- Today we are taking a first look at the brand new Sigma 28-70 2.8 for Sony E mount and L mount. I got my hands on this lens a few days before its release and here's what I thought about it!

Thanks for checking out the lens!
No problem! Was definitely blown away by it!
Still waiting Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for Sony E-mount..
Thank you man! Your image examples are way better than other reviewers on youtube even though you only showed 2. I'm gonna pick up the lens but worried about dust getting inside like people complained about with other sigma zooms. Gonna risk it for the biscuit
Totally understandable! I would worry too. However my tamron is the worst when it comes to dust inside the lens, and it’s never been an actual issue in terms of image quality. Can’t be worse than that!
Hey buddy nice video ! Got the 20mm toi and im hesitating between this zoom or a 35 1.8 prime ... but i think ill go with the zoom
Thank you! I personally am totally fine shooting at 2.8, so the zoom makes more sense (at least for me) since I can use 35/50/etc all out of one lens. This also stems from me traveling with my camera a lot. I want The least amount of lenses possible to get the job done
Is the lens parfocal? Thanks!
Great man!! I have tamron too...did you really see this MORE sharpness from sigma against the tamron??
Thanks man! At first glance no, but if you really pixel peep, the sigma is definitely a sharper lens, which isn’t surprising since sigma is definitely a higher end glass manufacturer
@@itshunterking And what about AF speed and accuracy in comparison to Tamron 28-75 G1? Lot of users/reviews wrote that AF isn't better than Tamron G1 and only new Tamron 28-75 G2 has much better AF.
I'm thinking about change my Tamron G1 lens with this Sigma or Tamron G2 for better bokeh and AF but in my country Tammy G2 cost over 380USD more than G1 and much higher than Sigma, which bokeh I prefer much more.
How would this lens pair with the Sony a6400? 🤔
I’m probably gonna sell my Tammy for the Sigma as well. I’m a heavy traveler so it will make a difference. I use to travel with the a6600 + Sony 16-55mm and loved the size. I switched to a7c + Tammy 28-75mm and hated that extra inch and weight.
Now with the new sigma 28-70 it’s the same size and less weight than my apsc 16-55mm f/2.8!
I know Indianapolis when I see it. Regardless of the Bokeh ha. Just picked up the Sony a7C. I think this is the perfect lens for that body. Thanks for the review.
Good old Indianapolis! Definitely a good fit for the A7c
Is it worth $200 cheaper to get size, and weight, vs. the bigger and wider 24-70 sigma, it’s just too close of a price difference, I’m leaning more on the bigger brother, it’s just to hard to call....
Any dust problem inside this sigma lens ?
Not from what I could tell, however I only had the lens for 2 days so I can’t speak on the long term
hows the manual focus? Is it linear?
Manual focus works great, feels a lot more natural than the tamron
@@itshunterking Thanks for the reply! So still non-linear then haha....
But I have listen that Tamron is more sealed than Sigma.
I wanted to buy the 24-70 Sigma but I read a lot of people saying that in a couple months there was a little dust inside it.
Tamron says that 28-75 is cleary sealed but Sigma doesnt specify how much sealed is.
For this reason I bought Tamron.
Now it is so inexpensive.
Sorry for my english, regards from Spain
Sigma 24-70 with dust issues and 28-70 with ghosting issues.. It's suck..! 👎👎
I had the tamron 28-75for 1.5 years and I could see dust inside the lens and never really used in extreme weather conditions. I sold it for sigma 24-70 but now I am rather getting 28-70 due to size.
@@LuisOrtiz-rc1db al final compré el tamron, però lo devolví, con sujetos en movimiento hacia la camara le costava mucho clavar el foco, y en 70-75mm tenia poco detalle. No me terminó de convencer...
This thing is indeed sharper at 28-50mm but not as sharp as tamron at 70mm
I would like sigma to make a 16-28 now
maybe 17-28 to hold the size.
@@user-ur2nx1hi8w I really don't know how much the 1mm makes a difference in the lens manufacturing but I guess tamron did it for a good reason
Definitely agree
Sorry - NOPE. No Sigma lens can beat a Tamron. Not even close.
Hey everyone prefers something different! And everyone will have different opinions. That being said, sigma lenses are definitely the higher quality brand, they contain more glass elements and better build quality which results in better performance overall (when talking about the Art series). However, I didn’t see a big enough difference to switch so I stuck with my tamron
@@itshunterking - No, actually, having more glass elements is hardly an advantage. Some of the best lenses ever made have had no more than 5 elements.
In fact, quite the opposite is true, meaning that the more elements a lens has, the lower its quality is. Having more elements introduces more aberrations, and introducing more elements to correct the aberrations happens to introduce still MORE problems. Tamron makes the best aftermarket lenses, and in many cases, Tamron are even better than the some of the name brand lenses.
