  • The World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1 has revealed many of the secrets regarding the Warcraft universe. From it's creation, to the rise and fall of civilizations. Light and Void eternally bound in conflict. In this video we dive into the origin of the cosmos, I hope you'll enjoy!
    "'I have seen worlds bathed in the Makers' flames. Their denizens fading without so much as a whimper. Entire planetary systems born and razed in the time that it takes your mortal hearts to beat once. Yet all throughout, my own heart, devoid of emotion... of empathy. I... have... felt... NOTHING! A million, million lives wasted. Had they all held within them your tenacity? Had they all loved life as you do? Perhaps it is your imperfection that which grants you free will. That allows you to persevere against all cosmically calculated odds. You prevailed where the Titans' own perfect creations have failed.'"

    Sargeras: Glad you could make it, Aman'thul.
    Aman'thul: Watch your tone with me, boy. You may be the enforcer, but I'm still your superior as a titan.
    Sargeras: As if I could forget. Listen, Aman'thul, there's something about the worlds you should know.
    Sargeras: Oh no. It's too late. These worlds have all been corrupted. They may look fine now, but it's a matter of time before they turn into tentacles.
    Aman'thul: What?
    Sargeras: This entire universe must be purged.
    Aman'thul: How can you even consider that? There's got to be some other way.
    Sargeras: Damn it, Aman'thul. As your future champion I order you to purge this world.
    Aman'thul: You are not my better yet, boy. Nor would I obey that command if you were!
    Sargeras: Then I must consider this an act of work ignorance.
    Aman'thul: Ignorance? Have you lost your mind, Sargeras?
    Sargeras: Have I? Lord Aman'thul, by my right of badassery and raw power of my sword, I hereby relieve you from your command and suspend your titans from service.
    Aggramar: Sargeras, you can't just...
    Sargeras: It's done! Those of you who have the will to save this universe, follow me. The rest of you... get out of my sight.
    Aman'thul: You've just crossed a terrible pantheon, Sargeras
    Sargeras: Aggramar?
    Aggramar: I'm sorry, Sargeras. I can't watch you do this.

The people of azeroth manage to cleanse the titan soul in azeroth of the void lords corruption without killing the world soul, most likely using the Naaru, and it becomes the last titan and we use it to fight Sargeras.

      Read or listen to baldurs gate lore. Blizz basically copied the lot

    • @mithrae4525
      @mithrae4525 3 года назад

      @@KatFisch There's some similarities, but I'm not sure it was directly copied. In Warcraft the demons were fought by the super-powerful Titan Sargeras, who is turned towards 'evil' plans either by the endless evil of the demons (earlier lore) or by the plans of the void lords (new lore), and takes over leadership of a bunch of demons as the Burning Legion. In Forgotten Realms, the demons were fought by many angels rather than a single super-powerful deity, and the angels became corrupted by the conflict and collectively became the devils/baatezu (lawful evil alignment), yet still at war with the demons/tanaari (chaotic evil); or at least that's one of several available sets of lore. The lore of both worlds were influenced by Judeo-Christian, Greek, Norse, Zoroastrian etc. mythology as well as more recent influences such as Tolkien, Lovecraft (esp. the Old Gods of Warcraft) and, notably in this case, apparently Nietszche: "Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster. When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." Seems just as likely that the Blizzard team came up with some similar ideas based on those shared earlier influences as that they were intimately familiar with D&D lore and simply copied it.
      Thanks for the opportunity to do some research on that :)
      Edit: Just read a few comments further down, the similarities between Sargeras fighting then taking over the demon hordes (in order to destroy all life) with Arthas fighting then taking over the scourge (albeit after purging Stratholme); the repetition makes the Nietszche theme seem a more likely inspiration than D&D, though arguably its meaning is blunted somewhat in Arthas' case.

    I like that, in learning about the plan to corrupt titans, Sargeras pretty much became the corrupted being the void lords were after. Fits in very well with the common Warcraft themes of leaders who go to great extremes to protect their ideals, eventually falling into madness and losing sight of their original goal (the original Orcs, Arthas, Garrosh, etc).

    • @Clarkiez96
      @Clarkiez96 8 лет назад +1

      Nope. Sargeras isn't corrupted, he's just lost all hope and wants to erase all life in the universe so it can't be corrupted, the void lords true motive appear, at this time, to be killing off the Pantheon which is something Sargeras isn't doing.

    • @Mcmos9000
      @Mcmos9000 8 лет назад

      How do we know the demon Sargeras interrogated wasn't lying, knowing that it would drive him down this path of fear? Deception is kind of their thing after all. Either way, even if he isn't literally a world soul corrupted by the void, he's definitely a titan turned from his original purpose toward one of total annihilation, in other words, a corrupted titan.

