I have this game, and actually quite enjoy it, and feel it gets a bad reputation. I think its because people try to play it like a classic "beat em up", when its actually more of a shooter.. Basically the shoulder cannon is your main attack. People think its useless cause you have to charge it, but its not, it does the most damage, and its your main weapon. See, when you fire the shoulder cannon, the Predator crouches down, and you see the cannon rise to his shoulder, then he fires. The Predator is invincible during this animation. Plus the cannon shot goes through all enemies in its path. So the strategy is to use your melee attacks, and especially your throwing weapons to knock aliens down, and or get them all on one side of you. Then right when you knock them down, fire off a quick cannon shot as they get back up, which will knock them down again. Once you get the timing down, you can just keep the aliens pinned down with the cannon. You can easily beat the game this way. Bosses are a bit different as each one takes a certain strategy to defeat, but they aren't that difficult. Believe me, im not saying this game is great by any means, just not nearly as bad as most think it is.

I was using it somewhat different, I'd first using a fighting game in close quarters, not always using this way however, but whenever possible, I use the spear as I always felt that it's more painful than the disk...
But yeah, I often still use the cannon, except when I'm facing the boss, I use the cannon with maximum firepower most of the time and whenever I can, but the final boss and the flying Alien are a pain to kill, not sure which one is the worst however...
Gotta note that when in trouble against those bosses and other baddies, a foot sweep can often save your life, especially in close combat..

I rented this back in the day. Realized that I could stand all the way to the left and just spammed the hell out of the shoulder lazer. Just waited for the Aliens to appear, fired, rinse, repeat. Beat the whole game just using it. Afterwards I was like well, so much for that and never played it again, wishing I had rented something else. Lol.
I miss the old school arcade games. Simpson's 4 player at the arcade was legendary

when we were kids we loved the AVP comics so my friend bought this and we were super disappointed. This game came out BEFORE the arcade game, so there wasnt confusion about it being the same game back then. To all the people saying kids bought this thinking it was the arcade game did not grow up during that era
dezm101 same here pretty much. It wasn’t long after me and my mates had read the comics that this came out. One friend got it and we all piled round to his to play it. Being only one player was very disappointing but Tbh I enjoyed it at the time. I can’t really disagree with anything said in this video now though. It’s a very average beat em up and there are lots of better options.
DUDE, oddly enough that sound from his laser blast sounds JUST like the proton pack attacks from the Ghost Busters game on Sega Genesis!
He punches exactly like Cody from Final Fight, and his shoulder cannon sounds like some innocuous SFX from Super Mario RPG. I feel bad for anyone who bought this thinking it was a port of the arcade game, which was the shit back in the day.

Back then I never knew there was a arcade game of it. I use to rent this all the time and enjoy it alot, until one time I was at a pizza place and saw the arcade and wanting to play it but couldn't until couple years later I did and loved it and wonder why the snes was different. Thanks Capcom for making the best game than activision did.

Although the Alien vs. Predator SNES game is repetitive, I never found it "boring" like you mentioned. For a 16 bit game, I think that it's good enough. I own it (complete) and really like it. I'm a huge Predator fan, and I enjoy playing this more than the NES Predator game!
AvP is one of a handful of great arcade games that, unfortunately, never got the console ports they deserved. X-Men, the Simpsons and WWF Wrestlefest are three other glaring missed opportunities.
I'm huge fan of Alien(s) and Predator. It has always burned my ass that AvP never got ported to home consoles. The X-Men and Simpson's games where fun to, and there is a whole list of games that have remained arcade only for some reason. Another arcade game that I would have like to see a port of is the rail gun shooter Alien 3 The Gun. Thank God for MAME!
I thought X-men got an Xbox live release, the WWF got a quasi remake for mobile devices *shudder* but a release today might be a little tricky because of the whole trademarks of the wrestlers mainly Hogan and Ultimate Warrior.

Hah, I own this game, I got it with my SNES many years ago. And yeah, it's repetitive. The only truly good thing about this game is music and graphics.
This game's OST is AMAZING. There's also a great remix of the boss theme here on youtube.

Ever since I got this cart back a few years ago I've been playing it a lot of times, it's not as bad as some people say, I knew about it since around 1994...
At least I know I like it and still enjoy it to the max...
My game genre has been mainly fighting games all along, but I also enjoy shooting games such as Contra III the Alien Wars, or Sunset Rider...

