate 3 spoilers for Astarions quest/romance but no main story spoilers)
This game has completely taken over. Like head empty only BG3. I had been playing the early access for a few years and Astarion's story went in a completely different direction than I was expecting. Which is great! His writing is SO good. I was blown away. He's such an entertaining character that's holding so much trauma. Hugs and love for Astarion.
I didn't want to focus too much on the romance in this but you do get the best out of him through it. So it's there too. Good ending Astarion here because I didn't have the heart to ascend him. He's happier staying a spawn in my opinion and since I romanced him, we all know full vampire's in this lore don't have true feelings so I am not doing that lol.
I'm also tempted to vid him and my Tav but because Tav is a silent protag I'm not sure. I'm worried about dialogue not flowing but then again people have been vidding DAO ships for years so maybe it's possible.

I dunno. There are some good contenders out there for that title. He definitely ranks near the top, though, and is my current obsession.
@GG-lk4xf *GERALT!!!* He was my first adult game obsession, when I bought TW3 for my Switch, then I moved on to some folks in Skyrim, went back to Geralt again, and now it's a toss up between Astarion and (I *know* he doesn't have silver hair, but...) Gale.
f*cking gorgeous. ive been screen recording different scenarios in my gameplay with him, and i struggled so much with choosing to let him be 'free'/ascended, and just killing cazador. his tears after killing him broke my heart.

I knowwww!! I've heard that he resents you for allowing the ascension because he didn't truly want it. It was fear and blood-lust controlling him in that moment. So yeah I personally don't have the heart. He's quite happy at the end of the game even as a spawn as long as Tav is with him so I'm happy with my choice lol.

Haha it's very tempting! The romance sub-plot is so good! I'm also deciding if I should do a dark urge run before I vid them because I hear there's more to the romance there. But we'll see what happens 💖✨️

i really glad you chose a good route for the clip. he can be better than his tormentor, he desrves love, freedom and a lot of cuddles. Damn this pixel man I love his story so much

@@mrseucliffex yaaas! me too! other endings is just trauma consumes him. In the good ending he admits that he almost lost himself, that he was blinded by promice of safety that power can give. he was all alone it this fight for so long. but he didn't break, he confront his tormentor despite being scared. and now he has us and freedom. and together we can search for a lotion, potion or wish spell so he will walk under the sun again
@@cinnamoncookie739 yep all of this!! also good that he points out he was losing what he learned from travelling with Tav. Shows that he's changed since act 1.
I really like the going off to find a way for him to walk in the sun ending. Leaves you feeling hopeful for both of them ☺
@@mrseucliffex When someone points out that you are ignorant, they are not necessarily being condescending. You are being ignorant. If we think of a game world as an organic entity, who do you think would be writing the monster manuals? Of course, the "good" aligned churches and greedy monster hunters. The ritual of Profane Ascension was a non-standard way of achieving full vampirism and then some. Astarion went from being a spawn to being a new type of creature - combining the best traits from living and undead. He is not acting like a soulless creature past this point. The ritual consumed 7007 souls, one of them that of Cazador Czarr, and he was a full vampire. His soul may have been damaged when he became a vampire lord, but there was clearly enough of it to serve as an offering in this ritual. So portions of lore contradict themselves, right? Putting things in a different light.
When Astarion was speaking of vampires early on, his only personal experience with a full vampire was Cazador. And Cazador let himself become consumed by paranoia and cruelty. Not necessarily for soul reasons. He was a frequently tortured spawn under his master Vellioth for several centuries. He drew the wrong conclusions from that experience...

Okay, I will admit, I have watched A LOT of Astarion content. But THIS? This is in the top three best fan videos out of dozens upon dozens. Just...well done! 👌

When I first clicked on this I realized it was spoilers for the end of Astarion's storyline, so I added it to my watch later, finished his storyline, and immediately came back here. I played through both ascending him and not letting him ascend and it was a tough decision, but I ended up not ascending him. I wish I could've given him a hug when he started crying :'( Amazing edit of an amazing character!
Also, as a video editor myself, I want to make bg3 edits but collecting all of the footage seems difficult since you can't really jump around and screen record like you could with a movie or TV show. How'd you get your footage for this? Do you just screen record your own game a bunch, or do you get it from other yt videos?