    • @Clarkiez96
      @Clarkiez96 8 лет назад

      +Mcmos9000 that's possible, but that still doesn't make him corrupt. In his eyes what the demon said is true, he's scared and he is doing what he is doing to stop the void lord's plans

  • @won1853

    The doomguard says they were "the titan's hounds," not "the titans' hounds." Singular, not plural. It means they were enslaved by Sargeras himself, so other members of the Pantheon were probably not aware of their existence. Except maybe Aggramar of course. So the quest doesn't contradict Chronicle.

  • @StarSpawn06
    @StarSpawn06 6 лет назад +1

    Of all the world's mythologies, I've just realised that the giants of old Chinese mythology most closely resemble WarCraft's Titans and titan-forged in stature and function.
    examples:
    - Pangu was a planet-sized giant responsible for creating this world. (and by "planet-sized" I mean the ancient texts really implied him to be about 15000 km tall when full-grown. For comparison the diameter of the Earth is about 12000km. )
    - Juling (literally "giant spirit") was a giant sent by Heaven to split a mountain so that it would not obstruct the flow of the Yellow River.
    - Another giant couple (each more than 400km tall) was sent to clear some more rivers, but they got lazy so Heaven punished them to stand naked until the Yellow River becomes clear.
    - The Thunder God was also a giant whose footprint caused a woman to become pregnant after she stepped into it (don't ask me how that works, haha) and later give birth to two important demigods.
    Those were the giant gods, responsible for shaping the world.
    Then there were a few other races of giants, for example:
    - in the Eastern Sea there was an island kingdom, Longbo, inhabited by giants, so tall that they could walk across a sea. One day one of them went fishing and ended up killing a few giant turtles responsible for carrying a few floating (and inhabited) islands, causing some of these islands to drift off, crash or sink. As punishment, Heaven drastically reduced the Longbo giants' territory and also shrank their bodies (to about 30 metres tall, still giant compared to humans).
    - Wanqu, another kingdom of giants (each about 23 metres tall) was said to have advanced technology (including flying submarines) and to have witnessed the creation and prehistory of the world. (this is a possible case of Ancient Astronauts)
    Although these giants were not explicitly described as shaping or protecting the world, the legends give the impression that they were present in the world for a purpose.
    Of course, besides the above, there were other legends about giants of even less cosmic significance, some benevolent, some savage.
    (Some were clearly just human tribes of slightly extraordinary stature.)

      Yeah, he kinda killed the Pantheon...

    • @singularitybound
      @singularitybound 8 лет назад

      No.. they just dont interfere for the same reason they disagreed that he should have not killed the titan being corrupted to save it. The are patient in an extremely hard way to grasp. He is no threat to them other then their choice to seed order.
      He did after all kill a fellow titan... They were probably right and combined could have saved it. The void is not currently that strong. But he is seeing the bigger picture so thats his crutch.
      If they could not have saved it then obviously they could have then decided what was the right coarse.
      And that is where his pointless act is made more invalid; there could be numerous unknown titans out there (and in fact are) already being corrupted. It was in fact pointless to kill it.
      Doing such probably was enough to push him off his balance. So hes deadlocked into follow through as some way of justifying what he had done.
      They wont harm other titans. In fact killing them would be a great advantage to the void; so he wouldn't.
      So if anything yeah we are obviously headed towards a Sargeras redemption not just illidan.
      Perhaps the Titans get hit and wake up to the real threat themselves.
      Which means the Old Gods arc is finally getting answered.
      Being that the void is finally coming or something.
      He will understand basically what Algalon came to understand through the people of Azeroth.
      With that said people keep saying he doesn't just slice Az in half because it has a rare kind of titan soul inside it. That doesn't make sense; knowing the Voids power he would def destroy it then.
      However unless he has some new idea of altering it himself, which is why he does not destroy Az either.
      ID even think that arc is possible too. Which probably means no redemption.
      Like the first titan he starts to go out and wake/train his own twisted Titans.

    • @umbraviventem
      @umbraviventem 7 лет назад +1

      Sargeras is not as powerful as he was when he destroyed his first world. Because of his infusion with the fel and the number of bodies he has had, his power is steadily decreasing. With every new avatar that he needs to house his titanic essence he loses power.
      Also, the Pantheon is technically not dead. If you read the chronicles it says that when they were destroyed by Sargeras their bodies and essences were ripped into millions of pieces and lost to the universe. They are alive, just in millions of pieces.

      anrexfk It is more about similarities in the story. You can easily see paralels with Sargeras killing the Titan and Arthas purging Stratholme, both acts in the name of what they think is right but their former friends are disgusted by and which lead them down a path that makes them the villain. Both of them were even convinced to their respective acts by dreadlords.

