  • Surgery should always be a last resort, especially for the pelvic floor. Nina is brave and amazing for sharing her story with the world and why she now has hope.

Well, this was almost 6 years ago when she had the pelvic floor surgery. Many things have changed since then, particularly with the exclusion of mesh as part of the surgery and the increased use of robotic surgery. I had the surgery (along with a complete hysterectomy, and cystocele and rectocele repair) in September, 2023 at age 74. Now, 9 months later, I can run, jump, and do most of the things I want to do. My only restrictions are no lifting over 10 lbs, and avoidance of straining. I never had bladder leakage prior to surgery, but I did suffer from urinary urgency (spasming bladder when full). Although the surgery did not successfully correct this, it did greatly improve my persistent constipation and eliminated my rectal and vaginal pressure. The surgical benefits for me far outweighed not having the surgery.

So glad it all worked out for you . I am 67 and have the same thing going on for 3 years. I have a personal question. Are you able to have sex now that repairs have helped you? I am happy just to hear that you also at an older age have been helped z

Thanks for inspiring me! Your story sounds so similar to mine. :( I'm in pelvic floor therapy now and we can't get my floor to loosen up.

They don’t tell you that after surgery you’ll feel like an alien (down there) whilst healing from rectocele surgery I had 3 vaginal infections and now I’ve got a boil on the wall of my V. I can’t believe I even went through with this!! I can’t stop peeing too.

20 mins and awake the whole time? I don't understand... My surgeon said it's several hours major surgery and will be in the hospital for 3 to 6 days following...
Can you better explain what your diagnosis was and what surgery you had? To know if it's the same at all?

No this is not by the book birth, nor is leaking “normal”
My hysterectomy failed horribly. I couldn’t have a BM within a year and got every prolapse except sigmoidocele. I did all the PFPT. My small bowels were filling my pelvis. I have hEDS and unbeknownst to me a suspension wasn’t done for the hysterectomy. Praying to god I get better with this last prolapse surgery. I was pretty much bedridden. I’m glad to have learned all these things though so I can empower myself during recover and long term. I hope this works for you, and thanks for sharing. I may have to check it out ❤

I know it depends on who and where you go as far as you desperately need a uro/ gynecologist 2) I’ve done a great prolapse exercise program with a pt that only specializes in pelvic floor I learned a lot I apply these daily but my rectocele is still bothering me I feel the genie 🧞‍♀️ out of the bottle I can’t put it back
