Here's a few more cars that I didn't put in my honorable mentions as I thought that list was already getting long with 12 picks. 1. 1993 Honda Civic Sedan/Ferio SiR/Ferio VTI, the sedan Civic is about as powerful as the hatch and is cheaper. The only flaw is that it's 200lbs heavier. It annoys me that I forgot to include this as I tested the car days ago and was thinking about how it should be in the video somewhere. 2. Daihatsu Mira TR-XX '91, it's a fun little Kei car that does the job. It's fairly okay for lower powered races (including the Lightweight K Cup) and has it's own one-make race that you can use. So, I don't think it would be too bad of a start. 3. Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z '97, a similar reason to the Mira. It has it's own one-make race and you can probably get a win from 3 events at least (lightweight K Cup). It just didn't cut the mustard enough for being one of the best choices. 4. Toyota Corolla Levin BZ-G '96, another decent starter car from Toyota for lowered power events. I just didn't included it for the best as I still think the 3 Toyotas I picked were better, plus I think putting 4 Toyota models would be pushing it. Note: Not available as a starter in the NTSC version. 5. Toyota Mark II, similar to the Levin above. Also not available to start with in the NTSC release. 6. Nissan Primera 2.0Te '95, I mentioned the '91. So, considered this in the same spot with the 1991 model. Note: You can only start with this in the PAL Version.
Funny you list the '97 Alto and not the '90 Alto which has the exact same specs (even if fully modified) and is 4000 credits cheaper, does the '90 Alto don't appear in every version of the game?

Your top 5 vs my top 5 1. RX7 GTX, probably one of if not most expensive starter BUT it's a FULL GAME car with a high modification tree and its turboed. 2. AE86 1983, great tuner and great handling car with applications in 4 categories 3. 1993 Civic Si Hatch or sedan, you placed it in honorable mentions but its cheapness and versatility is highly underrated IMO 4. 94 Celica, similar reasons as the civic although its starting cost is about 4k higher 5. 96 Accord Sedan [my personal favorite as it was MY IRL 1st car] handles extremely well and is STABLE for an FF car on par with Civic Si sedan imo And finally 1 extra 1993 Supra Turbo it's the speed runners car of choice but for those that like a sporty feel this car definitely doesn't have it but its FAST and light compared to the RZ
Late reply, sorry: If I did a top 5, it actually would more likely go like this and my reasons are about the same. 1. Mk.3 Toyota Supra Turbo, I stand by my opinion when I say that this (or the Twin Turbo R if you have the PAL version) is the best car to start with. It's faster and cheaper than most of the other cars you can start with plus having room for upgrades at the start. 2. FC Mazda RX-7 Infini III 3. 1991 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R (as I mentioned before), it just handles better imo than any of the other hatchbacks I've seen and accelerates quicker. Plus having a tad bit of money left for upgrades at the start. 4. 1991 Toyota Celica GT-Four RC (ST185) 5. 1991 Honda Prelude Si VTEC (4th Gen) Your top 5 is fine except for one problem, you can't buy a Honda Accord at all in the start of GT2. I've checked multiple times, at least on NTSC v1.1, the Japan and the PAL versions anyway. There were none I saw for under 10,000 credits. Hence why I didn't mention it and just picked the Civic and Prelude instead. Also, I actually only put the Civic Sedan in honorable mentions. If you watch the video again, you'll see that I did put the Hatch on my main list. :)
@@RandomCarGuy17 I run an emulator idk if that messes with the lists but 2 out of 5 times the accord is there... Also i commented early i apologize your list is great
Man, picking cars in the GT series is just like picking a Pokemon starter😂😂.And always good vid tho. By the way is this list valid throughout all GT games?
Late reply: Sorry, I don't think I saw your question initially when you commented this. Anyway, it isn't valid in all GT games. It really couldn't be, which is why I made lists for the first 4 GT titles. Each GT game gives you different options on what you can start with, so you're not going to get the same result in GT4 as GT1 for instance. Another reason is that some cars on this list either will not appear in the other GT games, end up being too expensive for the starting budget in those games, or both. I.E. You can start with a EG Civic for GT1,2, & 4, but the EG Civic in GT3 will be over the 18,000cr budget you have. The Nissan Pulsar GTI-R I listed here isn't in GT3 and onwards and while it's in GT1, it costs more in that game. Probably because it's not as old as it is in GT2.
i always start with the MA70 Supra coz it's a no brainer, used to try EP82 Starlet or Cyborg R to no avail until i realize that there are more events than the one makes lmao..
