Whataburger is hit or miss for me. They have a good burger, but I think it's the only place that I was ever served raw chicken. Not "undercooked" or "pink in the center", but "cooked for 2 minutes", "Pink all the way to the edge", "Gorden Ramsey shouting RAW", Raw chicken.
Great review here, and I agree.......... and I was hoping Culver’s would have made it into this list, and to see how he would have ranked it :-) It’s my personal favorite.
I have a friend who's good friends with the original Whataburger founding family. They are genuinely really nice people so I'm glad there's so much Whataburger love here. Sadly, I live in Canada, have not been to Texas and have never had a WB. Their menu looks good though.

Well, there's messy then there's catastrophe. Where I live Wendy's used to make the best burgers until a couple of years ago. Since then the meat tends to be too salty and has an old taste to it, so I stopped going there. Now when I want a burger I cook them myself at home. Much better burger and costs less than the fast food joints.
We do, but they are few and far between. We have 3 or 4 in the entire state of Alabama and there are 2 or 3 in Georgia and a couple in South Carolina. I would agree with you though, a few weeks ago I stopped at a Culver's when travelling through Augusta, GA and their burgers are REALLY good. The frozen custards are great also. I just wish we had more locations throughout the south!
I'm from near Birmingham, AL originally and I moved up to Murfreesboro, TN a few years ago. Until then I had never heard of Culver's. Cook Out was unknown to me until then as well. My first experiences with those two places were indeed wondrous.
@@aliabdallah102 You're not wrong. Culver's is delicious. And, honestly, Whataburger has been pissing me off with their service lately. A regular 20+ minute wait in the drive through when it's only three cars deep is not okay with me.
Cookout needs to be in that list! Also, I love Krystal as well, was my first job, but it's really in a different class from those other burgers IMHO...
As a fellow Southerner, I'd pick Whataburger (Texas specifically) as first in the line up too. But if y'all ever find yourselves out West in New Mexico I urge you to try a "monster meal (triple meat, triple cheese)" at Griffs in Albuquerque!! Literally blows every other place out of the water!
@@ReformedSooner24 It's either my chain's cook or the meat just ain't as good as it used to be over 10 years ago. Whataburger tastes nasty to me now. That meat is hard and tough and gross I just don't get it.
You can say that about McDonalds, as well. The Double Quarter Pounder w/ cheese is their best burger...better than a Whopper, that's for sure. Wendy's burgers are not even close to as good as they were before they changed them...which is such a shame, because they USED to be righteous.
As a Texan, I am legally contracted to say that I love Whataburger. I actually do. But I also must say that Five Guys is the GOAT. In all your categories plus fries.
Wendy's used to be consistently good across the board and not have a bad option on the menu, then they changed the ingredients in their food. Hasn't been the same since.
I remember going to Myrtle Beach with my family in the late 70's and we went to Wendy's a lot ! They were so good back then. They were thick, big, square, and juicy ! They used to definitely be the best, but not now.
In case you didn’t know I hate to break it to you Matt but since White Castle was started in 1921 and Krystal was founded in 1932 I have the feeling Krystal copied them.
Grew up in NC and just across the line in SC lived in WI for several years. Butter burgers are awesome. Cheese curds too. Moved back home to SC, and we now have a Culvers!
If I had to just get their basic burger (like in the video), my guess would be: 1) Carls Jr 2) What a Burger 3) Burger King 4) Wendys 5) Sonic 6 and 7) McDonalds and Krystal. If I could order whatever burger I want, I would have to put it into tiers: A Tier. I would be excited for these burgers: 1) Wendy's. Big Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger, add lettuce, tomato, and onions. Bacon Jam for the win. 2) Hardees/ Carls Jr. I used to love the double western bacon cheeseburger. It is not as good as I remember it being, but still tier 1. 3) What a Burger. This is just a projection as I haven't had enough of their menu items to decide, but I'd be excited to try more items. B Tier. Content but not excited. 4) Burger King. Probably a modified Texas Double Whopper. Who doesn't enjoy a double bacon cheeseburger? C Tier. Cautiously optimistic, but not getting my hope up. More bacon cheeseburgers from 5) McDonalds 6) Sonic D Tier. Its food. Probably. The bacon helps it go down. 7) Krystal's Bacon cheese crystal
I actually agree for the most part with the rankings with the exception of Krystal's. Now if you enjoy lettuce on your burger, I almost always ask Burger King to put extra lettuce on my whopper it makes a huge difference to me in the flavor of the overall experience. When I was based in Georgia while in the military, WhataBurger was outstanding.
Oh my god when he said that about the lettuce I nearly chocked on my food. I had a costumer through a massive fit about our shredded lettuce at work the other day! Like he threw his chicken sandwich at me he was so mad.
I laughed so hard I cried when you said you needed to call the health inspector but for the purposes of the video you would eat it any way, you just wouldn't touch the part with the "booger snail"! It made my boys come and watch the rest of the video to which we all laughed.
1) Hardee’s and Sonic thudding to the bottom’s a shock. I’m thinking bad/off locations burned you that day. 2) How the Sam Hill did y’all end up leaving off Dairy Queen? Isn’t that illegal? 😁 Thanks. This was awesome.
Living in S. Florida.... I definitely miss Krystal... Always gotta stop for it in GA on a road trip... And then stop an hour later for a bathroom stop. Lol
I live in Wilmington, NC and my favorite burger is by far Five Guys. Second is the Whopper. FG is fantastic and they use whole lettuce and they have A1 sauce and long pickle strips. No matter which franchise you visit; here, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, the quality is always the same. I can’t say that about the other chains in town. We have three BKs and I avoid two of them because the third makes them perfectly. I love my occasional yummy burger.
But you need a bank loan to,afford their burgers now days! That have gotten to be SO expensive. Except for an Krystal craving once in a while, I just make burgers at home . Fast food places either mess up my order ( and I do t want to have to drive all the way back to the restaurant to get it fixed ) or their burgers are just messed up by who ever makes them…too much mayo, or ketchup or lettuce or onions , or so,etching is left off , the bun is soggy ….
They used to have a chicken parmesan sandwich that would make you really sick. But it tasted really good. Only thing I ever liked from them. And then they discontinued it.

