The yellow Gargoyles weakness is an aura, so you put them near enemy and they are also vulnerable, meaning your spells do +50% dmg to them. Also centaur nomad have no melee penalty, so their melee attack is same as close range shot. You also get more blood rage in melee (+100) than ranged (+50) but exposed to retaliation.

The Elemental Gargoyles purpose is to get close to enemies. The weakness to elements is an aura, that affects firendliesb ut also enemies. So if you go destruction magic you can bring them close to the enemy stack and dela more DMG that way, but thats about it.
The Spearwielders are actually underrated IMO. Yes they deal little damage, but they also have the crippling passive, enabling them to decrese the targets speed by 50%. So they are good in combination with light magic and spellcasters/ranged units, as they will allow you to cast more stuff before engaging in melee fights.
The centaur upgrade is good yes, but I found that the AI (homm 5.5) never even attacks them, so they arent even able to use their passive, so I tend to go for the "no melee penalty" ones, because they have more defense and even if they get melee attacked, they will retaliate with full dmg instead of half and if the enemy is attacking your ranged units, running away a few tiles wont save them either

@@econ347 gotcha, I appreciate the info cause they def don’t do a good job in the description.
Nah even with crippling the spearwielders still suck. B at best even with that for a lot of reasons.
Ya some of the units are a little more difficult like the centaur yiu mentioned because of the AI targeting, but both are def good

@@MutantBray i agree with spearwielder but disagree with skirmisher. Skirmisher has increased minimum damage to his maximum and maximum by 50%, this single change is a lot stronger than it seems. Even if harpooner deals much more damage, the dragging ability isnt as useful as crippling.
Speaking of crippling: there was a little misconception. It decreases units movement by 40% not 50% (so speed 5 units will always have 3 speed, but speed 4 units will have speed 2), but on top of that reduces crippled unit initiative by 20% (much more important aspect since dwarven units are already slow). Crippling have overall very little Chance Factor, but because Skirmishers are high pop units and have fairly lot of hp/weekpop this trigger is not that rare.
All in all Harpooner is damage dealer potential especially if used with light magic bless combo, Skirmisher is way more supportive. Personally I prefer Skirmisher - Id rather deal more safe damage from range and hero before hitting the target with meele. Early Dwarves dont have hard hit potential besides destro magic, but even those are dealing fairly weak damage due to balanced stats and no focus on SP or KN per level.

You're greatly overestimating undead utility if you put Zombie anywhere higher than D tier - even with undead immunities they're slow as hell, have terrible initiative and aside from high hp they have the same damage, attack and defense stats as Conscript. Plague Zombie isn't that much better, yes they can reduce attack/defense, but because their initiative is so low, faster enemies can attack them multiple times before they get their action. Rotten Zombie is about positioning, but good luck doing that with a unit that is this slow. Putting any of them above Blade Dancer is absurd.
Stone Gargolye is basically a flying Zombie, which is to say - pretty damn bad. Better movement and initiative, but worse combat stats. Their immunities don't mean much when they pose so little threat that you can completely ignore them. Elemental one gets aura of weakness, so you put him next to enemies and they now take 50% more elemental damage. It has the highest initiative and defense of the gargoyles. It loses 1 point of attack compared to Obsidian one, but they both deal no damage anyway, so it doesn't matter. Unless you're playing against an opponent who can exploit its weakness aura, there's no reason not to pick it.
The difference between Blood Fury and Blood Sister is better offense vs better defense, so you only go for Blood Sister if you don't have the means of dealing devestating blow on turn 1.

@@Xertaron. the upgraded zombies do their job well, which is just an undead meatshield tbh. They can def help out the other units with their abilities when upgraded too.
Gargoyle is def not great and is carried by being magic immune but again doing its job as a tier 2 meatshield

    • @Xertaron.
      @Xertaron. Месяц назад +2

@@MutantBray Zombie can be completely ignored, as it poses no threat, Plague Zombie is mildly inconvenient with it's debuff and it can also be ignored, because with initiative of 7 it's not going to move again anytime soon. And god forbid it gets slowed, so it doesn't really do its job of meat shield all that well.
Gargoyles are not magic immune, they're just immune to elements, and not even all of them. As meathshields they could be worse for sure (like zombies), but because they're faster and are flying they can reposition themselves and block large units much easier. But that's all they can really do unless you craft them artifact and have them zoom in to block enemy shooters.