To my understanding the best starter car is either the '87 Starlet or the GTI-R, because both are the best cars elegible for certain manufacturer events (Starlet and Pulsar/Sunny respectively). Both get outperformed by better cars you need to buy/win to do other manufacturer races (GT-R which is also turbo and 4wd like the GTI-R and Golf 1.8 which is also fwd and turbo like the Starlet). While the GTI-R is much faster than the Starlet, the Starlet is between the 30 best fwd cars of the game, given that the fastest cars in the game are 4WD, the Pulsar isn't near that number, also the Starlet is cheaper than the GTI-R The Super Turbo needs to be bought because it's the fastest and cheapest choice for the March/Micra event but gets outperformed by another turbo fwd car... the '87 Starlet. Funnily enough, the Starlet is cheaper than the Super Turbo so you get more bang for your buck. I usually go with either the '83 Trueno (although it gets listed as the '85 model on the classifieds) or the MR2 which is cheaper.
Great selection, I did have some fun with the March and Starlet. However, I just couldn't justify thinking they were better to start with over other cars within their makes. Though I'm guessing you're judging the cars by long term, I was only thinking about how they are on day 1.
'91 celica gtfour, win a few races and upgrade it to win trial mountain 30 laps endurance and there you, a good car and a good amount of money to avoid financial problems.
I still remember when I was little trying it for the first time and being shocked by how fast it was compared to the AI. No modifications needed at the start, it was ready to go.
I'm using ePSXe v1.9.0 to play this on and I'm using some kind of gpu that came with the emulator. It's a version of Pete's PSX GPU plugin, I believe. There's also another emulator than can make the game look better (I'm told) called PCSXR, but I tried it and I didn't like it.

I recently started replaying GT2 and I am glad I picked the R32 Skyline GTS-t Type M. It seems almost ideal to learn FR driving in as it's almost perfectly balanced, as opposed to the S13 Silvia which lurches between oversteer and understeer and feels very mushy in general. I have heard Silvias called (unflatteringly) "Japanese Mustangs" and I can see why; would you rather have a Japanese S195 V6 Mustang or a Japanese E36 3-series? To me the choice is clear--the Silvia is overrated. With tuning it will remain competitive all the way up to the Euro/Pacific Leagues too. EDIT: a big shame they screwed up the drivetrain on the Skyline 280 MR, because I love RWD Skylines and would have loved to take one all the way to endgame. The Tommykaira M30 has power but it doesn't have racing modification so it's no good for the World Championship.

@@RandomCarGuy17 it's definitely not as bad as I made it sound. But those L turns in Rome Circuit will do it sometimes. Sometimes the tight turns in Grindlewald will do it too. Not often. Usually when I'm in a race.
@@this_connor_guy Ah, you're referring to those tracks. The trick is to just approach them more carefully, especially on tracks like Grindelwald with elevation changes. GT2's physics can get wonky with hilly sections. It happens honestly with any car with more power.
@@RandomCarGuy17 glad to hear it's not just me, haha! Grindelwald has been the bane of my existence.
Oh yes the starlet glanza that was my starter car in the game small agile and really impresive speed and power when fully upgraded
Your top 5 vs my top 5
1. RX7 GTX, probably one of if not most expensive starter BUT it's a FULL GAME car with a high modification tree and its turboed.
2. AE86 1983, great tuner and great handling car with applications in 4 categories
3. 1993 Civic Si Hatch or sedan, you placed it in honorable mentions but its cheapness and versatility is highly underrated IMO
4. 94 Celica, similar reasons as the civic although its starting cost is about 4k higher
5. 96 Accord Sedan [my personal favorite as it was MY IRL 1st car] handles extremely well and is STABLE for an FF car on par with Civic Si sedan imo
And finally 1 extra
1993 Supra Turbo it's the speed runners car of choice but for those that like a sporty feel this car definitely doesn't have it but its FAST and light compared to the RZ
Late reply, sorry:
If I did a top 5, it actually would more likely go like this and my reasons are about the same.
1. Mk.3 Toyota Supra Turbo, I stand by my opinion when I say that this (or the Twin Turbo R if you have the PAL version) is the best car to start with. It's faster and cheaper than most of the other cars you can start with plus having room for upgrades at the start.
2. FC Mazda RX-7 Infini III
3. 1991 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R (as I mentioned before), it just handles better imo than any of the other hatchbacks I've seen and accelerates quicker. Plus having a tad bit of money left for upgrades at the start.
4. 1991 Toyota Celica GT-Four RC (ST185)
5. 1991 Honda Prelude Si VTEC (4th Gen)
Your top 5 is fine except for one problem, you can't buy a Honda Accord at all in the start of GT2.
Also i commented early i apologize your list is great
The Pulsar was always my go to first car, serious bhp for the price and helped me stockpile cash from constantly running the Sunday Cup with ease!
It was such a menace in earlier races to where I could use it to win a few prize cars early on with it.