It's clips of my own playthrough. I used a mix of Geforce Experience and Fraps. Highly reccommend recording your gameplay with Geforce Experience if you're playing with a Nividia computer because it's free
I haven't even touched the freaking game yet and I love it, my first exposure to many of my favorite franchises were through characters, so naturally Astarion is it going to be one of my first choices because I sympathize with the whole escaped slaves story. ( After all dragon age II romance fenris which naturally he's an escaped slave, The coincidence writes itself)
Ooh okay nice!! Astarion does have a similar vibe to Fenris. Very similar backstory but Astarion's goes into more detail I think. Their personalities are so different though. He's actually a lot like Zevran and Dorian if you've played the other Dragon Age games. 😊✨️
@@mrseucliffexactually a personalities are vastly different, but my dad's actually played origins, but I have seen Dorian romance and it's a good one. But I definitely had my fun with the dragon age series.

Ahh about what you said "full vampire's in this lore don't have true feelings" I understand that for vampires like Cazador but there is no lore for a Vampire Ascendent! :33 Which Raphael says is a " new kind of being" that has all "the strengths of his vampiric form will be amplified, and alongside them he will enjoy the luxuries of the living". So I believe he has true feelings >>.

Hmm I don't know. Agree to disagree? He talks to Tav horribly. Degrades them and believes he owns them. Which are full vampire traits. Cazador degraded Astarion and believed he owned him too. I wouldn't call that true feelings. The cycle of power and abuse of it continues with him if you ascend him. Non ascended Astarion also says he would have become exactly like Cazador if he ascended. Which he never wanted. Ascended is very much the bad ending.
Sorry if I'm ranting haha but I've thought about it a bit 😂.

I'm not really sure where he degrades Tav, but I totally get it with the owning thing like this is what he says before turning them into spawn/you break up: "That's what you want, isn't it? To be mine? Forever?" Like I think maybe some people don't know how literal he was being with that statement so they get confused and don't like the romance from that point? Like becoming his, means like an eternal pact like the one my Durge made when they became a Warlock or being born as Bhaal's child. The only way to get out of that being a miracle from jergal.
Hmmm I'm not sure about what non ascended says because it's all about different realities right? If today I had an amazing day out and said it was the best day ever, but in a separate reality on that same day I somehow won the lottery and said the same thing. Both technically would be true, we only know what we have and I'm sure Ascended Astarion does not regret the ritual at all xDD

I think both endings are super awesome and just I see so much hate for people who like this ending and always saying it's bad etc. Like both I think are great for different people and each have pros and cons :)))
@@Astriel-nyaSee he hasn't had power long and Cazador was probably not so evil when he turned either. Power corrupts. Which is a conversation you have with Astarion early on in the game. He also says vampires tend not to turn vampires because they don't like competitors. Which makes me think he has absolutely no intention of fully turning Tav like he says he will. He's such a red flag in that ending in my eyes. Also everything Astarion says after not doing the ritual is very much the games way of telling you that this was the good choice.

Something to be said about Astarion and the game though. It's very debatable and everyone has so many opinions about it.

Hmmm I don't really agree with the writers takes personally as I played just picking to Ascend him as that is what he asked for and he had no voice for 200 years so I wanted to do what he wanted. But they say that because of that I "failed to think of him beyond a sex object" when I rejected the sex scene and just went on to be his spawn as I felt like it was too soon.
Like there are loads of reasons to pick loads of different options in the game and I didn't see any proof that Astarion didn't love Tav. Would it be an unequal and unhealthy relationship? Hellyeah xDD but they got eternity to figure their stuff out, like my Tav literally killed all the tieflings, all of last light etc and was Durge before the events of the game so they aren't exactly the best person either.

@@Astriel-nya You can interpret it however you want to of course. That was always how I saw it though. I felt like I wasn't listening to him at all if I went through with the ritual. Doesn't he also resent Tav for allowing the ritual? I swear I've seen that somewhere. What's best for the Astarion isn't always what he wants. Almost every companion quest good endings involve them going against what they knew and what they wanted. Very different from most games. I liked that about it.
My Tav was the Durge the last time I played (not in this video) but trying to be good and redeeming herself. It was actually a very nice ending with an unascended Astarion. Both free. Felt nice lol.
Anyway yes of course!! I get people can be pretty nasty about it. Astarion is SO popular and there's so many different ways he has been interpreted. Causes a lot of debates about it. I personally don't like to be rude. Treat someone else the way you want to be treated. I believe in that sort of thing. ☺

Yknow one thing that sat with me was why then at the very least didn't astarion drink cazador's blood while he was killing him? Like why wasn't that an option so he could at least become a true vampire? Yes it would be considered a more evil bit of a route but like i always pondered that through my playthroughs of both sides of the spectrum.
I wouldn't have gone that way if the option was there. My knowledge of the lore is limited but I'm pretty sure true vampire and ascended are basically the same thing. At least in regards to his personality change and how he treats Tav. He would just have the weaknesses of a vampire. Still exactly like Cazador.