I remember i used to just play the game for the awesome music it was pretty cool, i actually had fun playing this though when i was a kid i rented it from blockbuster one weekend.
I want a console port of the arcade Alien vs Predator too!!! I had alot of fun playing that game for hours back in the day.It is one of the few arcade games I actually beat.

The only positive thing i can think for this game is that they used the Predator war cry on the Mega Crush move. Unlike the Kickass Arcade AVP

I...dunno I'm going to respectfully disagree. Good music from the same composers who did imperium...gameplay wise it's not much different from Final Fight. The characters aren't standing out or anything but it's totally playable. Not a bad game, just average. But that's just my opinion.
Even the 1st Final Fight SNES port has more moves and much better sound design than this game
SNES drunk oh totally agree, the music is way better in FF SNES. And while I guess there's more moves if you factor in the different directional presses. But I personally had fun with AVP. However, it's super disappointing we never got the Capcom beat em up, which as you said is superior.
Dongled I agree man this game isn't that bad.
I remember it being outright bad compared to Streets of Rage/King of Dragons/Final Fight. Hell even the middling comic book beatem'ups were way better (Captain America, Maximum Carnage, Death of Superman). Even if it was decent, an average beat'emup from 1993 is basically unplayable garbage now.

OK, I just learned something today. I really didn't know this came out before the arcade game. That actually changes my whole view of it. Still doesn't look good, but at least I can't be annoyed at it for being a terrible port of an awesome arcade game anymore.

I like this game, i had alot of fun with it as a kid.
I remember renting this game as a kid. It was playable enough, if very repetitive and unremarkable. The music, however, is great and worth listening to.
I will say though...I'd much rather play this game than The Tick on SNES. ~Shudder~

I think this game is really good. Good to know about the Japanese version, I’ll check it out too. I’d like to see Aliens arcade on home consoles too. Also I think it is strange because in this game, the Alien cannot see a cloaked Predator but in other AVP games, the Aliens can see them cloaked. So what in accurate in the Aliens franchise? I think I’ll need to research that 😆

It's pretty funny how much your blocked sinus affects the bass. Sometimes my TV subwoofer is blaring, sometimes it's all top-end noise from the other speakers, even in the same sentence or word hehe

The down jump animation is the same as the up jump animation. Thats all you need to know.

Beat it when i was a kid. The bosses were cool if you are an Alien fan but the game gets old fast. Would be cool to see modern version with nicer graphics and more variety. A lot of retro games coming out these days the beat em up needs more games.

My parents got me this for Christmas back in the day. The arcade game was in our local movie theater and it was AMAZING. I think they might have hoped the SNES version might be similar. Turns out was a steaming, repetitive pile of boredom. And shit.
I traded this game and $40 back in the day for Final Fantasy 3.

Pretty sure that this was the first game that ever disappointed me. I vividly remember being like 5 and losing it when I saw the box on the shelf and snatched it without even looking at the back. I played it for about 20 minutes, turned my snes off and left it in there unplayed until I had to take it back at the end of the weekend.
It's okay. My biggest nitpick is how repetitive it is. Aside from boss fights, you have *two* types of enemy adversaries with varying strength and endurance. They could've mixed it up a little. If you're gonna have a boss xenomorph which jumps out of the water and one which flies, why not have smaller versions of those characters to add a little variety to the rest of the game?
This game might be quite good with a ROM hack … not least of all just to improve the shoulder cannon sound-effect

knowing Xardion as well as Doan having played this game, it's like the developers didn't quite understand games, or it sounded good on paper but not in practice.

I lucked out when I was about to rent the game, the clerk was like "this isn't the arcade game" and he put it on SNES that was behind the counter. The moment of truth came and I got to play the first level it sure as hell wasn't it was so boring. So very lucky that I didn't rent it, ended up getting something else.
It would be cool if someone that knows how to do Snes mod, to create a game from the sketch, but using the sprites and backgrounds of this game. But adding a 2 player cooperative and better gameplay, more agile and chaotic. And that could be played on real Snes with an Everdrive. I always want to see some bad games that could be good, being rescued by people who know better this days.

The AVP arcade game was amazing. I especially loved all the Street Fighter-like special moves. But l rented AVP for SNES and was blown away by how bad it was. What a letdown. I was entertained and excited for about 10 minutes.