@@RandomCarGuy17 No worries bro, thanks for the reply👍
@@mizuno92767 Oh for sure, no problem. :)
i always start with the MA70 Supra coz it's a no brainer, used to try EP82 Starlet or Cyborg R to no avail until i realize that there are more events than the one makes lmao..
the Prelude! always the Prelude!
Thanks for this!
No problem.
When you realize theres a GTS-t in the game and youre a drifting junkie
I think I started with a silver Celica, does that sound right? I forgot because I was like 7, and I sold it when my garage was full
It sounds right, it sounds like either a Celica GT-R or the 1988 Celica GT-Four.
Hi there. Could you please tell me the name of the first song. It's obviously a remix of My Favourite Game, but which exactly
It's listed in the description.
@@RandomCarGuy17 My thanks to you. Keep up the good work.
I always either pick the Prelude V-Tec, the RX-7 or the Supra as my first car.
Hell yeah the GTI-R and the Civic pack a punch for starters
I start this game 2008, my one car civic 3 door - color green lausanne. Gran 1 civic - tahiti green.
While the GTI-R is much faster than the Starlet, the Starlet is between the 30 best fwd cars of the game, given that the fastest cars in the game are 4WD, the Pulsar isn't near that number, also the Starlet is cheaper than the GTI-R
The Super Turbo needs to be bought because it's the fastest and cheapest choice for the March/Micra event but gets outperformed by another turbo fwd car... the '87 Starlet.
In GT1 and GT2, tha best car to start the Simulation Mode always was the Toyota Supra :D
'91 celica gtfour, win a few races and upgrade it to win trial mountain 30 laps endurance and there you, a good car and a good amount of money to avoid financial problems.
I've always picked Trueno or Levin when i started playing, i can't believe what a Truenophilic i am
I always was a Pulsar guy. And always will be.
I still remember when I was little trying it for the first time and being shocked by how fast it was compared to the AI. No modifications needed at the start, it was ready to go.
i have always started with Cyborg-R :P
Where are you playing to make the game look so smooth?
I'm using ePSXe v1.9.0 to play this on and I'm using some kind of gpu that came with the emulator. It's a version of Pete's PSX GPU plugin, I believe.
There's also another emulator than can make the game look better (I'm told) called PCSXR, but I tried it and I didn't like it.
Look up Duck Station as well. Completely free and does great upscaling.
i used to always start with Supra MK3, Usually, if you wait 3 days and then browse used car lot, you will find it and still have some money left but it can give you lots of wins then you can upgrade or turbo
Alright, very good. Though, you shouldn't have to wait 3 days to get it. It's there on day 1.
@@RandomCarGuy17 i don't quite remember, but the version here is always the same thing, wait 3 days until black or white supra 1989 will show up in used lot, i
@@al3zmi I guess it's the version of GT2 you were playing. Did you play PAL, NTSC, or the Japanese version?
Also to note, the used car list won't change until 10 days pass.
@@RandomCarGuy17 I think MENA region uses European verison but it does change every 3 days in that verison; I could be wrong im just going by memory, cuz I know I always start with the 1989 Supra
@@al3zmi I think you might just not be remembering right. It doesn't matter what version of GT2 you play, the UCD list change will always be every 10 days.
Thankyou my friends
My dad always thinks that the FTO is the best, though.
That's fine, I don't agree with your dad's opinion considering there are faster cars stock, but okay.
Could you do a video on the most cost efficient upgrades? I'm wondering if there's some logic to it other than just dumping tons of HP for the lowest cost, since muffler and turbo seem to be the best upgrades.
It's not really a video I'm interested in doing, so no. With that said, I don't think there's much I could say in that list other than the performance chip and stage 1 weight reduction.
The Mirage was my first car when when I played GT2 as a kid. Can't remember what it was on GT1
First for me in simulation mode was the 1991 Celica GT-R in GT2, 1993 Civic 3-Door Si in GT1.
@@RandomCarGuy17 Just started playing again. Damn the license tests 😆
You can buy the Celica GT4 on PAL copies as well...
I meant at the start, I played the PAL release myself making this video and didn't see one ST185 GT-Four available at the start. I saw a ST165, but that part of the video wasn't for that car.
Always needs to started this Supra 93.
Because you need something more speed hp and not some slow hp.
Playing GT 1&2 on my anbernic rg351p. Looks good and with perfekt performance.
toilet seasons are way better now... But longer 😂
1 RX-7 GT-X 2 Supra 2.5 Turbo (276HP) 3 Starlet 87 - that's what my over 20y experience is telling me :)
My over 20y experience would lead me to agree with you except for the Starlet. I would drive a Celica GT-Four and Pulsar GTI-R over the Starlet.
@@RandomCarGuy17 Startlet coz it lets You compete in low hp races and fully modified is kicking asses of 500hp cars :)
Infiniti G20 isn’t a good pick but I choose it sometimes because my brother used to own one back then.
