    we get the four following myths:
    BMX tires being actually directional
    BMX tire treads not being compatible on different terrains for the ones they are originally designed for
    BMX Inner tubes whether they're 18", 20", 24", 26" each size cannot be used in a tire of a different dimension
    BMX Bikes are made specifically for trails, street, or park riding and you can't do one activity with the improper bike.

      I did the exact same thing years ago (26 on 24s) and got 2 burst tubes as result. I think that smaller tubes on bigger tires arent a problem, but the inverse is'nt ok cause they tend to be fold in the tire.

  • @stevengagnon4777
    @stevengagnon4777 13 дней назад

    Naw stuffing a larger tube into the tire doesn't hold up over time. It will eventually get a hole where it has folds and creases from the tube rubbing against itself. I can't number the amount of tubes I've removed from tires that was done to and the flat was in the crease and not from outside the tire.. A tube that is smaller will work, but is more likely to flat from a tiny piece of glass( but then again tire talcum ( baby power isn't the same) is more effective for that) and will need to be aired more often. But it will have a lower rotational mass right where it makes a difference. TPU tubes are available and are very light about 50 grams compared to 150 grams . They are more expensive but have less rolling resistance too.

  • @michaelevans6205
    @michaelevans6205 Год назад

    I used to ride 26in tubes in the 20in wheel not recommended but definitely works till you can fix ya tube. Also used to use all sorts of random stuff for tires patches mostly duct tape tho it worked pretty well if you did it right.

    the bulging in the tube are the weak points of the tube, the rubber is thinner in those parts due to production causing the internal air pressure to push it out more, expanding it.
    same case with smaller tubes on bigger tires, although in works, it will pinch flat easier since the rubber is overstretched. when running over thorns and broken glass, the few micromillimeters of stretched rubber is a matter of getting the tire punctured or not.

    • @emanthegman9511
      @emanthegman9511 Год назад

      So true, the smaller tubes also don't hold air as well as the wider tubes

    I am a beginner in BMX. So far, I have only ridden mountain bikes where the tire direction is important for water displacement, braking power, and, of course, rolling resistance. The inner tube is standardized to prevent it from becoming too thin, losing air faster, and being more prone to pinch flats. I have one more question: Are there tubeless tires available for BMX, and are there also dropper seatposts for BMX?"

    • @lconthebeat
      @lconthebeat Год назад +1

      i think some firm wanted to come up with tubless tires BUT i think they also said they are going to direct that towards racing bmx scene NOT FREESTYLE , i still havent heard anything of a rider that went tubeless on bmx street park trail etc. take it with a grain of salt but i think if the pros aint doing it yet i wouldnt , yet i saw this tubeless bmx presentation like 4-5 years ago so idk maybe they ve come up by now

    • @dethgripco
      @dethgripco Год назад +1

      +1 on the tube size.
      as for tubeless tires, the new products of Alienation rims and tires are tubeless compatible. but rarely do you see anyone using them, if ever, they are best recommended for park use. Mike Fede YT has dabbled on in IIRR.
      dropper seat is never an option. on the mechanism alone, it wouldnt fit on a seat tube. BMX bikes are more on shaving off weight, a quick release seat clamp is the best option. although most new frames has standardized welded on seat clamps.

    the tubes always gets me, 1.95 or 2.1 tubes are way too common and cheaper and most kids think it wont work with their 2.35, I'm like I run 2.5 with these tubes with no problem.

    • @emanthegman9511
      @emanthegman9511 Год назад +1

      Yh Most of the common widths work but I did notice that the wider tubes hold air for longer, probably because they don't have to stretch as much as the narrower tubes.

    • @clarkesuperman
      @clarkesuperman Год назад +1

      Having too much tube is the real issue. That’s where you’re going to get pinch flats because the rubber doesn’t have a good place to go under pressure.
