  • The Volkswagen iD.7 is the German manufacturer's flagship electric vehicle. It has a 77kWh usable battery for a WLTP range up to 621km. With 286PS and 550Nm torque from it's rear-mounted motor, it will do the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.5 seconds.
    It has a good sized boot of 532 litres, and 1,586 litres with the seats down. Rear passenger legroom is excellent. The iD.7 features much-improved technology, including an upgraded infotainment system.
    We tested the range and efficiency of the iD.7 on a 530km, 8 hour journey back and forth across Ireland. Check out how we got on!

    Excellent real world range test Blake and the efficiency is fantastic. The ID7 is a great family car and the new motor, and improved software have put VW up there among the best EV brands.

      Thanks Allan! Yeah, that new motor is class...powerful and efficient.

    13:56 Great point well made. The "waiting around to charge" argument is such a non starter when you factor in the duration of lunch/toilet breaks on a long journey. I'm always telling people this!! 🎉

    Great test and review, waiting for Pro S (bigger battery) and GTX (awd) test as well. I hope to see Audi A6 e-tron soon (official release as well) as it's direct competition to those cars.

    Great review Blake. Enjoyed the sh*tfit.😂. At 1 point it looked like the windows had fogged up, was that lack of a/c? I love the long journey proving range video idea. Our MG4 LR can do Drogheda to Carrick on Shannon on a single charge with plenty left. Keep up the good work 👍

      Thanks Ray, was fun to film this one! I'd say I had air-conditioning on for about half the journey as it wasn't needed until around lunch time. There was a few times I turned it off for a couple of mins as the fans can drown the audio. It was pretty real world use of air con overall.

    Nice review. The ID7 looks a great car and I can see this being a good seller.
    I have one question: Are my eyes deceiving me regarding the pattern of the alloys? The pattern looks really good on the left side of the car, but makes it look as though they have been put on the wrong way round on the right side of the car.

    • @evplatform
      @evplatform  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for that feedback! I didn't notice the alloys, and the car has been returned now so can't check unfortunately.

      This iD.7 is certainly a little more efficient than the Enyaq. I kept up a good pace on the last leg and pushed the speed limits when safe. Big difference was I had a strong tail wind!

      @@evplatformGreat video indeed! When calculating charging costs, you should account for charging losses which you pay for and apparently vary from 10% (best DC chargers) to 20% (home/onboard chargers), so recharging after your trip would have taken c. 77kWh capacity x 95% discharge level / 85% efficiency = 86kWh. Still great but important to keep in mind that OEM-announced consumption stats are based on battery discharge and need to be adjusted upwards for charging losses so your c. 13.8kWh/100km consumption actually translates into 15.3-17.3kWh/100km charging cost. But, again, great video and thank you for taking the time!

    Just about to replace my Tesla Model 3 LR and seriously thinking about an ID7 tourer, but I was concerned about relative efficiency. Can I just ask, as I didn’t see you mention it on the video, why you had tyre pressure warnings throughout the drive, especially given they were checked before departure? If they were too low, the car could obviously be even more efficient, however there is also a concern that when you said at the start they were set to the ‘best’ pressure for efficiency this may mean they were overinflated. Thankyou for such an informative video.

      Hi John, good spot and I salute your observation skills! The straight answer is that I seem to get quirks like this in test cars on occasion and I was happy to accept the word of that mechanic who is highly trained on the morning of the test. We set the tyre pressure to the guidance on the sticker on the door frame, certainly not over-inflated.
      I was impressed with the efficiency of the iD.7, but I strongly suspect a Model 3, or IONIQ 6 would have beat it on efficiency.
      Thanks for the comment! If I can build the channel, or start to get more donations/commercial support then I'll do a lot more of these for sure!

    Why were the tyre pressures down at the first stop? I thought they checked them when you left?

    I’ve got an id7 coming soon and I was wondering about how you found the parking with it being a slightly longer car. I’m familiar with long estate cars however did you find any moments where you may have had to find alternative parking bays or was it never a challenge? Great video!

    • @evplatform
      @evplatform  2 месяца назад

      Thanks Jack! I try a lot of different cars so I'm probably used to parking even bigger ones than this. But I didn't notice this being any harder. The cameras are really handy for parking also. The Model I had has a parking memory function but not sure if that's widely available on general sale.

    Basically it’s a good BEV therefore buy used because it will depreciate heavily in price as a private buyer. You would be mad to buy a brand new BEV unless it’s for Business due to tax incentives.

    • @evplatform
      @evplatform  2 месяца назад

      Not necessarily, a lot of people were making profit on selling BEVs months on about 2 years ago. These days, a few have been burned. Its quite cyclical in the early stages of this developing used market. Also depends on your financing and how long you keep it.

    I like ID7, though I’d probably opt for LR86 spec (19s) as a Tourer. That should do 650-700km.

    • @evplatform
      @evplatform  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, I'd be the same, but in reality I don't need the extra range. Ill do my best to get it on the channel as soon as possible. Thanks for the comment John.

      @@evplatform I’ll watch out for that; potentially also as a head-to-head with the new A6 Avant e-tron (which, admittedly, is £10k more, but imo will target a similar buyer… ie, me!).

    I can’t choose…. I have to pick a new car and it’s between this or a i4 edrive 35

    • @evplatform
      @evplatform  2 месяца назад

      I don't envy your tough choice. The i4 would be a better drivers car probably, more pointed steering and responsive accelerator. But the id.7 has much more space and a softer suspension which I prefer for the majority of my driving. You'll probably get more spec for your money on the VW also. Just make sure to test drive both thoroughly.

      @@evplatformI have test drives first for both cars on the same day planned. I drive for work about 40k km per year so it’s a difficult choice to make. Like choosing between 2 nice pieces of steak… 😅

    I agree dont buy new, this car was about £50k upwards a few months ago now there selling new for £35k, second hand will be much cheaper. I dont like the fact that it’s git to that stage where we can just get in cars and go.

    Seeing you arrive in the parking and park the car around the 8mn mark was like looking at a hamster on coke trying to find a nut. Seriously, can't you give yourself a second to look around and manoever around or are you trying to blend in to avoid the cops ?