My choice was a Mazda Demio GLX. I grind the race of the Lightweight K Cup with it and start the career with a Mugen CRX or buy a Pulsar.
Was always, always, for me Prelude VTEC, Mazda RX7 FC Turbo, or Civic Si, or Cyborg R.
If I played this game tomorrow, I'm taking the mkiii supra
Skyline, always the Skyline
_WHAT YOUR STARTER CAR SAYS ABOUT YOU:_
1. Pulsar/Supra Turbo/License Car: Sweaty try-hard
2. Miata/Civic/Skyline: Hopeless fanboy/fangirl
3. FWD/AWD: wtf is throttle control?
4. RX-7: At least in video games it’s reliable
5. Daihatsu: Masochistic Memer
6. AE86/Vitz: Chaotic Memer
7. Fiat 500R: GAME OVER
8. Honda: REEEEEtec
9. Escudo: Wait! What the f-, you cheated didn’t you…?
Heh!
Though, I wouldn't say I was trying too hard at the game. The Supra and Pulsar honestly make earlier races effortless for me.
@@RandomCarGuy17 That's alright honestly.
Meanwhile, I'm a Skyline fanboy who needs to destroy his early game economy just to get his both literally and figuratively discount Skyline to race properly in the later races.
The upgrades don't even scale that well either, but at least I have a SKYLINE.
:D
Wow... Most of these used cars from 90s and 80s are now nearly extinct in junkyards rusting away or beyond reach the average Consumer as they have become rare and expensive to buy in good condition and alot of them are sport turbo version for Japanese market only
i will recommand toyota Supra 91" second hand car with 276 bhp for starter... It cost around $7000_9000... i still palyin this till now...
Alright, I have aswell. BTW, the Supra you're thinking about is the Mk.3 Twin Turbo R and it costs 9,405 cr at the start, but only on the PAL version.
@@RandomCarGuy17 Yup.. thats the one i use from the start... You can win a lot of race with classic beast...
The supra is good at drifting too if you want to do that in arcade mode
currently playing this on 2024
Can you believe i'm start with starlet turbo 🤣
No AE86?
Watch the final part of the video again please. I mentioned it in the honorable mentions.
Gran Turismo is the best races for me🙂. I have a series of videos on the YT channel from races on ps5🏁🏎️
My best cars for the starter from 295 hp until i bought suzuki escudo pikes peak:
1. Honda civic 3 door si 93. The fastest car in 295 when you compete against ford GT 40 that entered the 295-hp tournament illegally cuz it has 305 hp.
2. Mitsubishi FTO 99
3. Infinity G20 2.0 TE 91
4. Celica 97
5. Nissan silvia 2.000 cc ks 91
How on Earth did you get a 1999 FTO or 1997 Celica at the start?
@@RandomCarGuy17 Oh i mean, i always used honda civic 3 door si 93 cuz the price is below $10,000. Moreover, that car is very powerful so i could earn money much faster
My beat is Mitsubishi fto because sport 6 cylinders engine cool beautiful provocative sound and sport
mazda rx-7 is the best starter car in my opinion
1990 Mazda rx7 Infiniti 3
Nissan Silvia KS turbo all the way since GT 1
I choose either the Honda Civic or a Skyline nowadays
Cool, pick whatever works for you.
Mitsubishi FTO 👍
AE86 is a god in gt 2.

I should have watched this video before picking the FIAT500.
I've had to lose about 100 races just to upgrade my car! The car is terrible, even maxed out.
That is terrible, why didn't you stop after the first try? Anything in East City is better than the Fiat 500.
Best starting car is always GT One (if considered having licenses)
It is, but no gold prize cars are allowed in this video.
@@RandomCarGuy17 understood from the vid 😉
@@Martinec1998Alright, but why did you point it out then? I know I told people to share their preferred starter cars, but I was thinking of the cars you bought in the dealerships.
@@RandomCarGuy17 OK then... I finished GT2 so many times, even this no licence way, asi a small kid I hated oversteer and always bought Prelude, later (and in most cases) FC RX-7 and once tried Supra but still prefer RX-7 over Supra because Supra felt a bit like a boat for me. Agreed with every car in vid, also that featherweight Civic is pocket rocket when maxed out and useful for that IB touring (JTCC X BTCC) challenge
@@Martinec1998 Alright then, good...good. I think there was a time where I kept starting with Civics as a kid or with the Celica GT-Four RC. Though when I was a kid, RWD cars were hard to drive. I remember spinning out a few times in a Silvia S13 for instance.
The best starter car in gran turismo is not a car you buy
It is in this list, I'm not allowing Gold License prize cars. Of course those are better to start with, but that would've been a boring video to make.
Green Supra twin turbo 276 has is best not counting gold medal licences