Elemental gargoyles aura ability is overlooked. Its only 50% more damage but if we combine it with some arties that increases by another 50% its already 100%. We can do much further with wizards too. Starting on Warlocks luck. Yes, wizard can get lucky when casting destruction magic spells and deal 100% more damage to its already 100% more damage. So in this case we have already 4x more damage. Next is weeks: there are weeks of Chaos (+50% more damage from all destro spells), Fire and Ice (+100% damage from fire and ice spells), Water, Fire, Earth and Air (each of them has +50% more damage from each elemental). At last, we have Wizards Mark and now we have doubled already stacked the damage bonus. Honestly this unit by itself is making destro magic insane. They take more damage from spells, thats true. But you can negate the damage taken from them by using miniarties from wizards specialty ability especially for him.
Do you think your magnetic golems are regenerating too slowly from destructive magic? Fear not! You have flying yellow loo! Just stay nearby them and take make yourself more vulnerable to magic! Yes their aura vulnerability makes them taking more damage from e.g. fireball meaning you can raise more of them with singular cast!
Oh and I almost forgot. Have you ever wonder how much damage you can deal with Deep Freeze on regular random map as a Wizard? Let us have Wizard with 30 SP.
    Expert Destro magic: 30 + 30 * SP = 30 + 30 * 30 = 930. Naaah low.
Week of Fire and Ice: 930 x 2 = 1860. Naaay still bad. Lets go further!
    Icicle art!: 1860 + 150% = 1860 + 930 = 2790. Let's go further!
    Yellow Gargoyle nearby!: 2790 + 150% = 2790 + 1395 = 4185. Not enough? Let's go further!
    Warlocks luck!: 4185 x 2 = 8370! Thats impressive! Lets go further!
    Wizards mark! 8370 x 2 = 16740.
On top of that freeze to the target and vulnerability to physical damage 93% (1+SP)*3%.
Fireball can also be impressive in that term. But we need to be a bit safer here since it can hurt our flying loos. To protect them we need to use artificer and magic protection. If our wizard has 29 Knowledge our mini artie produced will grant 75% magic protection. We can also use Protection to further increase it by 15%, but afaik this isn't stackable additively with mini arties but I might be wrong here. Let us have 30 SP, 29 KN (its not hard to get those stats).
    Expert destro magic: 20 + 20 x SP = 20 + 20 x 30 = 620.
    Week of fire and ice: 620 x 2 = 1240.
    Phoenix's cape: 1240 + 150% = 1860.
    Gagroyle: 1860 + 150% = 2790.
    Warlock's Luck: 2790 x 2 = 5580.
    Ignite (ticking damage 33.3...% damage per turn 3 times): 5580 + 1860 + 1860 + 1860 = 7440 + 1860 + 1860 = 9300 + 1860 = 11160 dmg.
    Wizards mark (100% dmg to Warlock's luck if lucky cast): 11160 + 5580 = 16740 dmg.
On top of that targets have negated 50% defense. Targets under hero command that have Stand your ground skill and do defend action, due to a bug, have fully negated to almost 100% defense here for 1 turn.
So even the numbers can be impressive, the modifiers are also fairly good for your army.
All in all elemental gargoyle can fit some strategies which are impressive especially on mid-game. I do claim in certain scenarios they are much better than obsidian. I tend to use them much more frequently than obsidians overall. Up to late game they are really destructive and synergises well with magnetic golems.

@@MutantBray mini arties' best buff is damage reduction by far. on 29 kn artificier its 75% spell damage resist. Reaching this amount of knowledge is really simple since there are numerous artifacts that increase this hero skillpoint nicely and on top of that you only need to wear those arties on crafting and not maintain keeping them after.
Its kinda necesarry in certain matchups to have it on most of your troops in your army. so even if this aura works on your units, spell resist from your gargoyles soaks up ~63% of all surrounding units instead of 75% on the start of the battle so its not that huge of a difference. Its not as strong against warlock since their race talent can get through any damage resists, but against any other faction its actually pretty neat combo and isn't that much affecting your army.
Imho its definitely better unit than stone gargoyle but depending on the time its questionable which of the upgrades is better. I dont like obsidian gargoyles, they are just an annoyance on the battlefield and nothing else. On top of that you cannot raise them back to life by anything, even first aid.