I love Five Guys. The only problem is that it is so freaking expensive!!
Honestly I think Whataburger is overrated
Captain Skippy Whataburger is only in texas
@@gibraltarfilms3993 They are actually in a lot of states. Just their presence is much, much smaller. I am looking at their locations list and they are in Alabama (15 locations), Arizona (25), Arkansas (5), Florida (38, really?!), Georgia (only one!), Louisiana (15), Mississippi (8), New Mexico (11), Oklahoma (33) and finally...of course Texas (678). So yeah, you can see that all locations in all other states don't come close to adding up to the locations in Texas. In other states you likely need to hunt them out, so that would make it feel like they aren't in other states compared to Texas.
@@dacypher22 and some investment firm in chicago bought a majority stake in whataburger a few months back and they're gonna expand.

Whataburger gives me life, everything on their menu is damn delicious, from Breakfast to Burgers to Chicken. It makes me so proud to be a Texan
Girl, that spicy chicken biscuit with a fried egg? Turned my whole world upside down. Texas forever.
That Hardee's burger was the saddest Hardee's burger I've ever seen.
Killa Jay I almost had to unfollow. Those ain’t Hardee’s burgers. Hardee’s is from my home town, and the freaking Canadians bought them, combined them with Carl’s Jr. (which I loathe) and ruined a perfectly great burger. You want Hardee’s though, get the Hot Ham-n-Cheese. You’ll thank me later.

Great review here, and I agree.......... and I was hoping Culver’s would have made it into this list, and to see how he would have ranked it :-)
It’s my personal favorite.
I have a friend who's good friends with the original Whataburger founding family. They are genuinely really nice people so I'm glad there's so much Whataburger love here. Sadly, I live in Canada, have not been to Texas and have never had a WB. Their menu looks good though.
As a Texan after they sold out to damm Chicago the burgers have gone to hell

I understand what you mean about Krystals. My Dad feels the same way about White Castle. I don't agree with it being #2, but I do understand the attachment to that little burger.
Says a burger must be messy, then complains about a burger dripping sauce.
When a burger drips sauce, the sauce should be identifiable.
It’s not sauce it’s like a greasy watery substance 😂 I know exactly what he’s talking about
You guys, it's from the tomatoes. 🍅
With the condiments and the tomato juices get together, yeah it can get messy. But good messy.
Do you have Culver’s in the South? Butter burgers from Culvers are amazing ! Love your videos ! I have never tasted What a burger or Krystals!
Yes, but not good, no flavor.

