I personally find everything looks too small even on 1440 and I end up having to upscale it more still. It's not even that my eyes are bad, I just don't like things being so small.

I could not understand it much. I am having a 27 inch 4k screen and it minimizes things and makes evrything really really small. I have a m1 pro 2021 and I am not getting any scaling option too. what should I do.

This is why I say more PPI =/= better. There comes a point where you have enough PPI and going smaller than that just make it harder for you to actually be able to read stuff.

Good video but read this. I tried this solution with a 4k display, and even with the LG 40wp95c 5k. Now after two years I said f it and I invested in the Apple studio display and trust me when I say it’s just no comparison. The crispness, glowyness, punchyness, smoothness, minimalismness, qualityness, responsness and convenienceness of the studio display is just bar none when using a Macbook/mac mini. Do yourself a favour if your considering going for a 4k display, invest in the studio display instead. I wasted time and money trying to use alternatives.

If you’re wondering how to fix the scaling limitations of macOS, BetterDisplay is a free app for macOS and fixes pretty much any issues with scaling. No need to throw out your current monitor or buying a new one. Currently running a 27” 1440p monitor and can set whatever scaling I like with no blurriness and highest refresh rate.

This is super interesting (and I am a Macbook user), but recently I've been trying to i. fully understand retina scaling, and ii. find out if anything similar is available for Windows PCs. The main reason for that is because although I use Mac professionally, for a browsing machine/ daily driver I tend to use Windows laptops, and the native screen resolutions are way too high these days on higher-end models, so everything is too small. I don't mind a relatively-low desktop resolution of 1366 x 768, and although you've always been able to increase or decrease the effective resolutions on PC, in my experience anything that ventures away from the *native* resolution of the screen leads to blurry text. So, are there options to downscale a high-res screen to show a lower res, but that scales/ divides exactly and uses 2-for-1 pixels like Apple does? This may the wrong place to ask to be honest, but I've asked laptop manufacturers and they don't seem to understand the question, which is frustrating.

Hi, when you say "a 1440p monitor", you mean the lower of those two numbers given in the specifications? E.g. 2560x1440...

Cool how all the videos I've watched about this monitor have top production quality - which says something... Your issue is like DPI when printing except it's got to do it real time and it really does my head in hehe, but this is the stuff I need to think about (not the Mac part though). I want the silky smooth but I want it usable as well... Food for thought - thanks man!

It's 6 of one or half dozen of the other. You're actually losing 4k on every kind of content, so that an alleged "hezy" when scrolling content with every/other colour schemes MIGHT be discernible. While owning a non-future proof monitor that will have terrible resale. Look at your use case. This guy is right if you have a certain use case but I'm betting it's not for most people. Including people trying to watch this video which is in 4k. And a million others. How often will you be scrolling every/other coloured drop-down menus? I do sometimes but I'll be honest I don't notice it. I much prefer having the new modern standard of 4k. The retina fonts look SO MUCH BETTER. Nano-texture detail in photos, wow. Just my experienced-based opinion, get multiple opinions before making decisions.

Oh boy! I just ordered a 27” 4K monitor. Don’t know what I would get in terms of right scaling.

I'm currently using my MBP with an 2K 1440p Alienware monitor (AW2724DM) using a DP 1.4 --> USB-C (thunderbolt4, getting 180hz) and it works perfectly with standard text, no scaling. It's not an expensive monitor and one of the best 2K IPS displays out there with great colors and brightness. If you're looking for a 2K monitor for macOS, take a look at this one, it took me several returns to find this one so I feel like I should share this info with everyone to save some pain & time lol

Given the many Mac users use these programs who do not have the fund to purchase the Apple monitor, why aren't there any 5K LCDs out there that are not made by Apple to get that 1440p downscale to work perfectly? There is clearly a demand for these 5K monitors.

Really don't get the issue. Have been using Dell 27" 4K monitors for years with my Macs - scaled to 1080p. Works perfect. Yes some icons etc. get a little big, but you can easily adjust that.

looking to buy mac mini m2 to go with my new Dell G3223Q 4K 32" gaming monitor. not going to game on it as i already have ps4 pro. but will it have text scaling/text clarity issue down the road? can it run 4K @ 120Hz?

I use 24" 1920x1080p as an external monitor for my MacBook Air M1 and it doesn't look blurry at all. And I edit videos every days on it since 2021 and never experienced any performance issues neither. I wanted to buy a 4k monitor tho but now I'm not sure If it's a good idea 😅

32" 4k is the way to go
