    I (Max) took the new S22 Ultra and the 13 Pro Max home over the night and I took a BUNCH of photos with each of them and I put them all together in a video timeline.
    Vadim & Angelika have never seen any of these photos, so they have no idea which photo was taken by which smartphone, so that makes this the MOST UNBIASED camera comparison possible!
    I took shots with every single lens from the selfie camera, to the main wide shooter, the ultrawide lens and some zoom shots as well.
    I also tested Portrait shots, Night Mode shots and even Night Mode portrait shots to see which smartphone camera is the BEST in 2022!

      I feel like for both the phone portrait shots, y’all need to use the inbuilt photo editor to adjust the blur, just saying that it would be fair since you’re not exactly modifying the colours or other details except for a blur filter.

    Wow! That Samsung is looking great without any camera updates. Excited to see what happens with a couple of updates to optimize everything. I don't think many people use 8K. It takes up way too much memory & the 4K looks nice so no need. That 10X at night is really surprising. Hope they fix that.

    • @ronangan
      @ronangan 2 года назад +28

      If you want to take a 8K footage, it has to be under very good lighting and with a stabilizer... Missing one of those, you'll surely get crappy footage...

    • @EggTamago7
      @EggTamago7 2 года назад +15

      I don’t know if there’s really any fixing the 10x at night. It’s a f/4.9 lens, meaning it’s going to be pretty useless in the dark. On top of that, the degree to which you can leave the shutter open is reduced because you need to compensate for the long focal length. I think they made the right call with what they have to work with, tbh. The zoom range in good light is super impressive regardless.

    You can use pro mode to pick your lens and not let the phone decide in low light.
    Also, you can see which lens something was shot in just by seeing the details when viewing a photo.
    f2.2 2.20mm is Ultra Wide,
    f1.8 6.40mm is the regular lens,
    f2.4 7.90mm is the 3x
    f4.9 27.20mm is the 10x
    Be mindful of the phone using "detail enhancer" , its that little yellow prompt at the bottom left when you get somewhat close to something, what its really doing is switching to the ultra wide lens and cropping in, thats also what it does for those super close macro shots as well. So just quickly tap that yellow dot if it comes up to turn it off if you're just trying to use the regular lens

All said, I think if video and night time zoom (LoL) are less important to you the Samsung has the better cameras in this generation. Though it's ridiculously expensive here in India. Also perhaps check the prices on the Sony Rx100 VII or a DSLR like say, Nikon D3500. How close have smartphones come to dedicated cameras? And are they still great value?

    Damn that was interesting. I kind of stopped keeping score because I noticed I had a tough time deciding between the two. In a lot of the images, I felt like there were parts of each image I preferred or found fault with. Outside of the obvious wins for each (daytime zoom/portrait lens/selfies/video quality), it’s a wash for me - there weren’t many slam-dunks. This reminds me a lot of pixel-peeping comparisons between a 5Diii and a D800 or something back in the day. Both obviously have their strengths and weaknesses, and you kind of just end up at a point where you shrug and say “both are good”. What’s truly shocking to me is how the Pixel is barely a part of the conversation anymore. I know it wasn’t compared here, but I already thought the S21 Ultra and 13 Pro did a much more consistent job than either of the Pixel 6 phones, and this comparison really emphasizes it.

    Great comparison. I'm just wondering why you didn't take any pictures with the zoom lens in daylight. That's one of the Samsung phones strong point. Also the iPhone is strong in daylight video. I think some daylight video should have been added there too. Just some friendly suggestions. Great video guys 👍🏾.

  • @ShawnLyman

    Excellent comparison. I just wish it was tallied for photo and video separately. And for an extreme, it would be great to see the breakout of 1x vs 1x sensors between the two. As the Samsung S series has much lower quality sensors for anything other than 1x.

      And at the end of the day, it's the photo not the camera. You can take a bad photo with a $50,000 Hastleblad camera and you can take a good photo with a phone. It's pretty obvious that Max is not a good photographer though.

    I honestly had it 16-14 in favor of the iphone. But either way works, I liked the video and the colors on the iphone but the detail I think on samsung is so much more amazing. Is it just me who don’t seem to mind the ray like flares too much but definitely something I would want to be fixed in the next iterations? I hope samsung really nail it and they would totally be better. The video though needs a lot more work though.

    Great video, but it feels like you did a disservice to the Samsung for video. You only took two video clips, but did one in 8k which is 24fps and then a 4k 30 fps shot, during dusk hours which should tell you the 8k was going to be worse because of the lighting situation. The other video was at night and it was a 1 to 1 comparison that I agree the iPhone was better, but you didn't show any other videos at all. I was at least expecting a portrait video to a cinematic video clip.

I noticed it works really great in pro mode where it auto adjusts WB, and it works great in 9 : 16. 108MP 3 : 4 isnt as good as it should be. But I think if I am able to take my tine I can take a better unedited photo with my phone than an iPhone 13 Pro Max.
