All journalist: We don't like the touch sensitive sliders People that actually drive ID-cars: What are they talking about? Super easy once you get the hang of it. Now every car with buttons feel "old" I admit in the beginning it took some adapting, but when you know how to use they work great, much faster and quieter. So thank you VW, for listening to the real customers feedback. Eagerly looking forward to the touring model...the EV-model I'm awaiting for the last 10 years, still holding on to my old trusty Saab Estate for the boot space.
Hi Damien, VW are definitely listening but we're not sure to who. They've switched out the capacitive buttons for physical ones in the new Golf MK8.5 steering wheel. We suspect that the ID.7 was quite late in its development when VW changed direction on this. We're looking forward to getting hold of the ID.7 estate too. Let us know what specifically you'd like to know about it and we'll investigate if we get our hands on one.
The door handles of the ID.7 are great! Know them from former AUDI models, really nice design and functionality. Wish the auto makers would invite testers like cinch to test their prototypes and then react to their complaints. Since the beginning of e-car-production of VW everyone is complaining about fiddly controls, touch sliders for audio etc. There seem to be some real touch and high gloss lovers at VW. One rotary control for volume should be there, period. And no glossy finish anywhere. Besides that, ID.7 is more than one could expect from VW! They seem to go for customer wishes & complaints more than Tesla at the moment.
We're flattered that you hold our views in high regard 😊 We were pleased by these door handles not just because of its aerodynamic advantage to range but because it works in a way that won't get stuck or inoperable if it gets frosted over. We're not keen on touch-capacitive buttons for volume and heater controls either. We suspect that automakers have learned their lesson and will slowly transition away from it so we're optimistic for the future.
Now that the voice control system works you don’t need to use the sliders. Rest of the car looks really good. Also you showed the range of the VW, in not good conditions, but then didn’t mention what the Model S did at the same time.
The voice system is a big help, although we still wish there were dials rather than sliders. Unfortunately we didn't have time for a direct comparison drive that day, but Sam gets circa 220-250 real-world miles out of the Model S. Which is much smaller than the ID.7, albeit closer to its claimed number from Tesla 👍
A sunroof that doesn't open? Whomever thought that was a good idea was sadly mistaken. Don't think we didn't notice. I talking to you Tesla. The ID-7 is no match for the acceleration of the Model S. What the ID-7 does better than any other of its competitors is taller seats. The seating in every EV sits very low to the floor board due to the battery placement. The ID-7 is on of if not the only EV allows for tall more comfortable seat so you knee won't be pointed up towards the ceiling. In addition, the seats are nicely styled (maybe could do with a bit more quilting), but the polarizing turquoise piping needs to be rethought. @12:00 I would like to see the "always on" icons on a transparent background. This is yet another place where Tesla excels. Not only with more computing power, but in its presentation with more 3- dimensional graphics as well. It has not bezels so the display goes all the way to the edged of the screen. The HUD could be a bit more saturated. Although the ID-7 is sized equivalent to the Model S, just keep in mind that the true competitor to the ID-7 is the Tesla Model 3, when comparing price.
Even though the price between the Model 3 and ID.7 is closer, we felt that it was like comparing apples to oranges purely because of the size and space. It's something that is a big purchasing factor so we made a more apt comparison to the Model S. It is disappointing to see a sunroof that doesn't open but we can think of reasons for it. The mechanism of opening sunroofs tend to eat into the headroom of the car as well as not being as big. So we think of it as a good compromise.
I think, with ID7, we’re going to have to take that top range figure as ‘mostly unachievable’ (384)! Think 300. But I’d personally wait on larger ‘86 battery, and spec it on 19s… maximises range, though probably at around £60k. But you should get about 350-375 out of that one, which is a bit of a game changer! Great effort VW.
Hey John, let us know if and when you ever get an EV. We'd love to know more about what made you want to choose a particular one. We'd also like to know what are your biggest concerns when shopping around for an EV. We might make a video to help with those concerns.
Tesla need to respond with a new Model S quickly because this looks like a good deal in comparison. I wonder how the values of VWs ID cars and Teslas will hold.
Years ago Elon Musk decided that cars were simply too demanding of his valuable time - denying him sufficient time to run his cultural war nonsense. That 4 car thumbnail is just sooo old it ought to be embarrassing and certainly not capable of keeping the wool over the public’s eyes anymore. It’s too late now…….BYD is here NOW.

Once you get the hang of it? You can use that excuse for just about anything. Including out door toilets. A pitiful excuse fo a poor design.

A devious way of cost cutting, hoping the common people won't notice.

People still won't manual transmission car. Do you know why?
We assume for fun and engagement, or because they're cheaper in normal petrol cars,@@krane15
The background music drives me nuts
Noted. Will improve on this. Thank you.

Surely the death of the Model S: $30,000 cheaper, more range, better interior. No brainer
This was comparing a new 2024 VW to a 2016 Tesla.
@ObiePaddles Fair. But would even seem to hold comparing like for like models

It's also worth noting that the range *could* improve with future software updates as they continue to refine it
@@cinch Yeah, it’s definitely got a lot of potential and near top of my first-ever EV Shortlist.

A present, non of the come close to the range they report to have. That being the case, the ID-7 is in good company.

? This is the old Model S... New one makes this look like a toy, heck new model 3 makes the id7 look dumb and outdated
Yup. It's puzzling that they haven't come up with a replacement for the Model S either

@krane15 you'll like tesla when they become more attainable (affordable) for you. Not for everyone

Actually it is. Its just not totally ready for prime time yet. You can run, but you cannot hide
