  • KSP2 has had a troubled initial launch, being perhaps too early for early access despite the premium price tag, now we get the first major update and this goes a long way to adding a purpose to your rocket building, but, lacking purpose has rarely been the issue.

I hope so too, but the game needs to focus on better performance and curbing bugs. Those were the largest issues in KSP as far as I'm concerned...
Neat graphics sure are neat, but when my craft can't be more than medium sized due to FPS going down the drain or my craft constantly runs into issues with the physics engine or whatever, I don't care if the games looks neat.
I want a stable and smooth running game, not a beautiful powerpoint presentation

It almost certainly won't ever get there. Look into the background of the studio developing it and it's obvious the whole thing is drastically short of talent and money. The more doomed a project is in the eyes of the audience, the studio, and the developers the more toxic it becomes; the more toxic it is the less the chance it gets the talent or money to climb out its hole.

The problem is that KSP 2 is in almost all ways infieror to KSP1
They finally fixed the noodle rockets which was a major issue, especially when they have goals of colony building, and interstellar stuff

I'm a bit torn on the one button science experiment solution. I do enjoy mucking about in EVA to do science in KSP 1, but not enough to have to do the same thing literally hundreds of times, so mitigating that is welcome. On the other hand, I feel like just pushing a button is too far in the other direction. I hope they find a good middle ground, like having to design systems that allows this automation and having to do it manually if you can't or don't do it, or at least make it more involved.
Either way, it's good to see the game finally heading in the right direction after its launch that reminded me of my first KSP rockets.

Some of the experiments require you to be in a given environment for a couple minutes at a time. For example, an atmospheric analysis test that takes 2 minutes means you need to be in flight above a specific biome for that amount of time to get the results (and if you accidentally slip into another biome you can go back and the timer won’t reset)

Since they already had an established audience, they knew they would cannibalize their future sales if they released at a fair price (as opposed to the typical early access title that grows its audience organically as the game gets closer to release, with incremental price increases), but rather than simply skipping early access and releasing a finished game at full price, they tried to have their cake and eat it too. all in all, they absolutely nailed this update. For the first time I'm genuinely excited to play this. I love the way they've changed science collection/reporting. The tech tree, while not perfect, is definitely better organized than in KSP1 (side note: REALLY glad they changed the starting parts to have a liquid engine. The whole single Flea booster starter rocket from KSP1 got very old).
Re-entry heating needs some tweaking, I think. The visuals are clearly not in a finished state, with some pretty harsh, jagged edges, and I've run into a couple of parts getting very near blowing up even at 65km in Kerbin's atmosphere at near-orbital speeds. That said, I'm glad it's finally in the game.
I do have to admit that I agree with Scott that they may have over-corrected just a tad with the wobbly rockets band-aid fix, as I haven't seen anything even barely start to flex, even with radial boosters and very tall vertical stacks. It honestly feels almost like using the Kerbal Joint Reinforcement mod from KSP1, where it feels like the entire ship is now just 100% rigid. I'd much rather it be a little too rigid than too wobbly, though. The days of needing to aggressively strut together parts in a vertical stack are finally over.

KSP2’s science system looks very similar to Kerbalism, and I’m all for that- science that isn’t instantaneous and physical samples that have to be returned to Kerbin are two key parts of Kerbalism’s science system, and there’s also the possibility that more complex experiments could require more specific parameters to work (inclination, eccentricity, altitude etc.) in KSP2 which is something Kerbalism also does well, both in “stock” and RP-1 guises.
This looks like a big step in the right direction, the game actually has a purpose now and the continued efforts to fix bugs and improve performance are always a good thing.

  • @danylopavlusyk462
    @danylopavlusyk462 10 месяцев назад +10

    Get well, Scott!
Personally I think now "tech tree" is inferior to the original. New one was presented as a big innovation but the original one also has tiers unlocked by upgrading R&D building.
Original tree gives player the choice: unlock bigger parts to have easier time launching huge crafts to a distant bodies, or focus on science parts, use probes to keep launch crafts smaller, assemble interplanetary transfer vehicles in orbit via docking, etc. While the new one forces player to unlock part of the "tree" linearly to get to advanced tech nodes.
Also nodes in the original tech tree can have multiple parents and can require any parent nodes or all of them to be unlocked before it can be unlocked. So far KSP2 doesn't seem to have this feature.
It's good that they continue to optimize and developed the game, but I've lost hope long ago.

All other bugs i happened to come across were very minor and i had a lot of fun. I'd say KSP 2 is now as good as KSP 1 stock, no mods, but with better visuals and sound.