Also Wendy's was unfairly rated since they didn't get the Baconator
I agree. Wendys number 1 here. We don't have a Whataburger or krystals
I personally have had the meh experience at whataburger, nothing special burgers taste pretty similar to a Big Carl.
Wendy's BBQ Cheeseburger with extra BBQ sauce. It's OP, brehs.

You can say that about McDonalds, as well. The Double Quarter Pounder w/ cheese is their best burger...better than a Whopper, that's for sure. Wendy's burgers are not even close to as good as they were before they changed them...which is such a shame, because they USED to be righteous.
Matt you are so hysterical! How have you not become a world famous standup comedian? YOU SLAY US!!!
100% agree. I have been known to drive 30 miles out of my way on a long trip just to get Whatta, or Krystal's.
It looks like all those burgers are about 30 minutes cold.
Probably are. They had to order them all and then drive to this "studio".
They’re 30 minutes cold when they’re fresh
As a Texan, I am legally contracted to say that I love Whataburger. I actually do. But I also must say that Five Guys is the GOAT. In all your categories plus fries.
Yeah true
I love 5 guys but it's not worth the price. I'd rather have Char Grill.
I have to disagree. To me, Five Guys has no flavor and their prices are insanely high.
Five Guys: Baseball Team - 16 orders of fries. One bag.
5 guys is great but their prices are bad
Wendy's used to be the best, sadly not in several years.
Junior Bacon Cheeseburger?
Wendy's used to be consistently good across the board and not have a bad option on the menu, then they changed the ingredients in their food. Hasn't been the same since.
Their baconator is consistently great.
Wendy's changed drastically when Dave Thomas died. Bad burgers and horrible fries!

“This burger taste like lamb” IKR! It does!
If I ever need a smile, I can always count on Matt's reactions. 👍
If I had to just get their basic burger (like in the video), my guess would be:
1) Carls Jr
2) What a Burger
3) Burger King
4) Wendys
5) Sonic
6 and 7) McDonalds and Krystal.
If I could order whatever burger I want, I would have to put it into tiers:
A Tier. I would be excited for these burgers:
1) Wendy's.
More bacon cheeseburgers from
5) McDonalds
6) Sonic
D Tier. Its food. Probably. The bacon helps it go down.
7) Krystal's Bacon cheese crystal
You clearly have an unhealthy obsession with burgers, you should get help or maybe start a RUclips channel. Either way I’d watch what comes next 😜
Man I really should have been eating Krystal burgers this whole time
Oh my god when he said that about the lettuce I nearly chocked on my food. I had a costumer through a massive fit about our shredded lettuce at work the other day! Like he threw his chicken sandwich at me he was so mad.
Used to manage McDonald's when we ran out of Mac sauce, we would use thousand island dressing as a substitute. So safe to say that's what it is.
I don’t know but Wendy’s salads are amazing .
I laughed so hard I cried when you said you needed to call the health inspector but for the purposes of the video you would eat it any way, you just wouldn't touch the part with the "booger snail"! It made my boys come and watch the rest of the video to which we all laughed.
Wendy’s has the best fast food burger in existence, but it wasn’t the one you tasted. You need to do the Baconator
1) Hardee’s and Sonic thudding to the bottom’s a shock. I’m thinking bad/off locations burned you that day.
2) How the Sam Hill did y’all end up leaving off Dairy Queen? Isn’t that illegal? 😁
Thanks. This was awesome.
Did Dairy Queen improve their burgers? I have had their burgers in the past and in my opinion they would rank below Hardees...in last place.
Living in S. Florida.... I definitely miss Krystal... Always gotta stop for it in GA on a road trip... And then stop an hour later for a bathroom stop. Lol
Lol he’s right about burger king being empty, the closest one to where i live is always empty apart from like one homeless guy 😂

Five guys is good.
I've perfected driving with a burger box.
Never in my life have I heard anyone say let's go to bk.
They used to have a chicken parmesan sandwich that would make you really sick. But it tasted really good. Only thing I ever liked from them. And then they discontinued it.
Bk was my ex's default place to go. Bleh.
I adore Matt's comparisons! He's so funny!

Hey Matt, for the sake of blessing your taste buds, I strongly recommend that you eat a "Five Guys" burger, and also a burger from "Come Back Shack" (in Charleston, SC.).
"Five Guys" is a chain store, and "Come Back Shack" is a local burger joint. These two are close ties, with respect to burger-gasm, though "Come Back Shack" is better.