    I like the new version of the "corruption" of Sargaras because I'm tired of Blizzard pulling a "x is evil because they're just insane" bull crap storyline. Deathwing? Just insane. Kael'thas? Just insane. Illidan? Just insane. Probably others that I could list. Regardless of whether it's feasible or not, I'm tired of the same crappy excuse of making characters bad guys. It's nice to see a major villain finally doing something of his own agenda and volition rather than being a servant of some other force.

    • @ycn6365
      @ycn6365 8 лет назад +1

      Deathwing, Kael'thas, and Illidan all had their reasons of going insane though. I can't recall what though

    • @destinygalearies7382
      @destinygalearies7382 8 лет назад

      I don't know. Whatever the reason, it just feels rushed and weird to me. The last words out of Kael'thas' mouth when you kill him in TK were "For Quel'thalas," then suddenly the second you turn in his verdant sphere he's talking about how it was all a ploy for a new master, then in MGT, as someone else put it, he spends his last moments raving about Kil'Jaedan. No transition or explanation. I could consider that good lore when I was 9 but not now :P
      I get Deathwing because being corrupted by the old gods is kind of his thing. I guess I just don't like the explanation for irrational planning (fanmade or canon) to be because "He's crazy." Is it hard to have an insane villain that's still cold and rational and calculating?
      For Illidan, I can't make judgements because he's never been my favorite enough for me to analyze so much

    • @sophiejones7727
      @sophiejones7727 8 лет назад +6

      Deathwing: old gods. Kael: grief and pain because of what the Lich King did to his people. Illidan: anger at his people, and being trapped on another world for 10,000 years.

    • @arcbrush
      @arcbrush 8 лет назад

      So Kael'thas joins the legion, his sworn enemies and the enemies of his people, just because Illidan went insane? The blood elves would have fought to the last man against something like this, it makes no sense at all. Same with Illidan (pre WoW insanity which did make some sense).

    • @umbraviventem
      @umbraviventem 7 лет назад +2

      Of the ones you listed, the only one that is actually insane is Deathwing. Kael'Thalas was not insane, he was desperate. Illidan is not insane, everything he has done has been calculated to the next like 50 steps.

As for what to make next, I suggest you continue timelane wise from the book, maybe more to sargeras as how to continued.

So i think it would be awesome, if you could put things together in a single video concerning Ulduar and the titan keepers, and how they got corrupted (Of course by Yogg'saron i believe, but most of the titan keepers are not under the "curse of flesh", as far as i know / can guess).

    Go to the google play store book section and read the sample for this book. It takes you all the way up past the black empire, the elemental wars, the creation of the old gods prisons, and how the titan keepers helped protect the world-soul within Azeroth (who is the strongest the pantheon has ever seen, strong enough to destroy the void lords forever). Also, the actual void lords are unable to become physically manifest in the universe, so the in-game ones mentioned at the end of the video arent the real ones we learn about

    Not that this would be a good or bad idea, but I can imagine Bllizzard doing a Warcraft spin-off in which you play as Sargeras, pre-corruption, and you go around cleansing demons, fighting powerful Void Lords and Old Gods, etc. The gameplay could borrow heavily from God of War, and the story could focus upon the events covered in the Chronicle book, all the way up to his final descent into madness and Ascension to leadership of the Burning Legion. Such a game would flesh out the character of Sargeras for the fan base, as well as do some major world-building.

    Not only Sargeras and Arthas have things in common. Odyn's character arch is similar too. He disagreed with his peers in their attempt to protect and order so he decided to exile himself, raise the Halls of Valor and create his own army to do what in his eyes was the only option for real salvation

    Great video! Recently directed a friend of mine to your channel as well to check out some lore, since he didn't quite get what was happening in the Warcraft movie trailers so I told him lots and directed him here for more.
    As for the Chronicle book; Im thinking of getting that. I kinda love the stories Azeroth has to offer.

    Great as always, Nobbel! {Voice of a god} I hope you'll do either every single artifact weapon lore in this format ( I know it will take time :D ) or do a full in-depth story of Deathwing or Grommash :) Thanks for all the great hours!

    I think Dimensius could actually be a Void Lord, although perhaps not an all-powerful one. The way they've retconned the Void and the dialogue and story of a boss like Xhul'Horac seems to prove that Void-creatures manifesting in the real world need to be fed power in the form of magic or dark energies *constantly* in order to sustain themselves. Worse still, the more powerful the being is, the more energy it needs. Without that constant flow of energy, greater beings of the Void seem to simply fade out of existence, possibly dissipating into their core component, raw dark energy, or being pulled back into the void. This explain why Dimensius would make one of those Mana Forges his home after all.
    He could be a legit Void Lord that is not at his full potential because of a lack of sustenance, or he could be a lesser Void-being that grew immensely powerful through consumption of energy.
    I personally think the Void Lord's referred to as the masters of the Void dimension might be shapeless creatures that don't exist in the same way that we would expect them to. That is why they need to use the Old Gods as weapons - They can't directly interfere in the physical universe by themselves, instead using these massive, Lovecraft-inspired parasites to broadcast their presence and spread their influence in reality. Going off the Lovecraft theme, it would make sense for the masters of the Old Gods (The Outer Gods, if you will) to be beings that exist more as a concept than as living things. We already know that Old Gods exhibit this trait in that they can't really die as much as they aren't truly alive. Y'Shaarj was physically dead, yet still very much alive, etc.

      Also, there might not be any distinction between Void Lords and lesser Void-beings. Lesser Void beings might be like appendages of the Void Lords, who act like the hearts and brains of Void energy in general.
      So Dimensius could be a Void creature either important enough to have a Void Lord talking though it directly, or it has grown strong enough to develop a consciousness of its own. Either way, I like this approach, mostly because I don't like the idea that there could be Void beings acting independently of the Void Lords themselves.

      *****
      Well, we know that there are various Naaru, some more and some less powerful than others. There is no reason for us to assume that a Void Lord is not, in essence, the same as any other void creature, just much more powerful.

    So here's a crazy theory of mine: The spirit of Eonar is actually *drumroll* Elune. Eonar the titan of life and nature, who blessed the Titan-forged Freya with her powers as well as Alextraza through Freya. If Amun'thul's soul crashed into Ra then perhaps the Spirit of Eonar somehow found it's way to Azeroth as well? Considering the new lore it was Freya blessed by Eonar who created life AND the "Wild Gods" of nature (for example Goldrinn) who were her companions while she traveled Azeroth creating life.

      +Xxonfire1212xX I think it would make more sense for Elune to be a titan like Aman'thul who awoke by herself and then instead of searching for other titans went on an adventure of her own ultimately finding Azeroth.
      The night elves and the tauren (two races she is most often tied to + directly taught and influenced) both value life but they value balance much more, think of the nelf starting area quest to kill nightsabers in order to keep their population in check - the eonar that (according to the video) was especially affected by the death of the slumbering titan I assume would want all life protected with as little loss as possible IE she would have them find ways around killing at all or make it so they didn't have to.
      Also the tauren are more about the elements and balance with them rather than specifically life which isn't something I think the pantheon would be into considering their treatment of the elemental lords and how they nuked them away on planets they seeded to test for sleeping titans.

    the void can corrupt full grown titans, unless you would say sargeras wasnt corrupted. I donno food for thought. I love your videos Nobbel

    One complaint I had with the lore retcon is how much they explained about the Old Gods. They used to be the chaotic counterpart to the Titans. The whole mystery on their motives and origins is gone now. They've basically been downgraded to servants.
    I feel like part of the reason they made this retcon is so once we get rid of Sargeras and The Old Gods in future expansions, we'll have another big bad to go after.

    To everyone complimenting Nobbel's storytelling, he is reading all of this straight out of the book. This is not his own storytelling it is Blizzard's. All he does is add some pictures.

    The road to hell is lined with good intentions
    So it looks like Sargeras tried to save the universe by destroying it, enabling it to start over

    I like that Sargeras' motives are explained in Chronicles. Before, he was just a bad guy who thought the Pantheon's work was futile, and sought to undo it, but now he seems like a far more complex character. He realises the threat of the Void Lords and is willing to do anything to stop them.
    This also raises further questions about the Legion. Is he simply using them as a tool to destroy worlds? Or do they know Sargeras' reasons for this destruction, and see themselves as righteous crusaders? However, considering we know the Nathrezim are definitely evil, and that they're part of the Legion, it's not likely the rest of the Legion sees the bigger picture.
    When Velen talks about Sargeras' "promises of power" to Archimonde and Kil'Jaedan, what if Sargeras actually told them about the threat of the Void Lords? (This is a bit of a stretch, since it would mean Archie and KJ have more foresight than a goddamn prophet).
    AND since the Pantheon heard Sargeras' suggestion for dealing with the Void Lords but still disagree, do they still think that's what he believes now? Or do they think he's simply gone mad by the influence of the Nathrezim? (It would explain why WE thought that was the case until now, since we're their creations)
    I'd be open to the possibility that while Sargeras IS our enemy, he's not at all evil, and is trying to do whatever it takes to keep the universe from falling into chaos.

      +Liam Dalton Lol, no. It is absolutely lame and cheap. They are just copy pasting arthas story in sargeras and butchered the old gods by introducing those silly "Void Lords" (jesus they didn't even try to think of a different name than the warlock pets), who at no point seemed that menacing. He doesn't look anywhere complex at all, just lame and ridiciculous.
      His previous motivation was just fine, wanting to undo the work because he finds irder futile is marginally more original than arthas motivations 2.0
